Basic Printing 1-2 Setting Printer Options from Windows Applications This section describes the preferences you’ll need to set for all your everyday printouts. See Chapter 2 for information about advanced settings for special print jobs. Follow these steps to check printer settings from your word processor or other Windows software: 1.
Basic Printing 1-3 3. If you do not see the dialog box shown in st ep 2, click the Main tab. 4. Make sure the Mode option is set to Automatic . The printer software determines the best s ettings according to the Media Type and Ink settings you make.
Basic Printing 1-4 8. If necessary, clic k the Paper tab and choose your paper size, number of copies, orien tation, and printable area. If your software application lets you con trol these settings, you don’t need to use the Paper tab. 9. Cl ick OK when you’re finished checking your sett ings.

For even more fine-tuning , choose PhotoEnhan ce , ICM (Windows 95), or ColorSync (Macin tosh). ◗ PhotoEnhance Produces sharper images and more vivid colors by automatically adjusting the contrast, saturation, and brightness. Corrects for overall over- or under-exposure of the original photograph.
Custom Printing 2-10 ColorSync uses profile information from each device— including your EPSON S tylus CO LOR 600—to achieve accurate color matching. First you have to make sure your monitor’s profile is set . Then you can use your printer software to specify the exact method of color m atching you want to use.
Custom Printing 2-11 Saving Custom Settings After you’ve fine-tune d your printer setting s for a special project, you can save the settings as a group with a unique name and add it to the Custom Sett ings list. Then you can easily select the sett ings the next time you print a similar project.
Custom Printing 2-12 Redefining Custom Settings To change the options in a customized setti ng group but keep the same name for it, follow these steps: 1. Select Advanced mode. 2. Select the nam e of the custom setting s group you want to redefine in the Custom Setti ngs list.
3-1 3 Your EPSON S tylus COLOR 600 lets you print on just about any kind of paper you want to use. You can get great result s printing on various sizes of plain paper, letterhead, and envelopes. You’ll get even bett er results with specially coated ink jet paper.
Printing on Special Media 3-2 Media Loading and Software Settings Guidelines Whether you print on plain paper or special med ia, you need to load it according to the guidelines in the table below. You must also be sure to select the correct Media Type setting in your printer software to match the media you loaded.
Printing on Special Media 3-3 1 Load with the short edge leading into the feeder. 2 Use the Flip Horizontal option to reverse your image before y ou print it—especially if it includes text—so the image will appear correctly when it’s transferred.

Printing on Special Media 3-5 EPSON Photo Quality Glossy Paper, Film, and Transparencies To print on transparencies, remove the paper support and reinstall it in the rear paper support slot. For glossy paper and film, leave the paper support in the normal position.
Printing on Special Media 3-6 EPSON Photo Paper You can use these cards to print photographs that look alm ost as good as the ones you get from film processing. EPSON Photo Paper (4 × 6 inches) is perforated around the edges, so you can trim your printouts and “bleed” the photo—extend it to the edge of the paper—on all sides.
Printing on Special Media 3-7 ◗ Choose EPSON Photo Paper 4 × 6 in as the Paper Size setting an d Maximum as the Printable Area se tting . ◗ Choose Photo Quality Glossy Paper as the Media Type setting. ◗ After you print your picture, fold the paper back and forth along the perforations and carefully tear the margins off.
Printing on Special Media 3-8 EPSON Iron-On Transfer Paper You can print photos, company logos, or anything else you want on this paper, and then transfer your images to T-shirts or other cloth items. Load one sheet of transfer paper at a time and select Ink Jet Transparencies as your media type in your printer software.
Printing on Special Media 3-9 If ink smears when you print on env elopes or other thick media, set the adjust lever to the + positi on. Open the printer cover and position the lever as shown below. Then close the cove r and print. (Make sure you return the lever to the 0 position before you print on thin media.

If you’re using your printer on a net work, you need to follow the special setup procedures in this chapter.

Maintenance and Transportation 5-10 Transporting the Printer If you want to move your printer some distance, you need to prepare it for transportation and repack it in the original box. Follow these steps: 1. Turn on the printer and wait until the print heads lock in the far right position.
