1 Welcome! Your EPSON Stylus ® Color 777 or EPSON Stylus Co lor 777i printer is the i deal output device for ho me or ho me office printing. Wi th resolutions of up to 2880 by 720 dpi, you can print anythi ng from reports and re sumes to family phot os and greeting cards wi th great res ults.
2 Viewing Yo ur Electronic Printer Man ual Your printer software CD-ROM includes an electronic Reference Guide for your printer. The manual is in HTML format, so you need a bro wser—such as Microsoft ® Internet Explorer 3.0 or later o r Netscape Navigator ® 3.

5 Printing from Start to Finish Here’s what to do to print a basic document —such as a newsletter or photograph— from loadi ng the paper t o selecti ng prin t settin gs to cont rolling the print j ob.
6 If you’re printi ng on env elopes, s ee page 1 5 for l oading i nstruct ions. Opening the Printer Software After you op en your appl ication pro gram and create your documen t, you’re ready to select your prin ter software setting s. From the F ile menu , click Print .
7 Selecting Printer Software Settings Once you click Propert ies , you see your printer software Propertie s dialog box. The most important thing to remember is to set the correct Media Type for th e paper you’re using.

9 After a m oment , the Progres s Meter ap pears and sho ws the progress of your p rint j ob. You can use the buttons to cancel, pause, or restart printing. You can also see ho w much ink you have left. For more advanced p rinter setting s, see page 13.
10 Follow th ese gu idelin es when l oading pa per: ■ Load the printabl e side face up. It’s usually whiter or brig hter than the o ther side. ■ Load lett erhead o r prepri nted pape r into the printer top e dge first . ■ Don’t load pap er above the arrow on the left edge guide.
11 Selecting Printer Software Settings Now op en the File menu and cl ick Prin t . Yo u s ee the main p rinter s ettings dia log box for your appli cation (your dialog b ox may look slightly di fferent): The most important thing to remember is to set the correct Media Type for th e paper you’re using.
12 Controlling Printin g Once you’ve clicked Print , yo ur document begins printing. If you turned on background printing, yo u can select EPSON Monitor3 from the Applicati on menu at the righ t side of t he menu ba r to check th e progress of your print job.
13 Using PhotoEnh ance, Custom, and Advanced Settings When you’ re printing special p rojects, yo u can customi ze your printer s oftware settings, as described in these sections: ■ “Enhanci ng .
14 Using Custom Project Types Your printer softwa re includes custom proj ect types with preset printi ng option s. This lets you quickly sel ect the best set tings for your type of d ocument, or sele ct a color-matchin g method for your project. To access the project types, click Cust om , then click the Cus tom Settings lis t to open it .
15 Using Advanced Settin gs For maxi mum contro l over your project, you ca n customize yo ur print settings —such as Print Qual ity and Gamma —and use special effects. To access these setti ngs in your printer software, click Custo m and the n click t he Advanced button.
16 Using Special Papers How can you get the best-loo king photos, most vivid colors, and sharpest te xt? Always use EPS ON’s s pecia l ink jet pa pers. We’ve includ ed so me fr ee samp les i n th e EPSON Photo Quality Media Pack . Instructions for printing on the m are given belo w.
17 Selecting the Co rrect Media Type Your printer a utoma tically ad justs itse lf for the type of paper you select in your printer software. That’s why the Me dia Type setting is so im portan t. It tel ls your printe r what kind of pape r you’re using an d adjusts th e ink coverage accordingly.

21 Replacing an Ink Cartridge When th e b error light flashes, an ink cartrid ge is low on ink. This is a good tim e to make sure you h ave a new cartr idge.
22 To avoi d damaging the print er, neve r move t he print he ad by hand . You cann ot prin t if eit her ink cartridge is em pty. Lea ve the empt y cart ridge insta lled in the print er until y ou have obtain ed a rep lacement . Otherw ise the ink remaining in the p rint head nozzles ma y dry out .
23 3. The color cartridge is o n the right and the black is on the left. Pull up the ink cartridge clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder. 4. Lift the cartri dge out of the printer an d dispose of it carefull y. 5. Unwrap the new ink cartridge.
24 7. Press down the ink cartridge clamp until it locks i n plac e. 8. If you n eed to re place the othe r ink cartridge, repeat steps 3 through 7 before continuing with step 9. 9. Pres s th e e ink cartridge r eplacement button and close t he printer cover.

26 Transportin g the Printer If you move your p rinter some distance, you nee d to prepare it for t ransportation in its or iginal bo x or one o f a sim ilar size . Follow t hese st eps: To avoid damag e, always leave the ink ca rtridges ins talled whe n transp orting th e printer.

28 Diagnosing Printer Problems You can diag nose some problems by checking the printe r’s con trol panel lig hts, as described below, o r running a printer che ck, as described on page 29. Checking the Control P anel Lights Follow th e guidel ines belo w when you chec k the contro l panel li ghts.
29 Running a Prin ter Check You can run a pri nter check t o determ ine wheth er a problem co mes from th e printer itself o r some other s ource. Fo llow thes e steps : 1. Make sure both the printer and computer are turned off. 2. Disconnect the interface cable from the printer.
30 Problems and Solutions Below are some trouble shooti ng tips if y ou have any proble ms settin g up your p rinter, installi ng softwa re, getting good pri nt qual ity, feeding paper, or oth er problems. 34 Problems w ith Paper Feed ing Too many copies are printing. Make sure tha t neither the Co pies settin g in your prin ter software , nor th e Copies s etting in your applica tion is set for mu ltiple copies. Paper doesn’t eject fully or is wrinkled.
35 Miscellaneous P rintou t Problems The ma rgins are i ncorrect . ■ Make sure the paper settings in your printer software are correct for your paper si ze.
