2 Key Guide Function Keys BACK Erases a letter or goes back a step. CLEAR Clears to the Ready for word screen. CONF Shows Confusables ® (words that are similar or sound alike). ENTER Enters a word or scrolls. Shows the next thesaurus entry . In a game, star ts a new round.
3 Getting Started T o Install the Batteries This unit uses 4 AAA batteries. You must insert the batteries before getting started. The batteries should be changed when the screen contrast is too light even after adjustment. Please have a small Phillips screw- driver at hand before you follow the steps below.
4 1. T ype a wor d or misspelling. 2. Press ENTER. The flashing T to the right indicates that the word has at least one thesaurus entr y . 3. Press to view more corrections.
5 When you enter a correctly spelled word, the thesaurus entr y for that word appears . The- saurus entries contain brief definitions, and synonym lists. Some thesaurus entries also include Class- mates (words related by subject), idioms, and antonyms .
6 ✓ Help is Alwa ys at Hand Y ou can vie w help inf or mation at most screens by pressing HELP . T o e xit help, press BACK. 5. Continue pressing to view its idioms and antonyms, if any . 6. Press NEXT to go to the next thesaurus entry for your entry word.
7 Viewing Confusab les ® Confusables are words that have similar spell- ing or sound alike. If a question mark flashes to the right of a word, that word has Confus- ables . T r y this e xample. 1. T ype reign . 2. Press ENTER. Notice the flashing question mark at the right of the screen.
8 Finding Letter s in W ords Y ou can type a question mark in place of an unknown letter in a w ord. Y ou can also type an asterisk in place of a series of unknown letters. More than one question mark and asterisk can be used in a word. 1. T ype a wor d with question marks and asterisks in place of letters.
9 The P ersonal W ord List can contain up to 99 words of y our choice for study or re view . T o Add a W ord to the List 1. Press CLEAR. 2. T ype the wor d you want to add. 3. Press LIST . 4. Press until you see Add T o List . 5. Press ENTER to add the word.
10 T o Delete a W ord Fr om the List 1. Press LIST . 2. Press until you see Delete From List . 3. Press ENTER. 4. Press to choose the word you want to delete, if needed. 5. Press ENTER to delete the word. T o Erase the Entire List 1. Press LIST . 2. Press until you see Erase List .
11 T o Choose a Skill Level 1. Press GAMES. 2. Press until you see Skill Level and then press ENTER. 3. Use and to select a skill level, and then press ENTER. T o Choose the Game W ords 1. If needed, press GAMES. 2. Use and until you see Game W ords and then press ENTER.
12 ✓ Keys to the Games Y ou can use these k eys in most games: T o... Press... Get a hint ✽ End a round and ? reveal the answers Begin a new round NEXT If you ask for a hint, you will lose that round. Also, when a flashing T appears at the right of a word after a round, you can see its thesaurus entries by pressing EN- TER.
13 Hangman Hangman challenges you to guess mystery words one letter at a time. Each letter is hid- den b y a question mark. The number of wrong guesses appears at the right of the screen. Press ENTER or ✽ to re v eal a letter . Anagrams Anagrams asks you to form a word from the letters of another word.
14 Playing the Games W ord J umble Word Jumble tests your skill at unscrambling letters. Unlike Anagr ams, each letter needs to be used. The number to the r ight of the let- ters shows how many words can be made with the letters in order to win. T ype your an- sw er and press ENTER.
15 Playing the Games words can be made from your letters (or word). T o pla y W ord Builder , enter as many of the words as y ou can. T o help solve Scrabb le ® , press ? and then use and to view the words built from the letters. W ord Blaster In W ord Blaster , you try to guess a myster y word.
16 Deduction displays a mystery pattern repre- sented b y the f our question marks. T o make a guess, type the letters (a-f) in a pattern then press ENTER. A letter can be used more than once. After entering your guess, a scorecard ap- pears showing the number of correct letters perfectly located (P) or misplaced (M).
