DSC uses marine VHF radio and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies to transmit and receive location information.

As you pan past the edge of the current map display , the screen actively scrolls forward to provide continuous map coverage.

The 19 Menu tabs are divided into categories by function. The Main Menu is available from any page in the system, and is accessed by pressing MENU twice.
40 GPSMAP 188/188C Sounder Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > GPS T AB The progress of satellite acquisition is shown in three stages: • No signal strength bars —the receiver is looking for the satellites indicated. • Light signal strength bars —the receiver has found the satellite(s) and is collecting data.
GPSMAP 188/188C Sounder Owner ’s Manual 41 M AIN M ENU > GPS T AB Ocean, in a geo-stationary orbit over the equator . Effective use of the W AAS satellite signal can be limited by your geographic location in relation to those satellites, now in developmental service.

A solid vertical line (with the current time box at the top) indicates the time of day when using current date and intersects the tide graph to show their relationship.

Y ou can select from Auto Mag V ar , T rue, Grid, and User Mag V ar . Auto Mag V ar provides magnetic north heading references that are automatically determined from your current location.

GPSMAP 188/188C Sounder Owner ’s Manual 79 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE Using the Adjustment Menu The Adjustment menu gives you direct access to the settings and features most commonly used on the Sonar Page. The option selected currently appears in the upper left of the display .
80 GPSMAP 188/188C Sounder Owner ’s Manual U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE Range Adjustment Zoom Adjustment Range —sets the display depth range used for viewing. The unit can be set to automatically track the bottom or set to a user - specified depth range.
GPSMAP 188/188C Sounder Owner ’s Manual 81 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE • Btm (Bottom) Split —shows two reduced pictures; the right at the original depth scale and the left showing sonar returns from the bottom up. All target depths read as a distance from the bottom.
