14 Chargin g the Ba ttery Z <Char ging Indic ator and St atuses > CAUTIO N • Unplug the battery ch arger from th e power outlet wh en it is not in use. • If the terminals of battery are soiled, it may not be possible to charge it. Clean the battery terminals and battery charger terminals with a clean, dry cloth.
15 Getting Ready Load ing th e Batte ry Battery is required to ope rate the d igital cam era. At fir st, load the b attery in th e came ra. 1 Open the battery cover. CHECK Check that the camera is turned off before opening the battery cover. CAUTIO N • Do not open the battery cover while the camera is on.

17 Getting Ready Load ing th e Memor y Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se an xD- Pictur e Car d and S D Memo ry Card with t he Fine Pix Z10fd.
18 Load ing the Me mory C ard CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
19 Getting Ready CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. An Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows an Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

21 Getting Ready Setting the language, date, an d time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after pur chasing, the lan guage, da te, and time are cleared . Set the langua ge, date, and tim e. 1 [ ] screen appears when turning the camera on. 2 Set the date and time .

25 Using the Camera Taki ng Pic tures (AU TO Mo de) This section describes th e basic operat ions. Refer t o p.41 for setti ng AUTO Mode. 1 Turn the cam era on. A Open the lens cover completely so that it will not move further. Holdi ng the c amera correc tly CAU TION • M oving the camera while shooting gives a blurred picture (camera shake).

27 Using the Camera 4 Press the shutter button fully. CAUTIO N When taking a picture using the flash, the image may disappear and go dark briefly due to flash charging. The indicator lamp blinks orange during charging. MEMO • When the subject is not in the AF frame , use AF/ AE lock to take the picture ( ➝ p.
28 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Z Indicato r lamp display The indicator lamp lights or blinks when pr essing the shu tter button, etc. The i ndicator lamp shows th e camera status. MEMO Detailed warning messages appear on the LCD monitor ( ➝ p.126-130).
29 Using the Camera CAUTIO N • If the camera or subject moves as the picture is taken, the subject’s face may move ou t of the Intelligent Face Detection frame. • When the camera is detecting multiple faces, the green frame is set around the face near the ce nter.
30 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Subjects not suitable for Intell igent Fa ce Det ection Intelligent Face Detection automatically focuses on a face(s) turned towards the camera. However, difficulties will occur with the Intelligent Face Detection mode in the following situations: • The face is obscured by glasses, sunglasses, a hat, or hair.
31 Using the Camera 3 Continue t o hold the shutter button down halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and p ress the shutter b utton full y. CAUTIO N When shooting with the AF/AE lock function, turn off Intelligent Face Detection. MEMO • AF/AE lock can be applied repeatedly before the shutter is released.
32 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Adjusting the shot composition Select the LCD monitor display. Press DISP/BACK to cha nge the LCD monitor display. Position the m ain subject at the interse ction of two lines in this fr ame o r align o ne of the hori zontal lines wit h the horizo n.

34 Viewing the Imag es Single-f rame play back Intelligent Face D etection When playing back images taken with Intelligent Face Detection ( ➝ p.28) ( appears on the LCD monitor), press (Intelligent Face Detection). A frame appears around the faces that were detected by FinePix Z10fd.

39 Using the Camera MEMO To erase another frame (file), repeat above steps. When erasing frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. CAU TION Pressing MENU/OK repeatedly erases consecutive frames (files). Take care not to erase a frame (file) by mistake.

Any time, flash does n ot fire. This m ode allo ws you to take pict ures of people at nigh t that clearly show bo th your sub jects and the night t ime backdrop.
53 Advanced Features — Photography When [ FACE DETECTION b REMOVAL ON] is set: CHECK Effective flash range ( : [AUTO]) Wide-angle: Approx. 70 cm to 3.9 m (2.3 ft. to 12.9 ft.) Telephoto: Approx. 70 cm to 3.4 m (2.3 ft. to 11.2 ft.) If you take pictures outside of the effective flash range, the image may appear dark even if the flash is used.

66 [SHOOTING MENU] Area shot an d quality sett ing Normal shooting provides an aspect ratio of 4:3 and % shooting provides an aspect ratio of 3:2 (same aspect ratio as 35 mm film and post card). MEMO • The bigger the number of recorded pixels, the better the image quality becomes.
67 Advanced Features — Photography MEMO When anything other than [ s MANUAL] in the Photography mode is selected, only [AUTO] can be selected for the [ISO] (sensitivity) setting. CAUTIO N Although higher sensitivity settings will allow you to take pictures in darker locations, they will also increase the amount of speckling in your images.
68 [SHOOTING MENU] MEMO • The [ FinePix COLOR] setting is retained even when the camera is off or the mode setting is changed. •[ p -CHROME] may have little visible effect with some subjects or the scene being shot. You may not be able to see any difference on the LCD monitor.

70 [PLAYBACK MENU] Sending and receiving images ([ IR COMMUNICATION]) You can send pho tographed images to another FU JIFILM digital camera (if it has I R Capab ility), other devi ces with high-spe ed infrared trans mission capabil ity, or any oth er mobile device with the IrS i mple function .
71 Advanced Features — Playback CAUTION • Make sure the receiving camera is turned on when transmitting image data. • If the image is 3:2 ratio, white lines may appear at the top and bottom or right and left of the print, depending on the printer type.
72 [PLAYBACK MENU] CAUTION • M ovie images cannot be transmitted. • I mage data may be compressed when transmitted. • I f [COMMUNICATION ERROR], [CANNOT BE TRANSMITTED], or [CANNOT BE RECEIVED] appears, press MENU/OK or o to retransmit the image data, or press DISP/BACK to cancel transmitting.
73 Advanced Features — Playback Transmitting and saving blog images ([ TRIMMING FOR BLOG]) You can change th e picture s you take to a smaller size and then transmit or save th em. This fu nction is per fect when you w ant to p ost your picture s on a bl og or oth er online foru m.
74 [PLAYBACK MENU] CHECK • Saved blog images have filenames that start with “BLOG” when they are imported to a PC or similar device. • When saved blog images are played back, appears on the screen and the images are surrounded by a black frame.

79 Advanced Features — Playback MEMO To stop the pr ocedur e midwa y If the images are very large, protecting or unprotecting all the frames (files) may take some time. If you want to take a picture or record a movie during the procedure, press DISP/BACK.
80 Using [PLAYBACK MENU] MEMO To copy another frame (file), repeat steps C and D . When copying frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. Copyin g one frame at a ti me ([FRAME] ) A Press n or o to select [F RAME].
81 Advanced Features — Playback CAU TION • W hen [ MEMORY FULL] or [ Y MEMORY FULL] appears on the LCD monitor, copying the data stops on the w ay. • W hen copying the image that has specified DPOF setting, the DPOF setting is not copied. 82 Using [PLAYBACK MENU] Adding voi ce memos to t he images ([ VOICE ME MO]) Voice me mos of up to 30 se conds ca n be adde d to st ill images . Face the microphon e to re cord your comment. Hold the ca mera abo ut 20 cm (7 .9 in.) awa y for th e best results.

84 Using [PLAYBACK MENU] Z Playing back voice m emos CHECK • Audio recording format: WAVE ( ➝ p.146), PCM recording format • Audio file size: Approx. 480 KB (for a 30-second voice memo) MEMO Playing back voice m emo file s • You may not be able to play back some voice memo files recorded on other cameras.
85 Advanced Features — Playback MEMO • P ressing DISP/BACK in step A or B re turns to single- frame playback. • A saved image size varies depending on the zoom scale of step A . For 0.3 M, k YES option appears in yellow. • I mage sizes • W hen % quality setting is selected, the image is trimmed to normal size (4:3 aspect ratio).
86 Using [PLAYBACK MENU] Intellig ent Fac e Detecti on For images taken with Intelligent Face Detection ( ➝ p.28 ) ( appears on the LCD monitor), you can zoom in on the focused faces and easily trim the main subject by pressing (Intelligent Face D etection).
87 Advanced Features — Playback MEMO Canceli ng DPOF setting A Press MENU/OK to open the [PLAYBACK MENU] and press n or o to select [ PRINT ORDER (DPOF)]. B Press q . C Press n or o to select [WITH DATE E ] or [WITHOUT DATE] and press MENU/OK. D Press p or q to select the frame (file) with the DPOF setting you want to cancel.
88 Using [PLAYBACK MENU] CAUTIO N • Pressing DISP/BACK while choosing settings will cancel all curren t settings. I f there were previous DPOF settings, only the modifications are canceled.
