P3PC-4162-03EN Getting Started 1 Thank you for purchasing ScanSnap iX500 (hereinaf ter referred to as "the ScanSnap") . This manual describes the preparation required for use of th e ScanSnap. Follow the preparation pr ocedures described in this manual.
2 Before using the ScanSnap, make sure to read and understand the information provided in the "Safety Precautions" document. To refer to the "Operator’s Guide", insert the Se tup DVD-ROM into the DVD-ROM drive, and follow the procedure below.
3 Removing the Protective Packaging Follow the procedure described below to remove the protective packaging before using the ScanSnap. 1. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) (1), and pull the tape to re move the protective foam sheet (2) from the s tacker.
4 ■ Software You can install the following software. z ScanSnap Manager (Scanner driver) z ScanSnap Organizer (File manage ment application) z CardMinder (Business card management application) z ABBYY FineRead er for ScanSnap ™ (OCR application) Install other software bundled with the ScanSnap as needed.
5 ■ Installation 1. Turn your computer on and log on as a user with Ad ministrator privil eges. 2. Insert the Setup DVD-ROM into t he DVD-ROM drive. D The [ScanSnap Setup] dialog b ox appears. 3. Click the [Install Pro ducts] button. D The [Install Products] dial og box appears .
6 5. Follow the instructions on th e screen to connect the ScanSnap to the computer. Click the [Next] button, and follow the instructions on the screen to connect the ScanSnap to the computer. For details, refer to "Connecting the ScanSnap" (page 9) .

8 3. Double-click the [ScanSnap] icon. Follow the instructions on t he screen to continue with the installation. D When you proc eed with the o peration, th e [ScanSnap - Connectin g the ScanSnap] window appea rs. 4. Follow the instructions on th e screen to connect the ScanSnap to the computer.
9 Connecting the ScanSnap 1. Connect the AC cable to the AC adapt er (collecti vely call ed the "po wer cable "). 2. Plug the pow er cable into the power connector at the back of t he ScanSnap, and the other end to an AC outlet. 3. Remove the tape seal on the USB connector of the ScanSna p.
10 5. Open the ADF paper chu t e (cover) of the ScanSnap. D The ScanSnap i s powered on and t he [Scan] butto n lights in blue. 6. Check the ScanSnap Man ager icon. D The ScanSnap Manager icon is displayed in the menu that appears when y ou click on the notif ication area, at the far right of th e taskbar.
11 Scan T est (USB Connection) After you perform a scan, check the linkage with applications. For details on documents that can be scanned with t he ScanSnap, refer to "ScanSnap Overview" in the Operator's Guide. 1. Load a document in the ScanSna p.
12 3. In the Quick Menu, click the icon of the appli cation to link with ScanSnap Manager. D The selecte d application is started. Confirm that ScanSnap Manager is linked with the appl ication that was selected from the Quick Menu.
13 2. After performing the preparation s as described on the screen, click the [Nex t] button ( ) or the [Continue] butto n ( ). D The [Wireles s LAN setting] screen appears .
14 4. Select whether to register th e current computer to the ScanSn ap as a computer to be connected to the Scan Snap via wireless LAN. D The [Check mobi le connection ] screen appears . 5. Select whether to conne ct the ScanSnap and the mobile device via wireless LAN.
15 Scan T est (Wireless LAN Connection) Check that the image scanned by the ScanSnap is s ent to the computer o r mobile device. 1. Disconnect t he USB cable conn ecting the ScanS nap to the compu ter. D The ScanSnap i s connected to a comp uter via wirel ess LAN, and the S canSnap Manager ic on changes to ( ) / ( ).
