Installation instruc tions DEGX1US Electric Dr yer.
I mpor tant safety instruc tions W ARNING T o reduce the risk of fire, elec tric shock, or injur y to persons when using your appliance, follow basic precautions, including the following: 1. Read this befor e you star t installing your dr yer This is the safety aler t symbol. This symbol alerts you to hazards that can kill or hurt you and others.
T o the installer The correct installation of the dr yer is your responsibility. Be sure you read the following instructions carefully before you start to install the dr yer . These instructions should be left with the home owner for future ref erence.
The area in which the dr yer is located must be kept clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other flammable vapours and liquids. A dr yer produces combustible lint so the area around the dr yer must be cleaned regularly to keep it free of lint.
Dimensions Lid clearance Check that there is enough clearance for the lid to fully open. .
Mobile home installation The installation of the dr yer in a mobile home must conform to the Manufac tured Home Construction and Safety Standard Title 24 CFR, Part 32-80 {formerly the F ederal Standard for Mobile Home Construction and Safety , Title 24 HUD (Part 280), 1975} for the United States.
Exhausting The dr yer must be exhausted to the outdoors. This will prevent the build up of lint and moisture in the room in which it is located and reduce the risk of fire. W ARNING Fir e Hazard The dr yer must be vented to the outdoors. Use rigid or thick wall flexible metal exhaust duc t.
T o reduce condensation, insulate any ducting which passes through unheated areas. Slope the duct gently downwar ds to the hood, to drain condensation and reduce lint build up. Avoid sag or loops in the duct as the y may collect and store water and accumulate lint.
Choose a route that will provide the straightest and most direct path outdoors. Plan the installation to use the fewest number of elbows and turns. When using elbows (r igid duct) or making turns (thick wall flexible metal duct), allow as much room as possible.

Alternative installation f or close clearances Venting systems come in many varieties. Selec t the type best for your installation. A close - clearance installation is shown.
Exhaust venting W ARNING Fir e Hazard Use heavy metal exhaust duct. Do not use a plastic exhaust duc t. Do not use thin metal foil exhaust duc t. F ailure to do so can result in death or fire. 1. Read the exhaust sec tion (page 8–12) before installing the exhaust system to determine the maximum allowable exhaust duc t length.
I nstallation P ar ts and literature are pack aged inside the dr yer drum. W ARNING Ex cess W eight Hazard Use two or more people to move and install the dr yer . F ailure to do so can result in back or other injury . Only remove the pack aging at the customer ’ s premises.
F itting the front feet Note: Dr yer is usually supplied with feet fitted and protruding the correct distance. 1. T ilt the dr yer back using a hand trolley and mak ing sure the trolley and dr yer are secure. 2. Fit a rubber inser t to each plastic foot as shown.
Electr ical requir ements W ARNING Electric Shock Hazard Use a new UL approv ed 30-ampere power cord or direct wire cable. Use a UL approved strain relief. Disconnect pow er before mak ing elec trical connec tions. Connect neutral wire (white or center wire) to center terminal.
W ARNING Electric al Shock Hazard Make sure appliance is wired or plugged into a grounded outlet. Do not use an adaptor . Do not use an extension cord .
P ower supply cord requirements for U .S.A Only a UL listed power-supply cord k it at least 6ft (1.8m) long and rated 120/240 V min, 30 A and marked with use for clothes dr yers shall be used. This shall have ring terminals to connect to the dr yer .
Electr ical connections Please read Electrical requiremen ts and grounding instruc tions on pages 16–18 first. The DEGX1 electric model of the Smar tLoad™ dr yer is manufactured for a 3-wire connection system. T he dr yer frame is grounded by a link to the neutral conduc tor on the dr yer terminal block.
3-wir e connections F or use where local codes permit grounding through the Neutral wire . Use appro ved 3-wir e P ower Supply Cord or a 3-w ire Cable fo r Direct W iring as described on page 18.

4-wir e connections Use approved 4-wire Power Supply Cord or a 4-wire Cable for Direct Wiring as described on page 18. 1. Remove the terminal block cover plate. 2. I nsert the power supply cable with a UL listed strain relief through the hole provided in the cabinet near the terminal block.
L evel machine Check the dr yer is level, and make necessar y adjustments to the front levelling feet. The rear levelling feet are self adjusting. F inal installation check list Check that: No plastic or flexible metal foil is used in the exhaust ducting.
