Setting Up the Projector 13 Setting Up the Projector Follow the in structi ons in this section to cho ose a location for the pro jector, connec t the cables, and di splay an image. Choosing a Locati on You can ins tall the p rojec tor for v arious v iewing s etups, as sho wn below.
14 Setting Up the Projector Ideally, place the pr ojector at a heig ht where its lens is between the top and bottom of the screen. That w ay, you can keep the proje ctor level and use the ve rtical lens s hift dial to positio n the image. This p roduces th e best-lo oking pict ure.
Setting Up the Projector 15 The maximum size of the image is determined by the distance from the projec tor’s lens t o the screen. Depending on your display setting s and how you use the Zoom ring, the actual siz e may be smaller.
16 Setting Up the Projector Also kee p these c onsider ations i n mind: ■ Make sure t here is ple nty of spac e fo r vent il ation around and under the projector. Do not set the proje ctor on top of loose mater ials that could blo ck the vent s underneath.
Setting Up the Projector 17 The followi ng illus trati ons show the di mensio ns of th e proje ctor: To install, you will need the option al project or mount designe d for the pro jector.
18 Setting Up the Projector In addition to the tools supplied with the p rojector m ount, you will need a Phillips head screwd river and a d rill to us e on the wall o r ceili ng. If you install the projector on the ceiling, you will need to invert the pic ture so that it appears right side up.

T his le ts a ce nt ral control system moni tor wh ether the pro jector i s on or off, and can be us ed to raise or lower your projection scree n automaticall y when the p rojector is in us e.
22 Setting Up the Projector Turning the Projector On and Off Turning O n the P rojector 1. Remove the lens cap . 2. Turn on any connec ted equipm ent you plan to use. 3. Tur n on th e main p ower s wit ch on the bac k of the p roj ector . 4. Press the On button on the remote c ontrol or the P Power button on the pro jector.

Press the Off button on the remote control, or press the P Power button on the projecto r twice. 3. When the P Power light stops f las hing orange and sta ys on , tur n off t he pr oject or’s ma in power sw itch on th e back.
24 Setting Up the Projector If you press the Sourc e button on the pr ojector, you see a menu of availabl e sources. Press the u or d button to go up or down the menu, the n press the Select button. Note: If an image does n ot appear, see “Prob lem So lving” on page 55.
Setting Up the Projector 25 Positi oning t he I mage If the image is not ce ntered on the s creen, use the horizontal and vertical lens shift dials to adjust its po sition . Caution: Do n ot try to move the l ens b y hand, o r you may damage the proj ector.
26 Setting Up the Projector The image display positi on canno t be move d to the maximum distance in bo th the vertical and horizontal directions. For example, the image cannot be shif ted vertically when it has been shifted horizontally by th e full amount.

28 Maki ng Basic Adjustm ents Choosing the Aspect Ratio In many cases, v ideo s ignals are automatica lly resi zed to fit on your screen wh en Auto is selected as the Aspect setting. You may need to change the size of the image (or as pect ratio) f or certai n image type s by pres sing the Aspect button on the remote contr ol.
Making Basic Adjus tments 29 Choosing the Col or Mode You can change the Co lor Mode to automatic ally adjust brightness , contrast, and color, letting you quickly op timize the pr ojected i mag e for various lighting environments.

Making Basic Adjus tments 31 Adjusting the G amma Setting You can s elect f rom five gamma sett ings (2.0 to 2.4) o r cust omize you r own se tting fr om your image or a displayed g raph. Lower values will incr ease the contrast of dark areas, but tend to blur the bright areas .
32 Maki ng Basic Adjustm ents Locking the Projector The projector includes two lock settings to pr event the im age from being accidentally changed once it’s adjusted, and to keep childre n from turning on the pro jector without ad ult supe rvis ion.
Making Detailed Adjus tments 33 Making Detail ed Adjustments You can use the p rojector’s on-screen menus to make detailed adjustments to the image qualit y—such as the br ightness, contras t, shar pn ess, and c olor. You can also change the menu displ ay, sleep mod e settings, and other p rojector features .

36 Making De tailed Adju stments ■ Brightness Adjust the br ightne ss so it’s su itabl e for yo ur view ing c onditi ons. Fo r exa mple, if you’re projecting in a brightly li t room or onto an especially large screen, you may need to incre ase th e bright ness .
Making Detailed Adjus tments 37 ■ Brightness Co ntrol This setting controls the li ght output from the proj ector. On high , the lamp uses 170 W of power. On low, the lamp uses 135 W. Sharpness and Picture Quality Settings If the i mage looks fuzzy, o r if it contains noi se or f lickering , you can use t hese sett ings to corr ect it.
38 Making De tailed Adju stments ■ Motion Detection This se tting spe cifie s how signal s are converte d to prog ress ive si gnals. Se lect a low er setti ng for slo w-moving or sti ll images ( S ) or select a higher number for vi deo images ( M ).

Maintenanc e 47 Maintenance Your projec tor needs li ttle maintenance . All you need to do on a regular bas is is keep the lens clean. You also need to cle an the air fi lter peri odicall y to preven t overhe ating. Warning: Before you clea n any pa rt of the projec tor, turn it off and unp lug the power cord .
48 Mai nten anc e Cleaning th e Projector Case Before you cl ean the case, turn off the pro jector and unplug the power cord. ■ To remove dirt or dust, wipe the case with a so ft, dry, l int-free c loth. ■ To remove stubb orn dirt or stains, moisten a soft cl oth with water and a neutral detergent.

To replace the cover, ins ert the tabs and pre ss down unti l the cover c licks into plac e. Replaci ng the La mp The proj ection lamp las ts for up to 3000 hours .
