Any function that requires your prolonged attention should only be performed after coming to a complete stop.
3 -EN FR ES DE SE IT PRECAUTIONS T emperature Be sure the temperature inside the vehicle is between +60 ° C (+140 ° F) and –10 ° C (+14 ° F) before turning your unit on.
4 -EN About indicators • PRO LOGIC II indicator Lights amber in the Dolby Surround decode mode • Dolby Digital indicator Lights amber in the Dolby Digital decode mode • DTS indicator Lights amber in the DTS decode mode Operating the Rotary encoder This unit uses the Rotary encoder when establishing settings or adjustments.
5 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT Adjusting the input level Using the analog, RCA-type connections, the PXA-H701 ’ s input lev el must be preset from the head unit. Adjust the input level using a sound source with a high recording le vel (such as pop or rock music).
6 -EN 3 Connect the microphone. 1) F asten the microphone included with control unit at the center of the driver ’ s seat ’ s headrest f acing upwards . 2) Connect the microphone to the PXA-H701. 4 Set the vehicle ’ s engine key to the A CC position.
7 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT With the automatic adjustment function, the operation described below is perf or med. Adjustments are completed in about 10 seconds. Time correction. “ END ” is display ed for about 15 seconds and the automatic adjustment is completed.
8 -EN Performing time correction manually (TCR)/Switching the phase Because of the particular conditions inside the v ehicle, there are major diff erences in the distances between the diff erent speakers and the listening position.
9 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT 9 T urn the Rotary encoder to s witch the phase, then press the CHANNEL button. Press the ENTER button to return to step 8. 0 180 10 Repeat steps 7 to 9 to adjust other channels. 11 Once the adjustments are completed, press the TCR/PHASE button.
10 -EN Settings/Adjustments Bass Focus The time diff erence between the front-rear/left- right speakers, can be adjusted a pair at a time . Audib le time correction can be made from 0.05 ms to 20.00 ms in 401 steps (0 to 400). 1 Check that the def eat mode is off.
11 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT Example of Steps 4 and 5 Setting 1. After entering corrections for the front (left and right) speakers in STEP 30, the time diff erence is 1.5 ms for both front-left and front-right speakers. 2. After entering corrections for the left (front and rear) speakers in STEP 30, the time diff erence becomes 3.
12 -EN Settings/Adjustments (factory default) * 3 When center is set to subwoofer , it becomes Sub .W(R). 5 T urn the Rotary encoder to select the frequency , then press the ENTER button. Adjustable frequencies Front/Rear/Center: 20Hz~20kHz (1/3 octave step) Sub .
13 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT Parametric equalizer adjustments The frequency bands of the graphic equaliz er are fix ed. This makes it v er y difficult to correct for undesired peaks and dips at specific frequencies. The parametric equalizer ’ s center frequency can be tuned these specific frequencies.
14 -EN NO TES • When the speaker is set to the “ OFF ” mode , the parametric equalizer for that speaker is inef fective. Refer to “ Setting the speakers ” (page 4). • It is not possible to adjust the fr equencies of adjacent bands within 7 steps.
15 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT X-OVER The PXA-H701 is equipped with an activ e crossov er allowing the frequency bands to be split bef ore amplification. Because of this, there is no need f or a passive netw or k between the speakers and amplifiers . This mak es the amplifiers fully independent, eliminating the problem of interf erence.
16 -EN * 1 When center is set to subwoofer , it is not displa yed. * 2 When center is set to subwoofer , it becomes Sub .W(L). * 3 When center is set to subwoofer , it becomes Sub .W(R). 5 T urn the Rotary encoder to adjust the H.P .F . cutoff frequency , then press the ENTER button.
17 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT Hint for adjusting the subwoofer • If the subwoof er is installed on the rear deck, setting a gentle L.P .F . slope (for e xample 6 dB/ oct.) makes the sound localization more to the rear . This can also affect the acoustic localization of the front.
18 -EN MX settings MX (Media Xpander) makes v ocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. The radio , CD , and MP3, will be able to reproduce the m usic clear ly e ven in cars with a lot of road noise.
19 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT 3 T urn the Rotary encoder to select the source (media) you w ant to set, then press the ENTER button. 4 T urn the Rotary encoder to select the desired mode, then press the ENTER b utton. For further information about setting mode, see step 3 of 1 (page 18).
20 -EN * If DOLBY PL II MUSIC is selected, the center width can be adjusted with following operations. This function off ers the optimum vocal position by adjusting the center channel position between the center speaker and the L/R speaker .
21 -EN FR ES DE SE IT Adjustment procedure for Dolby Surround Make the adjustments described below in order to reproduce Dolby Digital and DTS sound with greater accuracy .
22 -EN Using Dolby Surr ound OFF: When no speaker is connected SMALL: When a speaker that cannot play low frequencies (80 Hz or less) is connected LARGE: When a speaker that can play low frequencies (80 Hz or less) is connected *1: It is not possible to set the front speakers to “ OFF ” .
23 -EN FR ES DE SE IT 4 T urn the Rotary encoder to select “ Auto ” , then press the ENTER button. T est tone output is repeated f or each of the different speaker channels. They will be repeated in the order shown below . If no operation is perf or med f or 2 seconds, the channel s witches to the ne xt channel.
24 -EN Using Dolby Surr ound Adjusting the acoustic image In most installations, the center speak er must be placed directly between the front passenger and driver . Using this function, the center channel inf or mation is distributed to the left and right speakers .
25 -EN FR ES DE SE IT Achieving powerful high volume sound With Dolby Digital, the dynamic r ange is compressed so that powerful sound can be achie v ed at regular volume le vels . This compression can be canceled to achieve an energetic sound with e ven greater pow er , like the sound in a movie theater .
26 -EN Convenient Functions Linear PCM setting The output when pla ying discs recorded in linear PCM can be set to 2 or 3 channels. 1 Press the SETUP button. The setup mode is set. 2 T urn the Rotary encoder to select the “ PCM MODE ” , then press the ENTER button.
27 -EN EN FR ES DE SE IT Display settings The displa y ’ s contrast and LCD (negativ e/ positiv e) can be adjusted. 1 Press the SETUP button. The setup mode is set. 2 T urn the Rotary encoder to select the “ DISPLA Y SETUP ” mode, then press the ENTER button.
28 -EN Convenient Functions Storing settings in the memory This function can store up to 6 adjustments/ settings. The f ollowing adjustments/settings are stored in a preset memory .

30 -EN Installation and Connections Before installing or connecting the unit, please read the following and pages 2 and 3 of this manual thoroughly for proper use. W arning DO NOT DISASSEMBLE OR AL TER. Doing so may result in an accident, fire or electric shock.
31 -EN FR ES DE SE IT ARRANGE THE WIRING SO IT IS NOT CRIMPED OR PINCHED BY A SHARP MET AL EDGE. Route the cables and wiring away from moving parts (like the seat rails) or sharp or pointed edges.
32 -EN Installation and Connections IMPORT ANT Please record the serial number of your unit in the space provided below and keep it as a per manent record.
33 -EN FR ES DE SE IT Installation Mounting the control unit (Sold Separately) CAUTION: Do not install the control unit near the air-bag of the front passenger ’ s seat. • Confirm the installation location will be safe. • Deter mine the mounting position on the dashboard.
34 -EN Installation and Connections 3 Mount the spacer and brack et to the control unit. Next, securely mount the f actory brackets remov ed from the factory radio, to the control unit assembly .
