10 First Steps Inser ting the Battery and a Memor y Card Q Q Batteries Batteries • Remove dir t from the battery terminals with a clean, dr y cloth. F ailure to observe this precaution could prev ent the battery from charging. • Do not affix stickers or other objects to the battery.
11 First Steps Charging the Battery Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Charge the batter y before use . The camera charges the battery internally. 1 Charge the battery . T urn the camera off and connect the cam- era to the supplied AC power adapt er us- ing the supplied USB cable.
12 First Steps Charging the Battery Charging via a comput er Charging via a computer The battery can be charged by connecting the camera to a computer . T urn the camera off and connect the sup- plied USB cable as shown, making sure the connectors are fully inserted.

14 First Steps T urning the Camera on and Off Q F orcibly obstructing the lens could cause damage or product malfunction. Q F ingerprints and other marks on the lens can affect pic tures. Keep the lens clean. Q The ON/OFF button does not completely end the supply of power to the camera.
15 First Steps Basic Setup Basic Setup A language -selection dialog is displayed the first time the camera is turned on. Set up the camera as described below (you can reset the clock or change languages at any time using the F DA TE/TIME or L a options in the setup menu; for inf ormation on displaying the setup menu, see page 74).

The camera automatically analyzes the composition and adjusts settings ap- propriately .

Use of a tripod is recommended to assist in composing overlap- ping shots. The camera zooms all the way out and zoom remains fixed at the widest angle until shooting is complete.

If the camera is unable to focus , focus on another subject at the same distance and use focus lock to recompose the photog raph.

P ress the selec- tor up or down to choose an exposure compensa- tion value and then press MENU/OK .

50 Connections Printing P ictures via USB Printing P ictures via USB If the printer suppor ts PictBridge, the camera can be connected directly to the printer as shown below and pictures can be printed without first being copied to a computer . Note that depending on the printer , not all the functions described below may be supported.

52 Connections Printing Pictures via USB Printing the DPOF Print Order Printing the DPOF Print Order The K PRINT ORDER (DPOF) option in the playback menu can be used to create a digital “print order” for P ictBridge -compatible pr inters ( P 82) or de - vices that suppor t DPOF .

T o remove a picture from the print or der , pr ess the selector down until the number of copies is zero . 6 Repeat Steps 4–5 to complete the print order and press MENU/OK when settings are complete .
