10 Setting Up the Projector Positioning th e Projector Before con necting the pr ojector, y ou need to decide w here to plac e it. The loca tion you choose d epends on the si ze of t he room a nd what you are projecti ng. ■ Place the pr ojector o n a sturdy, le vel sur face, between 3.
Setting Up the Projector 11 If you place th e projecto r below the leve l of the sc reen, you ’ ll have to tilt it up by extend ing the feet as shown. Ti lting the p rojector upward causes the image to lose its square shape, but you can correct the disto rtion b y pressi ng the Keystone but ton as desc ribe d in the nex t cha pter .
12 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to a Laptop Computer You can connect the Pow erLite proje ctor to any compute r that has a standa rd vid eo outpu t (mon itor ) port, in cludi ng PC notebo ok and laptop com pute rs, M acin tosh P owe rBook s, and hand- hel d dev ices.

Setting Up the Projector 15 Connecting to Video Sources You ca n con nect a DVD pla yer, V CR, camc ord er, la ser di sc pla yer, digital came ra, or a ny other c ompa tible vi deo s ource to your projecto r. The projector supports NT SC, PAL, and SECAM, and automatically detects the vide o format .
16 Setting Up the Projector 3. Connect the AV cable to the left and right Audio jacks on the projector (i nsert the whi te plug into the L port and the r ed plug into the R po rt). 4. Connect the plugs at the other e nd of the cable to the audi o outpu t jack s on your v ideo sour ce.
2 Using the Projector 17 Using the Projector O nce you ’ ve set up the pr ojector, yo u ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your pr esentation. Although you ca n operate the p roject or without it , the remo te control lets you use additional fe atures.
18 Using the Projector Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your p rojector and other equipment ar e set up and connected correc tly, as desc ribed in Chapter 1 or Appendix A. Then turn on your projector, as described below, fol lowed by any equipment you ’ ve connecte d to it.
Using the Projector 19 4. Squeeze the lens cap tabs and remo ve the lens cap. 5. Press the red Power button on top of the proj ector. The power ligh t flashes gre en as the projec tor warm s up, and the projecti on lamp c omes o n in abou t 30 seco nds.

Using the Projector 21 If you ’ re using a PowerBook: You may need to set up your system to display on the proje ctor scree n as well as th e LCD sc reen. Follo w these steps: 1. From the Appl e menu, select Control Panels , then click Monitors and Sound.
22 Using the Projector If you ’ re using a PC laptop: ■ Hold do wn the Fn key and press the function key that lets you display on an external monitor. It may have an icon such as or it may be labelled CRT/LCD . Allow a few se co nds fo r the pro je cto r to sy nc u p af te r pr ess in g it .
Using the Projector 23 Focusing and Zooming You r Image Rotate the focus ri ng to sharpen the image. Use the tab to rotate the lens ring and red uce or enlarge the i mage. You can also change the image size by moving the projector closer to or farther aw ay from the screen .
24 Using the Projector Adjusting the Image Sha pe If the projected image isn ’ t squar e or has a “ keysto ne ” s h a p e , d o o n e o r more of the fo llowing: ■ If your image looks like or , you ’ ve placed the proj ector off to on e side of the screen , at an angle .

3 Using the Remote Control 27 Using the Remote Control T he remote co ntrol lets you access your projector ’ s feat ures from anywhere in the room — up to 30 feet away. You can use it to turn the projector on and off, zoom in on a portion of your image, and highlight your p resentation.
28 Using the Remote Control Turning On and Using the Remote Control Before using the remote c ontrol, y ou need to ins tall its b atter ies and turn it on as describ ed below. Installing Batteries Follow these steps to instal l or replac e the batter ies: 1.
Using the Remote Control 29 Using the Remote Contr ol When using th e remote control, s tand withi n 30 feet of the pro jector. Point the rem ote co ntrol eithe r at the front o r back of the projector or at the screen (the pr ojector ’ s front sensor can detect signals bounced off th e screen ).
30 Using the Remote Control Controlli ng the Picture and Soun d You can use the remote control to select your source, adjust the volume, temp orarily turn o ff the p icture and sound, fre eze the action, zoom i n on the pi cture, or d ispl ay a pic ture-in-p ictu re video imag e.
Using the Remote Control 31 Turning Off the Picture an d Sound You can use the A/V Mute button on the remo te control to turn off the image and sound and dar ken your screen. This is useful if yo u want to temporar ily re-dire ct your audience ’ s attentio n without the dist ractio n of a brigh t scr een.
32 Using the Remote Control Resizing the Image Som e co mp ute r im ag es n ee d t o be resi ze d to dis pl ay i n th e p roj ec tor ’ s native format — 1024 × 768 pixels. If only part of your computer image is displayed, you can corr ect it with the Resize button.
Using the Remote Control 33 3. When the window is located and s ized the way yo u want, press the Enter button. The menu disappears, and your video plays on the screen. 4. When you ’ re finished viewi ng the picture- in-pictur e, press the P in P button ag ain.
34 Using the Remote Control Using the Pointer You can use the pointer to ol to place an arrow anywhere on your screen . 1. To activate the pointe r too l, press button 1 on the remo te control. A yello w arrow appears in the upper le ft corn er of the sc reen.
Using the Remote Control 35 Drawing Horizontal and V ertical Lines You can draw horizontal or vertical lines on the screen t o underline or highlight your presentati on points. 1. To activate the line or marker to ol, press the 3 button on the remote cont rol.

Fine-tuning the Projector 43 Customizing the Highligh ting T ools The highlighting tools let you ad d pointers and other type s of annotations to yo ur image, as describe d on pages 33 to 36. You can use the Effe ct menu to cus tomiz e these tool s and set the c ursor spee d for high ligh ting .

When you see the message “ Do you use this image? ” se lect Yes and pre ss Enter . If you want to change the area selected, select No , press Ente r and repeat steps 4 through 6.
46 Fine-tuning the Projector To test your setting, pres s the A/V Mute button to d isplay your image. Press it again to turn off the image. Customizing Projec tor Features You can use the Setting menu to en able the projector ’ s po wer management syst em, adju st the image shape, and c ustomiz e several other f eature s.
Fine-tuning the Projector 47 ■ No-Signal Msg . Selects the s creen colo r and message to d isplay when the proje ctor is no t receiv ing a sig nal. Th e logo se tting di spla ys an image that you have transfe rred to the proj ector. See page 44 for instruc tions on transfe rring an image to use as the no-signal message.
48 Fine-tuning the Projector Setting Advanc ed Features You can use the Advanc ed menu to co nfigure the pro jector fo r rear projec tion or ce iling mount ing, and adj ust several other f eatures. 1. Press the Me nu button. 2. Use the Enter button to highlight Advanced .

Viewing Lamp Usage and Other Information Use the About menu to view inf ormation about the d isplay settings of your computer and the number o f hours the lamp has been used.
50 Fine-tuning the Projector Restoring the Default Sett ings The Reset All op tion lets you retur n all the project or settings to thei r defau lt valu es. Select Reset Al l and press the Enter button on the remote control to display the confir mation sc reen.
5 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 51 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector Y our projector needs little maintenance. All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. Any di rt or smears on the lens may show up on your projec ted im age.
52 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Cleaning the Lens Clean the le ns whenever you notice dirt o r dust on the surface. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use lens-cleaning paper.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 53 Cleaning and Re placing the A ir Filter Clean the ai r filter on to p of the proj ector after eve ry 100 hours of use. If it is not cl eaned periodically, it can b ecome clogged with dust, preventing proper ventilation.
54 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector 4. If you need to repl ace the filter, us e a small screw driver to pry it off. 5. To install the new fi lter, fi rst ins ert the t ab, then p ress down until it clic ks in pl ace. Replacing the Lamp The projecti on lamp typically lasts fo r about 1000 hours of use.

60 Solv in g Prob lem s The temperature light is flashing orange. ■ The projec tor is too hot. Make s ure the room temperature do es not exceed 104 ° F and there is plenty of space around and under the projec tor for ve ntilation. ■ The air filter may be clogged.
