The following describes the proper use of batteries and how to prolong their life . I ncor- rect use can shorten battery life or cause leak- age, overheating, fi re, or explosion.

7 First Steps First Steps Charging the Battery Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Char ge the battery before use. 1 Place the battery in the supplied batter y charger . Inser t the batter y in the orientation indicated by the DFC labels.
8 First Steps Charging the Battery 3 Charge the battery. Remove the battery when charging is complete. See the speci cations ( P 130) for char ging times (note that char ging times increase at low t em- peratures). Q Unplug the charger when it is not in use.

Please note that the repairer will be able to view pictures in int ernal memor y . • F ormatting a memory card or internal memor y in the camera creates a folder in which pictures are stor ed.

15 First Steps T urning the Camera on and O Q F orcibly obstructing the lens could cause damage or product malfunction. Q F ingerprints and other marks on the lens can a ect pictures. Keep the lens clean. Q The ON/OFF button does not completely end the supply of power to the camera.

Set up the camera as described below (you can reset the clock or change languages at any time using the F DA TE/TIME or Q a options in the setup menu; for inf ormation on displaying the setup menu, see page 102).

If the camera is unable to focus , focus on another subject at the same distance and use focus lock to recompose the photog raph.

64 GPS R R Landmark Navigat or Landmark Navigator Landmark navigation uses GPS and the camera map da- tabase to show information on objects the display (this is sometimes known as “ a ugmented r ealit y , ” or AR ). T o view landmark information, select R LANDMARK NA VIGA- TO R in the F -mode playback menu ( P 92).
65 GPS R Landmark Navigator Q Landmark information is based on the most recently-receiv ed GPS data; it is intend- ed as a guide only and may be unavailable or contain errors under some conditions, including when the camera is held upside down.

71 Connections Printing P ictures via USB Printing P ictures via USB If the printer suppor ts PictBridge, the camera can be connected directly to the printer as shown below and pictures can be printed without rst being copied to a comput er . Note that depending on the printer , not all the functions described below may be supported.
72 Connections Printing Pictures via USB 6 Pr ess MENU/OK to star t printing. Printing can be interrupted by pressing DISP/BACK , but note that some printers ma y not respond immediately . I f the printer stops befor e printing is complete, turn the camera o and then on again.
73 Connections Printing Pictures via USB Printing the DPOF Print Order Printing the DPOF Print Order The K PRINT ORDER (DPOF) option in the playback menu can be used to create a dig ital “ print order ” for PictBridge -compatible pr inters ( P 111) or de - vices that suppor t DPOF .

T o remove a picture from the print or der , pr ess the selector down until the number of copies is zero . 6 Repeat Steps 4 – 5 to complete the print order and pr ess MENU/OK when settings are complete .
75 Connections V iewing Pictures on a C omputer V iewing Pictures on a C omputer The supplied software can be used to copy pictures to a computer , where they can be stored , viewed, or ganized, and printed . Before pr oceeding, install the software as described below.

Note that you may be unable to remove the CD if Safari is running; if necessary, quit Safari bef ore removing the CD . Store the installer CD in a dry location out of direct sun- light in case you need to re-install the software.

Q If a memor y card containing a large number of images is inserted, there may be a delay befor e the software star ts and you may be unable to import or save images.
