17 Installing the Phone Installing the Handset Batter y NO TE: You must connect the handset battery before use. CA UTION: T o reduce the risk of fire or personal injury, use only the Thomson Inc. approv ed model 5-2721 Nickel-metal Hydride battery (Ni-MH), which is compatible with this unit .
18 4. Insert the battery pack . 5. Close the battery compar tment by pushing the door up until it snaps into place. Base Station 1. Choose an ar ea near an electrical outlet and a telephone wall jack (RJ11C), and place your cor dless telephone on a level surface, such as a desktop or tabletop, or y ou may mount it on the wall.
19 4. Place the handset in the base cradle. The charge/in use indicator turns on, verifying the battery is char ging. 5. Allow the phone to char ge for 16 hours prior to first use. If you don’t pr operly charge the phone, battery performance is compromised.
20 Setting the Voice Pr ompt Language The default voice pr ompt language is English. T o change the answering system’s voice prompt language, • Press the language button on top of base to change to the FRENCH voice pr ompt . The unit announces “ OPTION FRANCAISE “ and Fr shows in the message counter .

Programming Functions The system uses a menu structure to give y ou access to all of the built-in featur es. Y ou may program the following items in main menu: Room Monitor and Handset Setup.

Press mute/pr ogram button to select VIP melody feature and then display VIP 1 recor d. - I f VIP1 does NO T contain any specific number/records, it will display EMPT Y .

32 4. Press the mute/pr ogram button to confirm your selection. NO TE: If both AUDIO PREDIAL and KEY TONE ar e set to on, AUDIO PREDIAL will take the priority in dialing mode. Message Alert (for answering syst em) This feature sets y our answering system to give an alert tone every 10 seconds when there ar e new messages.

34 3. Use the touch-tone pad to enter your new 3-digit security code. The default setting is 123 . 4. Press the mute/pr ogram button to confirm. Y ou will hear a confirmation tone and the new security code shows in the display. NO TE: If you make a mistake, use the delete button t o delete the security code and begin again.

38 Global De-registration If one or more handsets becomes lost , y ou should de- register all handsets to ensur e proper system operation. W ARNING: It is not recommended that a handset be de-register.

46 Paging fr om the Base/Group P age Use the base-only to page all register ed handsets at the same time. 1. Press the page button on the base. All handsets beep for two minutes, and P AGING FROM BASE shows on each handset’s display.
47 Volume Boost During a conversation, you may incr ease the volume by pressing the V olume Boost button on the side of the handset , A UDIO BOOST will show in display. The volume will r eturn to its original setting when you hang up the phone or if y ou press the V ol Boost button again during conversation.

NO TE: If the receiving handset does not answer within two minutes, the intercom call is automatically canceled. The originating handset displays NO ANSWER . 5. When finished, press the exit button or int button on either handset to deactivate the inter com.
49 Advanced Intercom F eatures Receiving an Incoming Call During an Intercom Call If you r eceive a telephone call during an inter com call, the intercom call is immediately terminated and both handsets ring. Either handset user may press the T ALK/CALL BACK button to answer the call.
50 2. When finished, pr ess the exit button or int button to end the intercom call, r eturn to the talk mode, and resume your original telephone conversation. Three-W ay Calling 1. During an external call, pr ess the int button. LINE ON HOLD EX TENSION? shows in the display.
51 T ransferring External Calls t o Other Handsets During an external call, you may transfer the external call to another handset . 1. Pr ess the int button on the originating handset to put an external call on hold, and then page the receiving handset .
52 Caller ID (CID) IMP OR T ANT : In order to use this unit’s Caller ID features, y ou must subscribe to either the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service or Call Waiting Caller ID Service. To know who is calling while you ar e on the phone, you must subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID Ser vice.
53 • When you hear the call w aiting beep in the handset receiv er , press the flash/answer er button to put the current call on hold and answ er the incoming call.
54 Reviewing CID R ecords As calls are r eceived and stored, the display is updated to let you know how many calls have been r eceived. To scr oll CID recor ds: 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode). 2. Press the caller ID-volume ( 6 ) button to r eview the newest CID r ecord.

63 Answering Syst em Operation This section discusses the buttons and features on the answering system. Message Counter Indicat or The message counter gives you a numeric display of how many messages you have. The new message indicator flashes to indicate you have new messages.

73 Display Messages The following messages shows the status of the phone, provides Caller ID information, or helps y ou set up and use your phone. BLOCKED NUMBER Indicates the person is calling from a number which is blocked fr om transmission. CHARGING.
74 END OF LIST Indicates that there is no additional information in CID memory. ENTER NAME Prompt telling y ou to enter a name in one of the 50 memory locations. ENTER TEL NUMBR Pr ompt telling you to enter a telephone number in one of the 50 memory locations.
75 LOW BA T TERY Indicates the battery needs to be charged. NEW VOICE MAIL Indicates voice mail has not been retriev ed from service provider .
