8 Copying a Photo or Docume nt If you need to copy or scan a thick or large do cument, you can r emove the document c ov er . J ust open it and pull i t straight up. If you need to press the document flat while you copy or scan it, do not press too ha rd an d b e c a ref ul n o t to move it .

Cleaning the Print Head 33 Cleaning th e Print Head If your pri ntouts are unexpectedly light or faint, or you notice light or dark bands across your printout, you may need to clean the print head. This unclogs the nozzles so they can deliver ink properly .

Replacing Ink Cartridges 35 Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure you have a new ink cartri dge be fore you begin. Once you start replacing a cartri dge, y ou must co mplete all the steps in o ne se ssion. Caution: Do not ope n ink ca rtridge pa c kages until y ou are re ady to in stall the ink.

P ress the B ink button again. ■ If more than one cartr idge is low or exp ended, the nex t cartridg e moves to the _ expended ink mark. ■ Once the CX5 000 Series identifi es all of the low o r expended ink cartri dges, the print head moves to the ink cartrid ge replacem ent position.

Replacing Ink Cartridges 39 13. P ress the B ink button. The CX5000 Se ries begins charging ink and the On light starts f lashing. This takes abou t one minute. Whe n it’ s finished, the On light s tops flash ing and r emains on, and the B ink light goes out.

Error Indicators 41 b Error : Flashing Memory Card (all 3 light s) : Flashing 1 An unsupported memory card is inserted. Remove the incompatible memory card; see page 13. The inserted memory card does not contain any valid images. See page 13 for a list of compatible card and image types.
