2 PictureMate Dash TM and PictureMate Zoom TM are your easy-to-use, perso nal photo labs. Just inser t a di gital camera memory card and you’re ready to print brilliant, lon g-lasting photos. Becaus e PictureMate ® is light and por table, you can print whenever and wherever you take pictures.
3 Special F eatures Printing with your PictureMate beco mes even easier with these spec ial features: From PictureMate’s photo viewer screen, you can view your photos and press Print to print the ones you want. Or you can select to print all photos.
4 Supported Photo Formats Make sure your photos meet these requireme nts for printing with your PictureMate (without a co mputer): ● JP EG files or uncompre ss ed TIF F files on ly ● Resolutions rang ing from 80 × 80 to 92 00 × 9200 pixe ls PictureMate recognizes and prints the first 999 photos on your memory card.
5 PictureMate Buttons Start printing Change the number of photos displayed Zoom and crop Turn PictureMate on or off Display optional settings menu Move through photos and menu options Go back Stop pri.
6 Before you print with PictureMate, you need to: ● Load paper (below) ● Insert your memory card (see page 7) When you finish printing, you can remove your memory card (see page 8). Note: The illustrations in this manual show Picture Mate Dash, but the instruction s cover both PictureM ate Dash and PictureMate Zo om, except where n oted.
7 4 Slide the edge guides outward. 5 Create a stack of up to 20 sheets of paper and separate the sheets slig htly by fanning them. 6 Place your paper into th e slot between the edge guides with the glossy or white r side up. Slide the edge guides inward slightly.
8 Now you are ready to choose your photos and start printing. (See page 9.) Removing Y o ur Memory Card When you are ready to remo ve a memory card, first make sure the memory card light is not flashing. Caution: Do not remove a card while the memory card ligh t is flashing; you may lose photos on your card.
9 After you inser t your camera’s memory card, PictureMate displays your photos on the photo viewer screen (shown at right). Note: You can adjust th e angle of the photo viewer sc reen by raising or lowering the top of t he screen. Be sure to lower the screen before closing the p rinter lid.
10 Press the Display button to switch between one photo displaye d with or without text, one photo with a “filmstrip” of 5 additiona l photos, or 1 6 photos, as shown: Responding to a Blank Screen (P ower Saver) If you are not using PictureMate, the screen goes dark after about 1 3 minutes to save power .
11 4 T o sele ct more photos , press l or r to view a photo and press OK to select it . Repeat step 3 to select more copies, if necessary. 5 T o preview your photos , press Print . The preview screen shows the layout, cropping, and other settings you have chosen, for example: Note: For more in formation about print settings, see page 15.
12 6 If you want to change the layo ut or edit your photos, press Menu . See page 15 for instructions. 7 Make sure you have enough paper loaded, then press Print to star t printing. Note: If you are printing more than 20 photos, you will need to reload paper while printing.
13 Printing Camera -Selected DPOF Photos If your camera s upports DPOF (Digital Print Order Format), you can use it to pre-select which photos and how many copies you want to print. See your camera’s manual to choose photos for printing with DPOF , then in sert your memory card in PictureMate.
14 Storing and Displaying Your PictureMate Photos Photos printed on Pictur eMate photo paper are beautiful and long-lasting . Follow these guidelines to make sure they will l ook great for generations. Caring for Y our Ph otos ● T o avoid scratches or s mudg ing, do not rub the printed side of the photo.
15 By pressing the Zoom button, you can crop and enlarge a section of your pho to (see page 16). By pressing the Menu button, you can: ● Choose from a variety of layouts (see page 1 7) ● Remove re.
16 Zooming and Cropping Y ou can print just par t of a photo, croppi ng out the area that you don’t want. The part you keep is automatically enlarged to fit the layout. Cropping af fects only your printed photo, not your original image. 1 Select the photo you want to crop.
17 Choosing a Layout By default, your photos are printed at the full 4 × 6 size, without borde rs. If you want to prin t pictures with white borders or place several small pho tos on one sheet of paper , you can use the Layout menu to change the layout.
18 Note: Your p hotos will b e cropped t o fit in s ome layouts. For the fastest prin ting, select Border . When you print wit hout borders, your images are automatically ex panded and croppe d around the edge s. This may cause part o f your image to be cut o ff.
19 Fixing Photos PictureMate l ets you correc t the color and improve the image quality of your photos without usi ng a computer . T wo types of adjustments are available: ● Automatic adjustments The Enhance setting, which is selected by default, improves your photos’ colors and increases contrast and sharpness.
20 4 Press u or d to highlight o ne of the following options: ● Enhance: This setting improves your photo s’ colors and increases co ntrast and sharpness. It may correct images that are too dark, too bright, or backlit. ( Enhance is the default setting.
21 4 Press u or d to highlight Brightness , Saturation , or Sharpness , then press OK . Y ou see your photo next to the menu: 5 Press u or d to increase or d ecrease the setting. Y ou can see the changes on your photo . 6 When the photo looks good, press OK .
22 1 Press Menu . 2 Press u or d to highlight Print Set tings , then press OK . 3 Press u or d to highlight Expansion , then press OK . Y ou can select MA X , MID , or MIN . 4 Press u or d to select MIN and reduce the amount of expansion. Then press OK .
23 Decorating Photos Y ou can add fun and festive decorations to your photos from PictureMate’s built-i n clipar t collection. Y ou can add up to four de corations to each pho to. 1 Select a photo that you want to decorate. 2 Press Menu . 3 Press u or d to highlight Edit , then press OK .
24 Adding Camera Text If your camera allows you to add text to your photos, you can print the pictures along with th e text. This setting is available for borderless photos only. 1 Select the photos that have text added by your camera. 2 Press Menu . 3 Press u or d to highlight Print Set tings , then press OK .
25 PictureMate Zoom can make backup copies of the photos on your camera’s memory card by saving them to a CD in its built-in CD burner . With PictureMate Dash, you can connect an external CD burner . See the on-screen User’s Guide for instructions.
26 3 Press the CD eject button to open the tray , then gently pull it out all the way . 4 Place a CD on the tray and carefully press it down over the hub. 5 Gently push the tray back in. The light on the front of the tray flashes, indicating that the CD is being read.
27 11 Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the backup. The CD is ej ected automatically when the backup is finished. Each time you copy photos to the same CD, PictureMate creates a new numbered folder (001 , 002, etc.) where it stores yo ur photos.
28 PictureMate can pri nt photos stored on a: ● PictBridge- or USB DI R ECT -P RI NT-enabled digital camera (this page) ● USB-connected external drive, such as a CD drive, Zip drive, or flash memo.
29 4 Connect your camera’s U SB cable to your camera and the EXT . I/F por t on the back of PictureMate. 5 Use your camera’s controls to select and print photos on PictureMate. (See your camera manual for instructio ns.) 6 If you need to adjust any print s ettings, press Menu, select Setup, and then select Direct Print Settings.
30 3 Connect your CD or Zip drive’s U SB cable, or plug in your flash memory drive, to the EXT . I/F port on the back of PictureMate. 4 For a CD or Zip drive, insert a CD or Zip disk with photos into the drive.
31 2 Plug the adapter all the way into the EXT . I/F port on the back o f PictureMate. 3 Make sure you are within about 30 feet of PictureMate. 4 Select the photo you want to print from your Bluetooth device and send it to P ictureMate: ● Windows : ® Send photos directly to PictureMate with your Bl uetooth file sharing program.
32 Disconnecting the Ad apter Make sure PictureMate is not printing, then pull th e adapter out of its port. Caution: Do not connect or disconnect the Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter wh ile it is communi cating with yo ur device or while Pictur eMate is printi ng; this may cause PictureMate to malfunction.
33 4 Gently push the tray back in. The light on the front of the tray flashes, indicating that the CD or DVD is being read. If you also have a memory card already inser ted in PictureMate Zoom, you must either remove the card or select the CD drive as the source to see any photos on the CD or DVD.
34 T o use PictureMate with your computer, you must first: ● Install the PictureMate software on your computer from the PictureMate CD as descri bed here. ● Connect PictureMate to your computer with a U SB cable. If you don ’t have a USB cable, you can buy one from your local computer dealer or from Epson.
35 Note: If you see a Found Ne w Hardware screen, click Cancel and disconnect Pictu reMate from your com puter. 3 Insert the PictureMate CD in your CD/DVD drive. 4 With W i ndows Vi sta, you see this screen: Click the option to run RUNEPS ON. exe , then click Continue at the User Account Control screen.
36 After a moment, you see this screen: 8 Connect the USB cab le to any open USB por t on your computer. T he n connect the other en d to the USB por t on the back of Picture Mate. The installer installs your PictureMate software. Note: If you see a screen like th is one, remove your memory card and click the X in the corner to close it.
37 9 If you see the screen bel ow , click No (unless PictureMate is your only printer). Note: With Windows Vista, PictureMate is automati cally set as your default print er. If you have another printer, you can change t his setting in t he Windows Control Panel.
38 3 T urn on your Macintos h. 4 After the Macintosh starts up, inser t the PictureMate CD in your CD -ROM or DVD drive. 5 Double-click the EPSON PictureMat e icon. 6 Read the license ag reement and click Agree . Y ou see the Instal l Menu: 7 Click Install Printer Driver , then follo w the on- screen instructions to install th e driver .
39 16 In OS X 1 0.4, select your PictureMate model. (In O S X 10 . 2 o r 10 . 3 , s e l e c t EPS ON USB at the top and your PictureMat e model below .) 17 Click Add , then quit the Printer Setup Utility (or Print Center). Now you can print photos from your Ma cintosh on PictureMate.
40 Printing with the Wi ndows Vista Photo Gallery 1 Locate the photo you want to print on your computer. 2 Right-click the photo, highlight Open With , and select Windows P hoto Gallery . 3 Click the Pri nt icon at the top of the screen, then select Print from the drop-down menu that appears.
41 Y ou see the prin ter settings window: 6 Choose from the fo llowing settings: ● Select Borderless to print a photo without borders. Select Borders to print with a white border all around. ● Borderless prints are automatically expanded. If too much of your photo edges are cut of f , set the Expansion slider to Min .
42 7 Click OK . 8 When you return to the Windows Photo Gallery , click Print to start printing. During printing, this window appea rs on your computer screen show ing the progress of your print job. Y ou can cancel, paus e, or resume printing, and view your Print Pack status.
43 5 When you see this screen, select the p hoto(s) you want to print and clic k Next . 6 When you see this screen, select your EPSON PictureMate model and click Printing Preferences .
44 Y ou see the prin te r settings screen: 7 Choose from the fo llowing settings: ● Select Borderless to print a photo without borders. Select Borders to print with a white border all around. ● Borderless prints are automatically expanded. If too much of your photo edges are cut of f , set the Expansion slider to Min .
45 8 Click OK . 9 At the Photo Printing Wizard screen, click Next . 10 When you see this screen, select Full page photo print and click Next . During printing, this window appears on your computer screen showing the prog ress of your print job. Y ou can cancel, pause, or resume pri nting, and see your Print Pack status.
46 Printing F rom a Macintosh Y ou can print yo ur photos from any Macintosh imag ing application. 1 Start your print program and open the photo you want to p rint. 2 From the File menu, select Page Setup . 3 Select your PictureMate model from the Format for menu.
47 8 Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu. Tip: To check your Print Pack status, click the maintenance icon. For more information about printer settings, click ? . 9 Choose from the fo llowing settings: ● Select Enhance Fine Details to bring out the fine details of a par ticularly intricate photo (printing may be slower).
48 12 T o monitor the prog ress of your print job, click the PictureMate or Print Cent er icon when it appears in the dock. If you clicked the P rint Ce nter icon, double-cli ck your PictureMate model. 13 From this window , you can do the following: ● T o cancel pri nting, click the prin t job and click Delete .
49 When PictureMate needs a new Print Pack, you will see a message on the photo viewer screen. The Print Pack contains a new photo car tridge and pho to paper.
50 Replacing the Print Pack Make sure you have a new PictureMate 200 Seri es Print Pack before you remove the old photo cartridge. Once you remove the car tri dge, you must install the new one right away . Caution: Before y ou replace the cartridge, read the “Photo Cartridge Safety Instructions” on page 71.
51 4 Pull out the cartrid ge and dispose of it properl y . (For appropriate disposal, check local resources for recycling guidelines.) Warning: Keep photo cartridg es out of the reach of children and do no t drink the ink. If ink gets on your hand s, wash them thoroughly with soap and water.
52 7 Slide the lever all the way right, to the Lock position. Caution: If the cartridge is not inserted co rrectly, PictureMate will n ot be able to print . 8 Close the cartridge door all the way . Checking Prin t Pack Status Y ou can check th e status of your Pri nt Pack at any time.
53 PictureMate’s han dle makes it easy to carry short distances. If yo u have the optional battery, you can use PictureMate just about anywhere, even if an electrical outlet is not available. Tip: You can order an optional Pic tureMate Carrying Case (part number PMBAG06 ) from Epson.
54 Using the Optional Batte ry T o buy the op tional ba ttery , check with your PictureMate retailer or go to www .MyPictureMate.com. See page 68 for more information on purchasing PictureMate s upplies and acc essories.
55 The power light flashes during charging when PictureMate is off . It takes about 2 hours to fully c harge the battery when PictureMate is off . It takes longer when you use PictureMate while it is charg ing. The power light turns off when th e battery is fully charged (if PictureMate is turned off).
56 Y ou can change the way PictureMate works by us ing the Setup menu. Y ou can set the following prefer ences: ● T urn the print prev iew screen off or on (o n the right) ● T urn on a confirmati .
57 3 Press u or d to highlight Confirm Print Preview , then press OK . 4 Press u or d to choose Off or On , then press OK . Turning the Setting s Confirmation On or Off After you use the menu to change a print setting, PictureMate exits the menu.
58 Making Direct Came ra Print Settings When you print directly from your camera, you can’t select settings the way you can when you prin t from a memory card. Instead, you can use the Direct Print Settings on the Setup Menu. 1 Press Menu . 2 Press u or d to highlight Setup , then press OK .
59 6 Repeat step 5 until you have entered a 4-digit number to use as your Bluetoo th Passkey . Then press OK . 7 At the confirmation screen, press OK again. The pas skey will be required if your Bl uetooth Communication Mode is set to Pairing, or if Encryption is enabled.
60 If you have problems with yo ur PictureMate, o r you want to improve print quality, read these sections: ● Cleaning the print head (on the right) ● Aligning the print head (on page 62) ● Clea.
61 Y ou see a confirmation screen: 5 Press OK again to clean the print head. Cleaning takes about 60 seconds. PictureMate makes some noise and you see an Auto Cleani ng message. When cleaning is complete, PictureMate prints a nozzle check pattern and di splays this screen: 6 Check the pattern to see if there are any gaps or missing lin es.
62 Aligning the Print Head If you have moved PictureMate and print quality is not as good as it used to be—if your pri nts look fuzzy or have light or dark lines running through them— you may need to align the print head. 1 Load paper in PictureMate so you can prin t the head alignment pattern.
63 8 Press u or d to highlight the number fo r the best square ( 1 to 9 ) in set #2. Then press OK . PictureMate aligns the print head and exits the Maintenance menu. Note: The square you select becomes the mid dle square (#5) the next time you align the pri nt head.
64 The photo viewer screen goes blank. The screen shuts off after 13 minutes if PictureMate is not used. Pr ess any button to turn it back on. PictureMate makes an unex pect ed noise after you install a photo cartridge. The first time you install the photo car tridge, PictureMate charges its print head for about three minutes.
65 Printing is too slow . ● It takes a few moments for PictureMate to process your images before printing th em. ● If PictureMate is in a hot or sunny l ocation, move it to a cooler place and try printing again. For faster printing, try these t ips: ● Don’t print more than 40 pictu res at a time.
66 ● Make sure your paper isn’t damp or curled, or loaded face down (load it glossy or whiter side up). If it’s damp or curled, load a new stack of paper . ● Remove each photo from the output tray after printing. Let each photo sit for a minute before handling it.
67 If paper loads incorrectly or jams frequently: ● Use new paper loaded with the glossy or whiter side up, and separate the sheets s lightly . ● Load a maximum of 20 sheets. ● Make sure your paper is beneath the arrow on the edge guides. ● Don’t load plain paper; this may da mage PictureMate.

69 Important Safety Instructions Before using your PictureMate, read the fo llowing safety instructions to make sur e you use it safely and effectively: ● Be sure to follow all warnings a nd instructions marked on the printer .
70 ● Avoid places su bject to dust, shock, or vibration. ● Leave enough room around the printer to al low for sufficient ventilation. ● Place the A C adapter near a wall outlet w here the plug can be easily unplugged. ● Do not place or store the printer , the AC adapter , or the optional battery outdoors.

72 Photo Viewer Screen Safety Instructions ● The screen contains a few small bri ght or dark spots. These are normal and do not mean that the screen is damaged in any way . ● Only use a dry , soft cloth to clean the screen. Do not use liquid or chemical cleansers.
73 ● Charge the battery before using it if it has not been used for a long period. ● When not usi ng the printer for a long period of time, remove the battery from the printer and store it separatel y to avoid over-discharging the battery . ● Do not store the battery where the temperature or humidity is very high.

The number of sheets of photo paper in your PictureMate Print Pack is st ated on the Print P ack’s box.
