INST ALLA TION WHERE TO INST ALL CO ALARMS The National Fire Protection Association (NFP A) recommends that a CO Alarm s hould be centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the i mmediate vicinity of the bedrooms. For added protection, install additional CO Alarms in each separate bedroom, and on every level of your home.
3 INST ALLING THE AA BA TTERIES 1 . Flip the battery door down to open. 2 . Install both AA batteries (included) inside the battery compartment as indicated. M ake sure the “+” and “–” ends of each battery are aligned properly . 3. Close the battery door .
4 WHA T YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CO WHA T IS CO? CO is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas produced when fossil fuels do not b urn completely , or are exposed to heat (usually fire). Electrical appliances t ypically do not produce CO. T hese fuels include: W ood, coal, charcoal, oil, natural gas, gasoline, kerosene, and propane.
WHA T LEVELS OF CO CAUSE AN ALARM? Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Standard UL2034 requir es residential CO Alarms to sound when exposed to levels of CO and exposure times as d escribed below . They ar e measur ed in parts per million (ppm) of CO over t ime (in minutes).
C O Alarm goes back into alarm 4 minutes after you press the T est/Silence button. C O levels indicate a potentially dangerous situation. IF YOU ARE FEELING SYMPTOMS OF CO POISONING, EV ACUA TE your home and call 911 or t he Fire Department. If not, press the T est/Silence b utton again and k eep ventilating your home.
