Model SC7010B INTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing First Alert ® for your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm needs. Y ou have purchased a state-of-the-art Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm designed to provide you with early warning of a fir e or Carbon Monoxide.
2 INST ALLA TION WHERE TO INST ALL THIS ALARM Minimum coverage for Smoke Alar ms , as r ecommended by the National Fir e Pr otection Association (NFP A), is one Smoke Alarm on every floor , in every sleeping area, and in every bedroom (See “Regulatory Information For Smoke Alarms” for details on the NFP A r ecommendations).
3 The Mounting Bracket: T o remove the mounting bracket from the Alarm base, hold the Alarm base firmly and twist the mounting bracket counter clockwise. The mounting bracket installs onto the junction box. It has a variety of screw slots to fit most boxes.
4 The basic installation of this Alarm is similar whether you want to install one Alarm, or interconnect more than one Alarm. If you ar e inter connecting mor e than one Alarm, you MUST read “Special Requir ements For Interconnected Alarms” below befor e you begin installation.
LOCKING FEA TURES The locking featur es ar e designed to discourage unauthorized removal of the batteries or Alarm. It is not necessary to activate the locks in single-family households where unauthorized battery or Alarm removal is not a concern.

7 IF THE SMOKE ALARM SOUNDS RESPONDING TO AN ALARM • If the unit alarms and you are not testing the unit, it is warning you of a potentially dangerous situation that requir es your immediate attention. NEVER ignore any alarm. Ignoring the alar m may result in injury or death.
8 POTENTIAL SOURCES OF CO IN THE HOME Fuel-bur ning appliances like: portable heater , gas or wood burning fireplace, gas kitchen range or cooktop, gas clothes dryer . Damaged or insuf ficient venting: corr oded or disconnected water heater vent pipe, leaking chimney pipe or flue, or cracked heat exchanger , blocked or clogged chimney opening.

ABOUT SMOKE ALARMS Battery (DC) operated Smoke Alarms: Provide pr otection even when electricity fails, pr ovided the batteries ar e fresh and correctly installed. Units ar e easy to install, and do not r equire professional installation. However , they do not provide interconnected functionality .
