The l ap bel t portion of a combina tion lap and shoul der belt shoul d be positioned l ow acr oss the hips bel ow the belly and w orn as tight as c omfort will allo w . The shoul der belt should be positioned t o cross the middl e of the shoulder and the c ent er of the chest.

S AFETY BEL T HEIGHT ADJU S TMENT W ARNING Po sition the saf ety belt height adjust er so that the bel t rests acro ss the middle of y our shoul der . Fail ure to adjus t the saf ety belt pr operly c ould reduc e the eff ectiv eness of the sa fe ty bel t and incre ase the risk of injury in a cr a sh.
S AFETY BEL T MINDER Belt-Minder® This f ea ture supplements the sa fety bel t warning function b y pro viding additional reminders b y intermittentl y sounding a chime and illumina ting the sa fe ty bel t warning light when the driv er's or front passeng er's seat is oc cupied and the sa fet y belt is unbuck led .

Ford Mot or Compan y rec ommends that all sa fet y belt a ssemblies in use in vehicl es invol ved in a cra sh be replac ed . How ev er , if the cra sh wa s minor and an authorized deal er finds that the bel ts do not show damag e and continue t o opera te properl y , they do not need t o be replac ed.
The P ersonal Saf ety S ystem pr ovide s an impro ved o ver all lev el of frontal cr a sh prot ection t o front se at oc cupants and is designed t o help further reduc e the risk of airbag-r ela te d injuries.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION W ARNINGS Airbags do not infl ate sl owl y or gentl y, and the risk of injury from a deplo ying airbag is the gr ea t est cl ose to the trim c ov ering the airbag modul e.
DRIVER AND P ASSENGER AIRBA GS W ARNINGS Nev er plac e your arm or an y objects ov er an airbag modul e. P lacing y our arm ov er a deplo ying airbag can resul t in serious arm fractur es or other injuries.

1. Insert the ke y bla de into the sl ot on the bott om of the handle and pr ess up. 2. Whil e maintaining up ward pr essur e, mov e the cap r earwar d t o rel ea se it. Gently r emov e the k ey whil e doing so. T o install the c ap: E151957 1. Pla ce the c ap just forw ard of the k ey cylinder .

Pr ess the remot e start butt on twice. The e xt erior lamps will fl ash twice . The horn will sound if the s yst em f ails to start, unl ess quiet start is on.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION MyK ey allow s you t o program k eys with restric ted driving mode s to pr omote g ood driving habits. All but one of the k ey s progr ammed t o the vehicl e can be activ at ed with these r estrict ed modes. Any k eys tha t have not been pr ogrammed are r eferr ed t o as a dministra tor key s or admin k eys.
CREA TING A MYKEY Use the informa tion display t o cre at e a MyK ey: 1. Insert the k ey y ou want t o progr am into the ignition. If your v ehicle is equipped with a push-butt on start, pl ac e the intellig ent acc ess k ey f ob into the b ackup sl ot.
NUMBER OF MYKEY(S) Indica te s the number of MyK ey s progr ammed t o your v ehicle . Use this fe atur e to de te ct how man y MyK ey s you hav e for y our vehicl e and determine when a MyK ey has been del et ed. NUMBER OF ADMIN KEY(S) Indica te s how many a dmin ke ys are progr ammed t o your v ehicle .

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING Y ou can use the pow er door lock contr ol or the remot e contr ol to l ock and unlock the vehicl e. Po wer Door Lock s The po wer door l ock control is on the driver and front pa ssenger door p anels. E138628 Unlock A Lock B Door Lock Indicator An LED on each door windo w trim will light when you l ock the door .
Mislock If any door or the lu gga ge c ompartment is open, or if the hood is open on vehicl es with an anti-theft alarm or r emot e start, the horn will sound twic e and the lamps will not fla sh. Y ou can enabl e or disable this fe atur e in the inf ormation displ ay .
When you el ectronicall y lock your v ehicl e (with any door open, v ehicle in park and ignition off), the vehicl e will search f or an intellig ent ac cess k ey in the pa ssenger compartment a ft er you cl ose the l ast door .
The ill uminat ed entry syst em will turn off the lights if: • the ignition is on, • you pr ess the remot e contr ol l ock butt on, or • aft er 25 sec onds of illumina tion. The lights will not turn off if: • you turn them on with the l amp contr ol, or • any door is open.

Anti-Scan Featur e The k eypa d will go int o an anti-scan mode if you ent er the wrong c ode sev en times (35 consec utive butt on presses). T his mode disabl es the ke ypad f or one minute and the ke ypad l amp will fla sh.
The f actory-set c ode will appear in the informa tion display f or a fe w sec onds. Note: The code ma y not displ ay until a fter any other w arning messag es firs t displa y .
P ASSIVE ANTI-THEFT S YS TEM Note: The sy stem is no t compa tibl e with non-Ford a ftermark et r emote s tart sy stems. Use of these s yst ems may r esul t in vehicl e starting probl ems and a loss of sec urity prot ection.

When the hea dlamp s witch is in the Aut olamps position, the windshield wiper activ at ed e xterior l amps will turn on within 10 seconds when y ou switch the windshield wiper s on. T he ext erior lamps will turn off appro xima tel y 60 seconds aft er you s witch the windshiel d wipers off.
HEADLAMP EXIT DELA Y Aft er you s witch the ignition off , y ou can swit ch the headl amps on by pulling the direc tion indica tor l ever to war d you. Y ou will hear a short t one. T he headl amps will swit ch off automa tically a fter thr ee minutes with an y door open or 30 sec onds aft er the l ast door ha s been closed .
Once the s yst em is activ e, the high be ams will swit ch on if: • the ambient light le vel is l ow enough • there is no tr affic in fr ont of the vehicl e • the vehicl e speed is gr ea ter tha.
DIRECTION INDIC A TORS E169255 Push the l ev er up or down t o use the direc tion indica tor s. GLOBAL OPENING AND CLO SING Y ou can use the remot e control to oper ate the window s with the ignition off. Note: Y ou can enable or disabl e this fea ture in the informa tion displ ay or see an authorized de al er . See General Information (pa ge 88).
Signal Indicat or Mirrors (If Equipped) The out er portion of the appropria t e mirror housing will blink when you s witch on the turn signal. Integr at ed Blind Spot Mirrors (If Equipped) W ARNING Objects in the blind spot mirr or are clos er than they appear .
Note: Do not cle an the housing or gla ss of any mirror with har sh abra sives, fuel or other petrol eum or ammonia-based cl eaning product s. Y ou can adjust the int erior mirror t o your pref erence. S ome mirror s also ha ve a second piv ot point. This le ts you mo ve the mirror he ad up or down and fr om side to side.

Note: During silent k ey st art mode, the thermomet er indica tor will be bl ue, but the ga soline engine will not run. This is the resul t of the vehicl e computer all owing the engine to be c ooler during the sil ent key st art period. T his is normal opera tion and does not indica te a problem with y our vehicl e.
