1-6 ZOOM The “single picture” (high or low frequency) appears on the right 1/2 of the screen and the zoom picture on the left 1/2. The zoom picture may be s elected among BOTTOM LOCK, BOTTOM ZOOM, MARKER ZOOM, DISCRI M (discrimination) 1/2 and DISCRIM (discrimination) 1/3.
1-7 BOTT OM ZOOM The bottom zoom display show s the zoomed bottom (automatically tracked) on the left 1/2 of the screen. When the bottom depth increases, th e display shifts to keep the bottom echo at the lo wer part of t h e sc re e n. 1-8 DISCRIM 1/2 The discrim(ination) 1/2 screen show s the single picture on the right 1/2 of the screen and the bottom lock display and discriminator display occupy the left 1/2 of the scr een. The discriminator display shows the bottom as a straight line, which is useful for determining bottom hardness.
1-9 USER 1, 2 The display set at the user 1 (user 2 ) menu appears. Default setting is as follows. 1-1 1 1.5 Selecting Bas ic Range The basic range may be selected with the [RANGE] switch from the eight ranges listed below . (The default unit of depth measurement is feet.) These eight ranges may b e programmed as des ir e d. For de tai l s, s ee pag e 3- 7.
1-12 1.6 Shif ting th e Basic Ran ge The [-] and [+] keys determine the start depth o f the picture. S tart depth (shift) is shown at the top of the screen. The shift value se tting is reflected on all other range by default. This function is not available when AU TO SHIFT is ON in DISP menu.
1-13 1.7 A djusting Gain The [GAIN] con trol adjusts the sensitiv ity of the re ceiver . Adjust it so ex cessive noise just disappears from the scr een. 1-14 1.9 Marker Line The [MARKER/TLL] key inscribes a vertical line when pressed. It may be used to denote a fish school or other important echo. At the same moment the key is pressed lati tude and longitude position may be output to connected navigation plotter and marked on i ts screen.
1-15 1.10 Adjusting Clutter W hen blue dots appear over the entire screen (ma inly caused by dirty water), use the clutter function to elim inate them. 1. Rot ate th e [FU NC TION] sw itch to select CLU TTER . The clutter menu a pp ears. Change echo color assignment.

1-18 1.12 Eliminating W eak Echoes Dirty water or reflections from plankton may be pa inted on the display in green or light-blue. These weak echoes may be erased with the si gnal level function. 1. Rotat e the [FUNCTIO N] switch to select SIG LEVEL. The SIGN AL LEV E L menu appears.

1-21 1.14 A-Scope Display The A-scope picture displays echoes at each transmission with amplitudes and colors proportional to their intensities on the right 1/4 of the screen. This feature is useful for close observation of small f ish and fish near the bottom,.
1-22 1.15 Suppressing Interference Interference from other acoustic equipment operating nearby or o ther electronic equipment on your boat may show itself on the display as shown in the figure below . Y ou may suppress these type s of in ter ference w ith th e no ise li mite r .

The automatic shift function automatically locates the bottom trace on the low er half of the screen; the range w indow jumps up w here the bottom trace rises over the center o f the screen and jump s dow n when it reaches the bottom o f the screen.

4-2 4.2 Zero Line The zero line repr esents the transduc er’s posi ti on. I t moves off the scr een w hen a shi fted range is us ed, or i s show n at draft depth when shi p’ s dr aft is entered.
4-3 Bottom n ature The nature of the bottom is known from th e intensity and length o f the bottom tail. Generally , when observing the bottom nature, the low er sounding frequency is used, the pulselength is set to long, and the gain setting is not disturbed.
4-4 Fish school dens ity If two fish scools appear with the sa me color at dif ferent depths, the one in deeper w ater is denser because the ultrasonic w ave attenuates as it propagates and the fish school in deep water tends to be displayed in a w eaker color .
4-5 Surface noise W hen the sea is r ough or the s hip pass es over a wake, s urface nois e may appear at the top of the scr een. I t can be suppr ess ed wi th the CLU TTER function.
