Section 1 — General Information Generac GT S “W” T ype T ransfer Switch 1.1 I NTRODUCTION This manual has been prepared especially for the purpose of familiarizing personnel with the design, application, installation, operation and servicing of the applicable equipment.
Generac ® Pow er Systems, Inc. 3 2.1 I NTRODUCTION T O I NST ALLA TION This equipment has been wired and tested at the fac- tory . Installing the switch includes the following pro- cedures: • Mounting the enclosure. • Connecting utility and generator power source leads.
4 Generac ® Pow er Systems, Inc. Solderless, screw-type terminal lugs are standard. The conductor size range is as follows: Conductor sizes must be adequate to handle the max- imum current to which they will be subjected; based on the 75°C column of tables, charts, etc.

A competent, qualified electrician should inspect it. The installation should comply strictly with all appli- cable codes, standards, and r egulations.
6 Generac ® Pow er Systems, Inc. 3. When certain that UTILITY supply voltage is cor- rect and compatible with transfer switch ratings, turn OFF the UTILITY supply to the transfer switch. 4. On the generator panel, set the A UTO - OFF - MANU AL switch to MANU AL position.
Generac ® Pow er Systems, Inc. 7 Failure to do so may r esult in damage to cer- tain rotary equipment. 8. Set the generator’s main circuit breaker (CB1) to its OFF or OPEN position. 9. Set the Auto/Off/Manual switch to the OFF posi- tion to shut down the generator .
