6 Setting Up the Document Camera Unpacking th e Docume nt Camera After unpack ing the do cument cam era, make su re you have all the items s how n belo w: Save all packaging i n case you need to ship the document camera. Always use the original packaging (or the equivalent) when yo u need to send the docu ment camera to anoth er location.
Setting Up the Document Camera 7 Installing Batteries in the Remote Co ntrol Before using the re mote contr ol, you need to install i ts batte ries as desc ribe d below . 1. Pres s dow n on th e ridg ed area and remov e the battery compartment cover. 2.
8 Setting Up the Document Camera Unfolding the Documen t Camera Foll ow the s teps b elow t o un fold the doc umen t cam era . 1. Unfold th e first lighting unit arm (1) and then the seco nd (2) as shown unti l th ey stop .
Setting Up the Document Camera 9 2. Press the camera arm lock release button (3) and raise the camera arm (4) until the button returns to i ts original posi tion and you hear a click. Make sure the came ra arm is securely locked . 3. Rotate the c amera head so that th e lens faces the stage (downward ).
10 Setting Up the Document Camera Positioning th e Docume nt Camera Before conn ecting the do cument came ra, you need to decide where to place it. Wher ever you place i t, be sure to fol low these guidelines : ■ Place the document camera on a sturdy, level su rface.
Setting Up the Document Camera 11 Connecting to a Projector or Monit or You can connect the document camera to any projector or monitor that has a standar d RGB vid eo, c omposit e vide o, or S-Vide o input port. EPSON projecto rs suppor t all three connections.

Setting Up the Document Camera 13 Adjusting the Camera Head Swi tches The gamma selec tion sw itch ad justs the o utput c olor to m atch the device connecte d to the RGB OUT port. Set the switch to OFF when connected to a project or or ON when connected to a monitor.
14 Setting Up the Document Camera Connecting t o a Co mputer In addition to using the s tage for your pr esentation material, you ca n connect up to two devi ces that hav e RGB vi deo ou tput ports, s uch as a lapt op and deskt op com puter . This is espe cially usef ul if your pro jector has o nly on e input port .
2 Using the Document Camera 15 Using the Document Camera O nce you have set up the doc ument camera, you ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your presentation.
16 Using the D ocument Came ra Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your document camera and other e quipment are set up and connected correctly, as described in C hapter 1. Always turn on your projector o r monitor fi rst. Then tu rn on your docu ment camera, as descri bed b elow , foll owed by any other equipm en t you ’ ve c onnec ted to it.
Using the Document Camera 17 4. Turn on the do cument camera. After a few moments, the Ma in and Upper indicator lights on the control panel and the upper lamps turn on. 5. Place your presentati on material on the stage. Yo u should see an image o n scre en.
18 Using the D ocument Came ra What To Do If You See a Blank Screen If an image doesn ’ t appear, try the following: ■ Make sure the c ables are conne cted correc tly, as descr ibed on page 11 fo r a proje ctor or moni tor or page 14 fo r a compu ter.
Using the Document Camera 19 Adjusting the Ligh ting If you are presenti ng printed mater ial or 3-D objec ts, the two upp er lamps will provide ample light. If the ambient lighting in the room i s suffic ient, howeve r, you may o btain a bette r image with the uppe r lamps off.
20 Using the D ocument Came ra Adjusting the Im age Once you se e you r ima ge, yo u ma y ne ed to m ake c erta in ad justme nts: ■ To zoom or focus your image, see the next secti on. ■ If the image is too high or too low, you can reposi tion it. If the image is too large or too small, yo u can resize it.
Using the Document Camera 21 Adjusting the Image Posi tion and Size If you are displaying a computer image usi ng the Video or S-Video output port, yo u ca n adj ust it s positi on and size . To adjust the image positio n, use the Position arrow buttons on the remot e contro l.
22 Using the D ocument Came ra Adjusting the Brightness The do cum ent camer a is init iall y set to auto iris . When usi ng the camer a, you can manua lly adju st the ir is to cont rol the amount of light that reaches the lens. If the screen looks dark, press the Open button to open the iris so that more light reache s the lens.
Using the Document Camera 23 Turning Off and Storing the Documen t Ca mera When you ’ ve finishe d using the do cument camer a, follow these steps to turn off and store it. If you ’ re using a monito r or pr ojecto r, sh ut it down l ast. 1. Turn off t he document camera.
24 Using the D ocument Came ra 5. Hold the camera arm and press the c amera arm release butto n (1). Then fold down the camera arm (2) . 6. Fold d own the first lighting unit arm (3) and then the second ( 4). Store the ca mera as shown. caution Be car eful not t o let the camera arm drop, or you may damag e it.

All you need to d o on a regular ba sis is keep t he lense s and stage clean. Any d irt or sm ears on the lenses or stage may sho w up on your p resented im age.
26 Maintaining and Transporting the Do cument Camera Cleaning the Lenses Clean the le nses whenev er you notice dirt or dus t on the surfac e. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lense s, use lens -cleaning pap er.
Maintaining and Transporting the Document Camera 27 Cleaning the Document C amera Case Before you c lean th e case , first turn off th e docu men t came ra an d unplug the power cord. ■ To remove dirt or dust, wipe the case with a soft, dry, lint-free clo th.

If you need to transp ort it, follow th ese packing guid elines to prevent damage to the document camera: ■ Make sure to turn off and f old the document camera as des cribed on pag e 23.

30 Solv in g Prob lem s Solving Problems with the Image No image appears on the screen. ■ Check that all c ables are prop erly conne cted (see Chapter 1 ) and everything is turne d on. ■ Make sure the proje ctor or computer is not i n sleep mode .
Solving Problems 31 ■ The prese ntation mate rial may be too far fro m the lens. Flip d own the close-up lens. ■ Make sure there is no cond ensation on th e lenses . You may need to wait before using the document camera after moving i t from a cold environment to a wa rm environment.
32 Solv in g Prob lem s Solving Problems with the Remote Co ntrol ■ Make sure you are within 23 feet (7 m) of the document camera, and w ithin ra nge of th e docum ent came ra ’ s fro nt or ba ck se nso r (approxi mately 3 0 ° to the left or right and 15 ° above or below).
