11 Chapter 2: Getting Star ted Charging the bat ter y Fully charge t he battery to maximize playing time. However , it is not necessary to fully charge o r complete ly discharge the battery each time. Y ou can charge the battery by connec ting the jukebox either to the AC power adapter (fa s test) o r to a USB port o n the computer .
12 T o charge t he battery: 1 Connect the USB c ombo cable to the AC power adapter , then plug the p ower ad apter in to an AC po wer o utle t. - OR - Connect the USB combo cable to th e c omputer .
13 2 Plug the combo cable i nto the jukebox. Make sure t h at the top of the plug (the si de with the arr ows) is facing the same way as the front of the jukebo x.
14 3 If you are chargin g your jukebox from the computer’ s USB cable, turn y o u r j u k e b o x o f f . I f y o u r j u k e b o x i s o n , i t c a n n o t c h a r g e f r o m t h e computer’ s USB cable. If the jukebox is on, the power cord icon appe ars in the upper right corner of the d isplay .
15 T urning on your jukebo x T o turn on your jukebox: ■ Press the power button. The jukebox turn s on, and the Main Menu appears after a few seconds. T o turn off yo ur jukebox: ■ Press and hold the powe r button until the displa y turns off (about two seconds).
16 Plugging in the headphones Y o u c a n p l u g h e a d p h o n e s a n d s p e a k e r s i n t o y o u r j u k e b o x . T o plug in he adphones or speaker s: ■ Plug the headphone or speaker plug into the headphone jack on the top o f your ju kebo x.

19 Loc king control b ut tons Y ou can lock your ju kebox so its buttons ar e no t acci d entall y p ressed. T o lock all ju kebox buttons: ■ Move the contro l lock to the Locked position (where red is showin g). When the buttons are loc ked, a lock icon appears on the s cr een.

21 Pre-load ed music For your immediate listening enjoyment, your jukebox comes pre-loaded with player-exclusi ve content from three artists, Renato Grinberg, Mac Lopez, and Lee J ohnson.

27 Viewing the No w Playing screen After moving within menus, you can q u ickl y return to the Now P laying screen from the Main Menu . T o return to the Now Playing screen: 1 Fro m the Main Menu , press to o pen the options menu. 2 Press o r to highligh t No w Playi ng , then press to open the Now Playi ng screen.
28 Adjusting volume Y ou can adjust volu me at any time, regardless of the current menu o r screen. T o adjust volume: 1 Press the + side (top) of th e volume button to increase vo lume, and press the – side (bottom) to decrease volume.

31 Disabling e xpired musi c messages If you use a music service wher e music can be p layed for a l imit ed amount of time ( such as Napster T o Go), the mu sic will eventually bec ome disabled on your jukebox.
32 Viewing the musi c visual ization While music is playing, you can choose to display a visualizatio n of the sound. The visualization is similar to visualizations you may see in W indows Media Player on your co mp uter . T o view the mu sic visualiz ation: 1 In the Now Play ing screen, press to open the options menu.
33 Creating playlists Y ou can create pl aylists on the jukebox, or you can create them in W indows M e d i a P l a y e r a n d c o p y t h e m t o y o u r j u k e b o x b y s y n c i n g y o u r j u k e b o x w i t h the computer . Creating a jukebo x playlist T o create a pla ylist on the jukebox: 1 On your jukebox, sel ect a song and play it.
34 Creating a Windows Media Pla yer play list T o create a playlist in Wi ndows Med ia Player: 1 In W indows Media Player on your computer , click t h e Libr ar y tab, then click and d r ag the files to add t o your playlist from the libr ar y list to the play list w ind ow on the ri ght.
35 Editin g playlists Adding a t rac k or album to a pla ylist T o add to a playlist: 1 On your jukebox , press or to highlight Mu sic , then press to open the Music menu. 2 Highlight Playlists , Artists , Albums , Genres , All Music , o r Now Pla ying , then press to open the submenu.
36 3 Highlight the pl aylist containing the track you want to delete , then press . 4 Highlight t he track you want to delete, then press to open the options m enu. 5 Highlight Delete Song , then press . The prompt “Remove song from playlist?” appears.
37 Gettin g more musi c Instal ling the so ftware T o copy music and di gital photo fi les to your jukebo x from your computer , you must first install Windows Me dia Player 10 on your computer .
38 ■ T o create digital mu sic files, you ne ed to either copy ( rip ) them fro m a CD or buy th em fr om an onl ine dig ital music servic e, such as Napster . For more information, see “Rippin g music files” on page 38 or “Buyin g digital music files” o n pag e 41.
39 3 Click the Rip t a b . T h e l i s t o f t r a c k s o n y o u r m u s i c C D a p p ea r s . I f y o u r computer is connected to the Internet, the album an d tracks are listed by name. 4 Right-clic k the title bar , click To o l s , then click Options .
40 6 Click the Format box, click MP3 or WMA , then click OK . Y ou only ha ve to s el ect th e f orm at o nc e, s o t he n ex t ti me you ri p mu si c, yo u do not need to perf orm this step.
41 7 Click the c h eck box next t o each track you want to copy , then cli c k Rip Music . The tracks are copied to your computer and are added to your Media Player Library . Buying digita l m usic f iles Y o u can buy digital music from severa l online music services.
42 Napster Wit h the Napster T o Go™ on line music service, you can transfer an u n l i m i t e d a m o u n t o f m u s i c t o y o u r j u k e b ox f o r a l o w m o n t h l y f r e e . F i l l your player , listen to all the music, then fill it up again fro m your choice of over a mill ion tracks.
43 3 T yp e your member name, a password, and your e-mail ad dress, then type your Promo Code i n the space pr ovided. 4 Click to select the Review T erms & Conditions check box, then click Next Step . 5 T ype your billing info rmation, then click Subm it .
44 6 T ype the member name and password you cho se, then click Sign In . 7 Find so me music you wo uld like to download. By clicking the Search boxes in th e upper righ t corner , you can sear ch by artist, trac k, or album. Y o u c an also c lick Br owse to access Napster's browse features.
45 9 Connect your jukebox to your computer . Y ou are prompted to set up h ow yo u wan t to s ync yo ur pl ayer . ■ If you sel ect Automatic , a l l o f y o u r t r a c k s w i l l s y n c t o y o u r jukebox automatically each time you connect your ju kebo x to the computer .
46 T o prepare file s for syncing with your jukebox: 1 Click Start , All Pr ograms , Accessories , Entertainment , then cl ick Windo ws Media Pla yer .
47 4 In the Edit Playlist d i a l o g b o x , r i g h t - c l i c k t h e a l b u m o r a r t i s t y o u w a n t to add to the Sync List , then click Add t o Playlist . - OR - Click the al b u m to open its list of tr ac k s, then click each track you want to add to the Sync List.
48 Moving files to your jukebo x T o move files to your jukebox: 1 Click Start , All Pr ograms , Accessories , Entertainment , then cl ick Windo ws Media Pla yer . W i ndows Media Player opens. 2 Click the Sync tab. 3 Tu r n o n y o u r j u k e b o x .
49 4 Plug the USB combo cable into the jukebox. The power adapter does not need to be plugged int o the combo ca ble..
50 5 Plug the other end o f the combo c able into a USB port on your computer . Y our computer recogniz es the attached player , and “Connect ed” appears on the jukebox displ ay . On your c omputer , the Device Setup dialog box opens. 6 Click Manua l , then click Finish .
51 7 Click the Sync tab, then click Start Sync . The files are moved to your jukebox. 8 Click the Safel y R emove Har dware ico n on the Window s taskbar , then click Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device . The prompt “Safe T o Remove Ha rdware” appe ars.

53 Chapter 4: Vie w ing Photos Vie wing a photo T o view photos: 1 Tu r n o n y o u r j u k e b o x . T h e Main Me nu opens. 2 Highlight Pi ctures , then press to open the Pictures menu. 3 Highlight a p hoto folder , then press to open the folder . 4 Highlight a p hoto, then press to view the photo.
54 Copying photos to y our jukebo x Copying photos from y our computer Y ou can transfer any digital i m age from your computer to yo ur jukebox. T o copy phot os from your computer t o your jukebox: 1 T urn on your jukebox, t hen connect it to the computer usi ng the USB combo cable.
55 Copying photos from y our digital camera Y o u c a n a l s o t r a n s f e r p h o t o s d i r e c t l y f r o m y o u r c a m e r a t o y o u r j u k e b o x . This feat ure is convenient f or empt ying your camera’ s memory card while y o u h a v e n o a c c e s s t o a c o m p u t e r f o r p e r m a n e n t s t o r a g e .
56 2 T urn your jukebox o n, then connect t he USB cable to yo ur jukebo x. Y our jukebox detects the camera and asks to upload all files..
57 3 Press to copy all files to your juk ebox. Copying may take several minutes. 4 After the copying is complete, unplug your jukebox and camera f rom the USB cable. After verifying th at the files have been copied to your jukebox, you can erase them from yo ur camera.
58 Copying photos from y our card reader or flash drive Y ou can transfer p hotos from a USB memo ry card reader or USB flash drive by connecting the r eader’ s USB cable or the flash drive itself to yo u r jukebox’ s USB camera i nterface cable.
59 5 After the c o pying i s c omplete, unplug your jukebox and memory device from t he USB cable. After verifying th at the files have been copied to your jukebox, you can erase them from your memory device.
60 Organizing photos Creating a photo folder T o create a ph oto folder: 1 Fro m the Main Menu , hi ghlight Pictures , then press to open the Pictures menu. 2 Press to open the options menu, hig hlight New Folder , th en press . The New Folder menu opens.

64 If you sel ected <Name Slideshow> , the Se lect first character menu opens . 8 Highlight t h e fir s t character of your slideshow name, then pr ess . Continue s electing characters unti l the naming is complet e, then press . The new slideshow is created.

67 Creating tex t no tes Y ou can even use your jukebox as a reference pad by saving text as a n image. This example uses Microsof t Paint, but you can u se any image editing softwar e.
68 T o c reate a text note: 1 Click Start , All Pr ograms , Accessories , then click Pain t . Micr osoft Paint opens. 2 Click the square at the lower-right c orner of the drawing area, then drag it until the status bar shows the draw ing area dimensions of 128x110.

73 Chapter 6: Ma intenance and T roub l eshooting This chapter describes h ow to solve common issues you m ay experience with your ju kebox. T roub l eshooting Buttons do not w or k Make sure that the control loc k is not in the LOCK position. Ch eck for a lock icon on the screen.
74 Firmware update fails If t he firmware update uti lity is unable to upda te yo ur jukebo x firmware: 1 T urn on your jukeb ox and co nnect it to your c omputer usi ng the USB combo cable. 2 Click Star t , All Programs , Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox , then click Firmware Utility .
75 4 Y ou ca n also click: ■ Recover . Use this when files on the jukebox s eem to disappear , although you ha ve not deleted them. The Rec o ver option attempts to fix the database on the jukebox s o that files wi ll no longer d isap pear . ■ Format (Disk Mainten ance) .
76 Jukebo x does not appear in Windows Media Play e r ■ Make sure that you have Windows Media P layer version 10 in stalled. Y our co mputer must have Servic e Pack 1 installed for Windows Media P layer 10 to work correctly .

78 Mainta ining your jukebox Cleaning ■ Do not drop your jukebox o r leave it under heavy o bjec ts. ■ Do not allo w liquid s to come into c ontact with your jukebo x.
79 Repl acing the batt ery For extend ed listening t ime without recharging, yo u can ins tall a spare battery . W ith an extra batte r y or two, you can increase the jukebox play time from 8-1 0 hours to 1 6-20 or 24-30 ho urs. T o buy addition al batteries, see ww w .
80 3 Press the battery to ward the far side of the jukebo x , then li ft the batt er y out o f the j ukeb ox. 4 Insert the r ep lacement battery into t he battery bay , making su re the contacts o n the battery align wit h the contacts in the battery bay .
81 Maintaining batt ery life Over time, you r battery may take m uch longer to cha r ge, and it may hold that charge for a sho rter time. If this happens wi th your jukebox’ s batter y , you should buy a replacement from www .gateway .com/p hotojukeboxextras .
82 5 Open the folder you saved the firmware update to, then doub le-click the firmware update fi le. The jukebox firmware utility op ens. 6 Click Upda te . The program update s your jukeb ox firmwar e. 7 After the update i s finished, disconnect the jukebox from the computer .
