1 Safety Instructions Important Safety Instructions Read all o f the i nstr uctio ns i n this se ctio n befo re us ing yo ur printer. Also, be sur e to follow all warnings and instruc tions marked on the p rinter.
2 ❏ If yo u us e an e xte nsio n c ord w ith the p rint er, m ak e su re th at the total ampere rati ng of the dev ices plugged i nto the extension cord does not exceed the cord ’ s ampere rati ng. Also, make sure that the t otal ampere rating of a ll devi ces plugged into the wall outlet does not exceed the wall outlet ’ s am per e rating.
3 ❏ Leave enough ro om around th e printer to all ow for suffi cient ventilat ion. ❏ Place th e printer near a wall outl et where the plug can be easily unpl ugged. When using the pr inter Observe the fo llowing when us ing the prin ter: ❏ Do not insert ob jects through the slots in the print er ’ s cabinet.
4 ❏ The handli ng method varies dep ending on the stor age media. Be sur e to refer to the docu men tatio n pac kag ed wi th you r memory car d and PC card adapter for detail s. ❏ You can only use memory cards and PC card adapters that are based on PCMCI A ATA standards (Memory Card ATA standar ds) with thi s printe r.
5 ❏ Keep ink cartridges o ut of the reach of childr en. Do not all ow chi ldren to dr ink fr om or oth erwi se ha nd le the cart ridg es. ❏ Be careful when yo u handle used ink car tridges, as there may be some ink remaining around the ink supp ly port.
6 ❏ If you r emove an ink ca rtridg e for later u se, prote ct the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the printer. A v alve in the ink sup ply port makes covers or plugs unnecessar y, but the ink may stain ite ms th at come in con tac t wi th th is area of th e car tri dge .

11 Using Roll Paper Using the Roll Paper Holder With the roll pap er holder mounted on the printer , you can print in roll paper format, which is conv enient for banner pr inting. When you are p rinting using the roll p aper holder, k eep the follo wing in min d: ❏ Load the pap er pri ntabl e sid e up .
12 1. Load rol l paper i n the roll paper hold er. Note: Remove the transparent sheet after setting the roll paper into the holders. 2. Check that t he end of the rol l is cut p erpendicular ly to the edges as shown, using a triangle.
13 c Caution: Always use a triangle or other tool to ensure that the end of the roll is cut perpendicularly. A diagonal cut may cause paper feed problems. 3. To flatten t he roll paper , place it printable-side up between the pages of the instruct ion bookl et packaged wi th the roll paper to p rotect it.
14 5. Insert the roll p aper hold er adapter in to the slot at the re ar of the print er, then att ach the roll paper holder to the adap ter. 6. Gently in sert the end of the paper into the print ers as f ar as it will go, flush with the right e dge guide.
15 8. O pe n the pr int er co ver an d mak e su re tha t th e pap er is feeding correctl y. If it is not straight, p ress the z roll paper button for at least three seconds to eje ct the paper. The error light comes on. Press the z roll pap er b utt on t o cle ar th e err or, then feed t he paper again.
16 2. When printing is finished, pr ess the z rol l paper butt on onc e to pri nt a cutt ing guidel ine about 12 mm fro m the bott om of the pr int data. 3. To print the next pri nt job, pres s the z roll pap er bu tton to feed the pap er back to the p rinting pos ition.
17 Note: The top margin is automatically set to 20 mm , regardless of the margin setting. Removing Roll Paper from the Printer Follow the di rections below to remov e the paper fr om the printer . 1. Press the z roll p aper butt on to feed the pa pe r.
18 3. Once you hav e cut the pap er, hold do wn the z roll pape r butto n for a bout 3 sec onds. The p aper fe eds in rev erse t o a position where it can be easil y removed from the sheet feeder at the bac k of the printer. If i t does not feed to thi s position, repeat thi s step.
19 Printing Photos Directly from PC Cards Available M edia Types The type and qu ality of media de termi nes the finish of your pr ints. Be sure t o read the fol lowing info rmation and select the correct paper fo r your needs . Note: ❏ You should always print at n ormal room temperature and humidity: 15 to 25°C (59 t o 77°F) and 40 to 60% RH.
20 Note: ❏ More media types and sizes are available when you print images from a computer with the EPSON Stylus Photo 915 printer software. ❏ The availability of special media varies by country. For the latest information on available media, visit our regional customer service web site.
21 About cleaning sh eets The cleaning sheet packaged wit h some special types of medi a cannot be used with the paper f eeding mechanism in thi s printer.
22 Loading Paper Loading sheet paper This sec tion ap plies t o the follo wing p aper t ypes: Plain Pape r Premium Ink Jet Pla in Paper Brig ht Whit e Ink Je t Paper Photo Paper Matte Paper-Heav yweight Premium Glossy P hoto Paper Note: Read all instruction sheets packed with your EPSON special media before loading it in the printer.
23 2. Fan a stack of paper; th en tap it on a fl at surface to even the edges. 3. With the p rintabl e side up, load the p aper so it is aga inst the right edge gui de, and slide it into the sheet feede r.
24 4. Slide the left edge gu ide against the paper. Note: Be sure to make the left edge guide flush against the paper or the paper will not feed properly into the printer. Loading EPSON Photo Stickers 16 To load EPSON Photo Stickers 1 6, follow the st eps below.
25 Always load o ne sheet at a time i n the feeder with t he cut corner on the upper rig ht side. 2. Slide the left e dge guide against the edge of the media. Note: Set the l eft edge gui de flush against the m edia or the m edia w ill not feed properly into the printer.

29 Ejectin g PC cards 1. Check that the Processing li ght is not fl ashing. 2. Press the button a s shown to eject the PC c ard. c Caution: ❏ Do not remove or insert CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Microdrive or SD memory card while the PC card adapter is in the slot.
30 3. The PC card wil l pop out far eno ugh for you to pull it out . Printing from the Control Panel This sect ion brief ly descri bes how t o print f rom a PC card us ing the pr inter ’ s contro l panel. Be sure to read and understand the instru ctions belo w before p rinting f rom a PC card .
31 Use the up a nd down arro w buttons to select menus. Use t he right and left ar row bu tto ns to s elec t indi vidu al settings. Note: The photo numbering order may differ from your digital camera ’ s settings. Always check the photo numbering by prin ting an Index.
32 Cancelling printing To stop printing in progr ess, pr ess Ca ncel butt on. T he p rin ter will cancel al l print jobs and st op printing, and eject any pages which is pr inting. Depend ing on the pri nter ’ s status, printing may not stop i mmediately.
33 Display This section exp lains the Print Mode, Pa per Type, Paper Size, Layout, Select Photo, Selec t Copies, Quali ty, and Photo Enhance settings. 1. Print Mode This selects the printing method. Print al l photograp hs on the PC card. Print an index of all photographs on a P C card.
34 2. Pape r Type This se lects th e typ e of p aper to prin t on. When you want to print on Premium Glossy Phot o Paper, move cursor to Paper Type, then pres s the right arrow button for thr ee seconds. “ Pr ” flashes o n the Select Photo menu, and now y ou can print on the Pr emium Glossy Photo Paper.
35 Note: Do not select A4 or 100 × 150 mm sheet p aper for the Paper Size setting when roll paper is loaded in the sheet feeder. Doing so causes unnecessary paper to be fed after each print job. If you have already started printing, press the Cancel button.

37 7. Quality This sel ects t he pho to print qual ity. Note: The Quality settings available depend on the Paper Type setting. 8. PhotoEnhance Turns image enhan cement on and off. Printing All Photographs on a PC Card You can print a specified nu mber of copies of all of the photograph s on a PC card.
38 1. Select ALL as the Pri nt Mo de se tting . 2. Select the Pa per Type that is loaded in the sheet feeder. The exampl e below shows printing on E PSON photo paper . 3. Select the Pa per Size tha t is loaded in th e sheet feeder. The example below sho ws printing on A4-si ze paper.

43 Printing Multiple Selected Photos It is possibl e to specify t he photo number and the number of copies for each photo be fore start p rinting. This function p rints pho tos i n t he o rde r th at yo u s pec ified on the dis play o r w ith the optional Preview Monitor .
44 4. Specify the nu mber of the phot o you want to p rint. The example belo w shows photo number 2. S pecify 0 as the number of phot os to leave the print area blank. 5. Specify the nu mber of copies for t he photo you selected i n step 4. 6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 to select photos and specify the number of copi es for each.
45 Printing with the DPOF setting This p rin ter c onfor ms to DPOF (Dig ital P rint O rde r Form at) vers io n 1.1 0. D POF l ets you set t he ph oto num ber s and the number of co pies for photos on t he digital c amera before yo u pri nt. T o cre ate DP OF data, you must u se a digi tal ca mera th at supports DPOF.
46 Expanded Layout Options There are expan ded layout opt ions availab le for printing Sti ckers, Multi-siz ed photos, and Panoramic Layou t Photos. Printing stickers You can print photographs dire ctly from PC car d on EPSON Photo Stic kers 16. 1. Load EPSO N Photo Stic kers 16 in th e sheet feeder.

53 2. Specify the photo number and the number of copies tha t you want to print, when One or Set is selected for the Print Mode setting. 3. Press and hold the Br ight ness button f or three second s.
54 7. When yo u select All or Set f or the Prin t Mode s etting, re peat the steps 3 to 5 to make filt er settings for each phot ograph. To clear the ea ch filter setting, sel ect 0 (No effect) for the filter number. To clear all of filter settings, press the Cancel button .
55 The numbers corr espond to the brightne ss effects as shown belo w. 4. Press the Brightness button to select the setting. The Bri ghtnes s icon stops flashing. 5. Press the Star t butt on to star t pri nting . Note: The effect of the Brightness feature is the same as the filter eff ects of the same name.

59 w Warni ng: ❏ Keep ink cartridges out of t he reach of children. Do not allow children to drink from or otherwise handle the cartridges. ❏ Be careful when you handle the used ink cartridges, as there may be some ink around the ink supply port. If ink g ets on your skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.
60 ❏ If you replace the ink cartridges while the roll paper is loaded , the media may be smeared. For mor e informati on about ink cartrid ges, see “ When handling the i nk ca rtri dges ” on page 4. 1. Make sur e that the prin ter is on , but not p rinting, then o pen the pr inter cover .
61 4. Remove the new i nk cartri dge from its prot ective bag an d then only p eel off the yello w tape seal. Do not to uch the green IC c hip on the s ide o f the c art ridg e.
62 c Caution: ❏ You must remove the yellow tape seal from the cartridge before installing it, or the cartridge will b ecome unusable and y ou wi ll be un able to pri nt. ❏ If you have installed an ink cartridge without removing the yellow tape seal, you must remove the cartridge and install a new one.

64 Maintenance Checking the Print Head Nozzles If you find that the pri nted image is unexpectedl y faint or dots in the print ed image are missing, you may be ab le to identi fy the problem by ch ecking the pr int head nozzl es. Follow th e steps below t o check the print head nozzles using t he control p anel buttons.
65 The printer will print an operation ch eck page that includes your printe r ’ s ROM vers ion info rmation, the ink count er code, ink levels, and a nozzle check patter n. To check the black remaining ink le vels, se e BK. Fo r col or ink levels, se e CL.
66 Note: ❏ Print head cleaning uses both color an d black ink. To avoid wastin g ink, cl ean the pr int hea d only if print quality declin es (for exam ple, if the printout is blurry or the color is incorrect or missing) . ❏ Use the Nozzle Check utility first to confirm that the print head needs to be cleaned.
67 The printer wi ll start cleaning the print head and the pr ocess light wil l begin flashing. Pr int head cleaning t akes about thir ty se cond s to com plete . c Caution: Never turn off the printer while the Processing light is flashing. Doi ng so may damage the pri nter.

71 Troubleshooting Error Indicators and Display You c an id enti fy man y comm on pr int er pro blem s usi ng the li ght s or displa y on your pr inter ’ s contr ol panel. If the l ights are on or flashing, use the following t able of panel l ight patterns to diagnose the problem, then impl ement the recommended corrective measur es.

73 Display Problem Solution The bla ck ink cartridge is nea rly empty. Obtain a repl acement black i nk cartridge. The colo r ink cart ridge is nea rly emp ty. Obtain a repl acement color i nk cartridge. The bla ck ink cartridge is empt y. Replace t he b lack in k cart ridge with a new one.
74 Print Quality Problems Horizontal banding Try one or more of these solut ions: ❏ Make sure tha t the printable side of the paper i s face up in the sheet feeder. ❏ Run th e Head Cleanin g utility t o clear any clogged ink nozzles. See “ Cl eaning the Print Head ” on page 65.
75 Vertical misalignmen t or banding Try one or more of t hese solutions: ❏ Mak e su re th at th e pri ntabl e si de of the pape r i s face up in th e sheet feeder. ❏ Run the Head Cleaning util ity to clear a ny clogged ink nozzles. See “ Cle aning the Pri nt Head ” on page 65.
76 Incorr ect or m issing co lors Try one or more of these solut ions: ❏ Run the Head Cleaning uti lity. See “ Cleaning the Print Head ” on page 65. If colors are still incor rect or missing, rep lace the colo r in k cart ridg e. If th e pr oblem pe rsist s, re pla ce th e bla ck ink cartri dge.
77 ❏ If you are printi ng on glo ssy media, place a suppor t sheet ( or a sheet of plai n paper) bene ath the stack, or load only one she et at a t ime. ❏ When printi ng on thick media, set the adjus t lever to t he “ + ” positi on. ❏ Run the Hea d Cleaning ut ility.

79 Paper does not feed Remove the stac k of pape r and make sure of the followi ng: ❏ The paper i s not curled or creased. ❏ The paper i s not too old . See the instr uctions that came with the paper for more informa tion. ❏ The paper is not l oaded higher than the arr ow on the left edge guide.
80 ❏ Make sure tha t the left edge gui de is snug to the l eft edge of the pape r. ❏ Make sure t hat the paper is not curl ed or folded. If so , flatten it or c url it sligh tly towa rd the opp osite si de befo re lo adin g. ❏ Make sure that the posi tion of the adj ust le ver is ap prop ria te for the med ia type.
81 ❏ The left edge guide is adju sted to fit you r paper. ❏ The printer is o n a flat, stab le surface that extend s beyond the prin ter ba se in a ll dir ecti ons.
