18 CONFIGURING THE LID FOR A UT OMA TIC OPENING AND CLOSING The unit is shipped in this confi guration, but if y ou hav e confi gured it f or manual operation and wish to use the automatic open/close function again, f ollow this procedure to confi gure f or automatic operation: 1.
19 SHUTTING OFF THE GRILL T o shut off the grill, depress each valv e control knob and, and while pressing tur n it cloc kwise to the OFF position. Alwa ys close the v alve from the gas supply after each use of the grill. ELECTR ONIC LIGHTING Note: Electronic lighting requires an installed 9-volt batter y with a good charge.

24 WOK COOKING When using a wok f or stir fr y or other cooking, remov e the cooking grid and place the wok directly on top of the collimator . CA UTION: A wok has a rounded bottom and ma y slide on the collimator , causing hot liquid to spill out of it.

26 THE COOKING GRID LIFTER Hold the grid lifter by g r ipping the center section with the prongs pointing down (use an o ven mitt or hea vy glov e if the grill is hot). Inser t the notched end of the g r id lifter into the cooking grid, in front of the midwa y point (front to back; Fig.
27 Drippings from grilling flow through specially designed channels and collect in the drip tra y . Check the drip tra y regular ly and empty when required. Y our grill includes a pack of f our (4) Fire Magic ® drip tra y liners (Fig. 27-1). F or your con venience in cleanup , place a liner into the dr ip tra y bef ore grilling.
28 Fire Magic ® Echelon grills are all engineered with the conv eniences of electr ical power f or illuminating and igniting the grill. T o replace any Echelon ov en light, follo w the instructions below . W ARNING T o protect from potentially shar p sheet metal and glass, w ear glov es and safety glasses during this procedur e.
29 Check and clean the b ur ner por ts and carr y-ov er slits f or bloc kage at least annually by remo ving the burner (see orifi ce changing instr uctions) and visually inspecting the burner inlet f or insects and nests. A clogged burner can lead to a fi re beneath the unit.
30 If you ha ve troub le with this Fire Magic ® barbecue, please use this list to identify the problem. By tr ying one or more of the solutions to the possible cause , you should be ab le to solve the problem.
31 REGULA TOR CONVERSION The gas regulator , located behind the control panel, must be set f or the type of gas used to fuel the grill. T o check the regulator setting, remov e the cap in the center of the regulator (Fig. 31-1). Holding the cap ver tical (see Fig.
32 4. Remo ve the bac k panel by pulling the bottom tow ard the front of the grill and rotating it upward and outward until the tw o top tabs attached to back wall of the ov en can be remov ed from the slots in the top of the plate.

34 B A CKBURNER (IF EQUIPPED) The backb ur ner is set at the f actor y and will not require adjustment unless this unit is conv er ted or used at an ele vation abo ve 2,000 ft. Flames from a properly adjusted backb ur ner will appear as a horizontal line of e ven b lue fl ames along the bottom of and behind the backb ur ner gr ating.
35 PO WER BURNER P ower b ur ner air shutter adjustment is located on dual necks of the po wer b ur ner where they connect with the gas manif old and or ifi ces, as show in Fig. 35-1. CA UTION: NEVER handle a hot burner . T o adjust the air shutters: 1.
36 SAFETY The right knob controls the front burner and the left knob controls the back b ur ner . CA UTION: THE SIDEBURNER MUST COOL DO WN BEFORE HANDLING OR ADJUSTMENT . Do not operate the sideb ur ner with the cov er closed. Be sure the sideburner has good ventilation, is free of debris, and is aw a y from fl ammable substances bef ore lighting.
