10 Assembling and Conn ecting the Pr inter Loading P aper Follo w t he ste ps be low to loa d pap er in to the MP (Mu lti Pur pose) tray: 1. Insert the MP t ray into the slot at the f ront of t he printer and push it all th e way in.
Assemblin g and Connecting t he Printer 11 2. Fan a stack of paper (u p to 150 sheets) , and al ign the edg es by tapping t he stack on a f lat surf ace. Wit h the pape r’s prin table side facing upwar d, place t he stack into the tra y. Slide the paper gui des against the sid es of the stack.

Assemblin g and Connecting t he Printer 13 Note: The printer’s default paper size setting is A 4 or Letter, depend ing on the country of purchase. If you are printing on a different paper size from the default, you need to change the printer’s Paper Size setting in the printer driver.

(The end that fits the prin ter has a diffe rent shape from t he end that fi ts th e computer.) 2. Connect the ot her end of the cable to t he computer’ s USB port.

Lift t he printer and alig n the pins on th e ca ssett e un it wi th th e ho les on the bo tto m of th e prin ter . Then , low er t he pr inter un til it re sts secur ely on th e cassette unit.
20 Instal ling the Options Face-up Tra y The print er normal ly output s paper fa ce-down on t op of the printer. If y ou want face -up outp ut, you can install the opt ional Face-up Tr ay (C8133 7 ✽ ).

22 Instal ling the Options Note: The printer is factory set for face-down output. To output onto the optional Face-up Tray, push down the paper path selector at the rear right of the printer, as shown in the illustration below.

24 Instal ling the Options 3. Face the right sid e of the pr inter, and using a c rosshead screwdr iver, remove the two screws hold ing the side cover in place. Pul l the side co ver off toward yo u. Note: Be careful to avoid dropping screws into the printer when removing them.

M ake sure that the clips are open (l eaning away from the slot). w Warni ng: Avoid touching the electrical components that are exposed after you remove the side cover.
26 Instal ling the Options 5. Inse rt and pus h the DI MM fi rmly in to the sl ot, bu t without forcing it. Be sur e that the ends of th e DIMM enga ge the cli ps, so that the clips click cl osed over the ends as the DIMM snaps into pla ce.

When you finish i nstalling the option, pl ug in the power cable and reconnect the int erface cab les befor e turning t he pri nter on. Installing th e Printer Driv er 35 4 Installing the Printer D river The printer driver is provid ed on the “E PSON EPL-580 0 Print er Software” CD-R OM shipped wi th your printer . It gives y ou control ov er your p rinter wi th Microsoft Windows Me/20 00/98/ 95/3.

If a dialog box appears asking whether you wish to restart your computer, click Yes . After restarting the computer, you need to check your printer port configuration.

40 Installi ng the Prin ter Driv er 3. In Windows M e or 9 8, click the Detai ls tab and make sure that EPUSB1: (EPSON EPL -5800) is displa yed in the Prin t to th e following p ort li st box. In Windows 2000 , click Po rts tab and make sure that USB00 1 is selected.

While m any Windows appl ications overr ide the pr inter set tings made in the printer driv er when it is access ed direc tly fro m the opera ting system, some do not.
