ii INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the fi- 5950 Duplex Color Scanner. This document describes how to use fi-5950 and basic operation methods. Before you start u sing fi-5950 be sure to thoroughly read this manual to ensure correct use.

vi Do not install the scanner in the following locations which are subject to high temperature, humidity , le ss ventilati on, or dust. If placed in an area subject to high temperature, the cover may become overheated and de formed, causing the scanner to become hot, resulting in a fire.
vii When installing the scanner on a table, make sure that the table is flat and level. Place the scanner so that none of its part s e xtend beyond the edge of the table, otherwise it may fall or collapse and cause injurie s. Install the scanner away from strong magnetic fields and other sour ces of electronic noise.
1 Chapter1 PREP ARING THE SCANNER 1.1 Checking the Contents of the Scanner Package When you unpack the scanner package, make sure that the package contains all the pa rts on the list included in the package. If any parts are missing or defectiv e, contact your scan- ner dealer or an authorized FUJITSU scanner service provider.
2 ■ Removable Parts 1.3 Operator Panel The operator panel is locate d on the rig ht side of the scanner. The panel consists of a Function Number Dis- play, buttons and a LED.
3 ■ Indications on the Function Number Display The following shows the in dications on the Function Number Display. Use this button to start linked applica- tion. When this button is pressed during scanning operation, the scanning is cancelled (*About the settings, refer to the "fi- 5950 Operator’s Guid e" on the Setup DVD-ROM).
4 Chapter2 INST ALLA TION OF THE SCANNER 2.1 Installing the Scanner 1. Place the scanner at its installation site. For details on the scanner's dimensions and required installation space , refer to the fi-5950 Operator’s Guide, chapte r "10.
5 ■ Connecting the SCSI interface When using the scanner with a SCSI interface, the fol- lowing SCSI cable and SCSI card mu st be purchased. • SCSI cable Use a SCSI cable whose connector on the scan- ner side is the 68-pin hi gh-density shielded-type and whose connector on the PC side fits the con- nector of the SCSI card to use.
6 3. When using the SCSI cable, set th e SCSI ID using the SCSI ID switch on the back of th e scanner. (Refer to step 3 in "Connecting the SCSI interface" on page 5 .) 4. Press the "I" side of the main power switch to turn on the scanner.
7 ■ System Requirements The system requirements for fi-5950 are as follows. *1: Scanner Central Admin Agent is not supported. *2: Not supported by Kofax VRS. *3: QuickScan Pro d oes not support t he Windows 64-bit version. *4: ScandAll PRO and Scan to Micros oft SharePoint are not supported.
8 4. Install the softwa re, following the onscreen instructions. INSTALL (Custom) 1. Perform Steps 1 and 2 in "INSTALL (Recom- mended)" (page. 7) . 2. Click the [INSTALL (Custom)] button. ⇒ The [INSTALL PROD UCTS] screen appears. 3. Click the button of the software to be installed.
9 2.4 Checking Scanner Driver Operation This section explains how to check the operation of the installed scanner driver by using ScandAll PRO. Make sure that the scanner driver is installed properly, following the procedure below. ■ Checking the Operation of the Scanner Driver 1.
10 9. In the [Scan Settings] dialog box, clear the [Sa ve to file] checkbox. 10. Click [Scanner Settings]. ⇒ A setup dialog box appears for you to configure scanner driver settings. 11. Configure scanner settings such as the resolution and paper size.
11 • To remove FUJITSU Scanner USB HotFix, select " FUJITSU Scanner USB HotFix ." 5. Clic k the [Change/ Remove] button or the [Remove] button. 6. When you see a confirmation dialog box, click the [OK] button or the [Yes] button. ⇒ Upon clicking the button, uninstallation is started.
