5 POWER SUPPL Y Battery 1. Open the battery compartment lid. 2. Install two “ AAA ” batteries (not supplied). Observe proper polar- ity . Battery indicator ( ) The line of rectangles is the battery gauge. Black rectangles show the bat- tery condition while the unit is operating.
6 MultiMediaCard TM Inserting the MultiMediaCard 1. Open the MultiMediaCard com- partment lid. 2. Check the edge of the card and insert the card as shown in the illustration. 3. Close the lid. Removing the MultiMediaCard 1. Slide the POWER switch (back of the unit) to the OFF position.

21 TIME/ SET ERASE Erasing all memories 1 . Press the ERASE button four times . •“ ERASE ALL MEMORY ” blinks. 2. While “ ERASE ALL MEMOR Y ” is blinking, press the TIME/SET but- ton. •“ ERASE ” appears briefly . All memories in all folders are erased.
22 CREATE FILE FE ERASE TIME/SET Operation switch Partial erasing (A-B erasing) 1. Press the F or E button to se- lect the file. 2. Slide the operation switch to the PLA Y position to start playback. 3. Press the CREA TE FILE button to pause at the starting point you want to erase (Point A).
23 7. While “ ERASE END ” is blinking, press the TIME/SET button. •“ ERASE ” appears briefly . The section between points A and B in the selected file is erased. Playback pause is set automatically . (The elapsed playing time blinks.) Press the CREA TE FILE button again or stop playback.
24 TIME/SET + VOLUME – MENU/ FOLDER ERASE ERASE GUARD Erase guard functions to pre- vent accidental erasure. 1 . Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button down at least 2 seconds in the stop mode. (See “ Selecting the menu ” on page 9.) 2 . Press the MENU/FOLDER button repeatedly to select “ ERASE GUARD ” .
25 VOICE ALARM TIMER 1. Set the ALARM ON, date, and time. (See “ Selecting the menu ” and “ V arious menu modes ” in “ SELECTING THE FOLDER AND MENU ” on pages 9 ~ 12.) 2. Press the MENU/FOLDER button repeatedly to select “ FOLDER ALARM ” .

29 3. If the “ Wizard ” appears on the screen, follow the instructions on the screen. (There is a driver file in the place that you installed the software.) If your PC is “ WindowXP ” , the screen shows: 1) Click [Next]. 2) Click [Continue Any- way].
30 3) Click [Finish]. 4. Operate your PC. (Follow the instructions on the CD-ROM. Refer to “ D:Manualmanual-E.pdf ” .) When the “ PC Memo Scriber ” program is properly started on the PC, “ PC CONNECT ” appears on the display of the unit, and the control buttons on the unit will not function.
31 TIME/SET INDEX/ CANCEL EAR Operation switch POWER ENROLLING/TRANSCRIBING A DA T A FILE (USING VIAVOICE) ViaV oice is not supplied and must be purchased separately . Enrolling 1. Disconnect the USB cable. 2. Connect one end of the audio cable (supplied) to the EAR jack and the other end to the LINE-IN jack on the PC.
32 Notes on operating ViaV oice For ViaV oice Release 8 or 9: 1) On the Windows desktop, select [Start] > [Settings] > [Control Panel]. (For Windows XP , select [Start] > [Control Panel] > [Switch to Classic View].) Double-click [IBM ViaV oice Options] icon.

34 Important Note: When you attempt to transcribe a data file from the unit, be sure to enroll by using the unit. If you enroll data by using the headset supplied with ViaV oice, an extremely low recognition rate results. Note: IBM ViaV oice Release 8 or 9 must be used.
35 CLEANING THE CABINET Clean the outside of the unit with a clean soft cloth, moistened with luke- warm water . Do not use benzene, thinner or alcohol since they will mar the finish of the surfaces.
