AT-GS950/48 Gigabit Ethernet WebSm art Switch Installation Guide 25 Ethernet Switching Basics An Ethernet switch interconnects network devices, such as workstat ions, printers, routers, and other Ethernet switches, so that they ca n communicate with each other by sending and receiving Ethernet frames.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 26 Duplex Mode Duplex mode refers to how an end node receives and transmits data. If an end node can receive or transmit data, but not bo th simultaneously, it is operating in what is referred to as half-du plex mode.
AT-GS950/48 Gigabit Ethernet WebSm art Switch Installation Guide 27 data link, which stops the end node. When the switch is ready to receive data again, the switch stops forcing co llisions. This is referred to as back pressure. A port operating at 100 Mbps and full- d uplex mode uses PAUSE frames, as specified in the IEEE 802.
