1 Getting Started Remove or Disable Conflicting Applications Internet sharing software and PC based firew all applicati ons typically interfere with the 2Wire gatew a y , and should be removed or disabled before you install the gate wa y . The 2Wire gatew ay pro vides the same features as the products listed below .
2 Connect the First Computer to the Gateway Congratulations on the purchase of your 2Wire gatew a y . T o install your gatewa y and configure your networ k, follow these steps.
Connect the Fir st Computer to the Gatew ay 3 T o install the DS L filter : 1. Locate the phone jack where you wa nt to connect your 2Wire gatewa y . 2.

Beneath the serial number is a ten-digit number which is used as the encr yption ke y .

Connect the Fir st Computer to the Gatew ay 8 Install the 2Wire Gatew a y USB Driver - Windows 1. P ower on your computer and place the 2 Wire CD in your computer’ s CD-ROM drive. 2. If the Add Hard ware Wizard displa ys, follow the on -screen instructions.
9 Run the 2Wire Setup Wizard Windows XP/2K/ME/98SE 1. Inser t the 2Wire CD and follow the on-screen inst ructions. If the 2Wire Setup Wizard does not automatically star t: − Double-click the My Computer icon located on the desktop. − Double-click the icon that corresponds to your CD-ROM drive.
10 Add Computers to the Network After your first computer is connected to the 2Wire gatewa y and your Inter net connection has been established, you can connect other computers to the network. Use any of the followin g methods to connect additional computers to your networ k.

14 Diagnostics Understanding Broadband Redirect Messages If the 2Wire gatew ay detects a connection problem or an intermittent ser vice error , it generates an error or aler t (Broadband Redirect Message) and displa ys the message within your W eb browser .
Diagnostics 15 No DSL Connection - Unable to T rain When setting up a DSL broadband network, all active phone devices must ha ve a phone line filter installed. Without the filter , the DSL connection will be unstable, resulting in a poor or no DSL connection.
Diagnostics 16 Broadband Link is Currently Not Available - DSL Connection Issue This error message is displayed bec ause the gatewa y was unable to establish a broadband network connection. Check to ensure that all cables are correctly connected, and the cable end securely attached to the por t.
Diagnostics 17 Router Behind Router Detected If the gatew a y detects the presence of a third-par ty r outer , the Router Behind Router error page displays. If a third-par ty router is connected to the 2Wire gatew a y , networ k instability can result because both devices are tr ying to manage private IPs via NA T .
Diagnostics 18 Understanding the Indicator Lights The 2Wire gatew ay ha s numerous indicator lights that can be used to diagnose installation and connection problems. The following table describes how to interpret the indicator lights. Pow e r Light Operating State OFF The gatew a y is not getting power .
Diagnostics 19 DSL Light Operating State OFF The gatew a y is powered off or boo ting up. Blinking green (slow) The gatewa y is attempting to establish a connection to your broadband ser vice(s). Blinking green (fast) The gatew ay has been unable to connect to the DSL signal for more than three minutes.
