The Lie bert GXT3 is designed to supply microcomput ers and other sensitive equipment with clean sine wave input po wer.
Product De scription 5 1.3 Appearance and Component s 1.3.1 Front Panel and Controls The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ rack/tower and minitower models in various power ratings have the same general appearance, controls and features ( see Figure 1 ). Product De scription 8 1.4 Major Component s The operating princi ple of the UPS is illustrated in Figure 6 . Figure 6 Operating principle dia gram The UPS is compo sed of utility input, TVSS and EMI/RFI fi lters, rectifier/PFC, inverter, battery charger, DC-to-DC converter, batte ry, dynamic bypass and UPS output.
Product De scription 9 Battery Charger The battery charger utilizes energy from the utilit y power and precisely regulates it to continuously float charge the batteries. The batteries are being cha rged wheneve r the Liebert ® GXT3 ™ is plugged in, even when the UPS is not turned On.
Product De scription 10 1.5.3 Battery Mode The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ enters Battery Mode wh en utility powe r fails or is outside acceptabl e values. The battery system supplies power th rough the DC-to-DC converte r to the inverter to generate clean AC power for the connected loads.
Installation 11 2.0 I NST ALLATION 2.1 Unp acking and Inspection Unpack the UPS and conduct the following checks: • Inspect the UPS f or shipping damage. If any shipping dama ge is found, report it to the carrier and your local dealer or your Emer son representative immediately.
Installation 12 2.4 Mechanical Inst allation The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ may be installed as a tower or in a rack, depending on space and use considerations. The Liebert GXT3 ma y be used alone, as a single UPS, or with up to four battery cabinets. 2.4.1 T ower Installation To install the Liebe rt GXT3 as a tower: 1.

Installation 14 2.4.2 Rack Inst allation To install a Liebert GXT3 rack/tower UPS in a rack: 1. Unpack the two slide rails assemblies and mo unting hardware from the rack-mounting kit (P/N: RMKIT18-3 2). Slide rail as sembly includes inn er member and front and rear members.
Installation 15 5. Ex tend the slide rail assembly by sliding the front member forward until it touches the rack’s front vertical rails (ad justable length: 18 to 32 inches [4 57-813mm]). Use two M5 screws to fix each front member onto the front vertical rails through the instal lation holes.

Installation 17 2.5 Cable Connection The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ rear panel has an input cable an d plug, output receptacles and output cable(s) (Output cables are on GXT3-3 000 models onl y). Refer to 1.3.2 - Rear Panel Features for details. The battery cables are suppli ed with the battery cabinet.

Controls and Indica tors 19 3.0 C ONTROLS AND I NDICATORS The operation and displ ay panel, shown in Figure 18 , is on the front panel of the Liebert ® GX T3 ™ (see Figures 1 and 2 ).
Controls and Indica tors 20 3.2 Indicators The operation and display panel has seven indicators (see Figure 18 ). The indi cators can be divide d into two groups according to the applications: level i ndicators and UPS status indicators.
Controls and Indica tors 21 3.2.2 UPS St atus Indicators UPS status is indicated by five symbols: fault indicator, AC input indica tor, battery indicator, inverter indicator and bypass indicator.
Operation 22 4.0 O PERATION This section describes checks to be made before starting the UPS, how to start the UPS, manual battery test, manual bypass, shutting down the UP S and disconnecting the utility power from the UPS. 4.1 St artup Checklist for the Liebert GXT3 Before starting the UPS, perform these checks: ___ 1.
Operation 23 4.5 Shut Down the Liebert ® GXT3 ™ 1. Transfer the UPS to manual bypass by pressing the Standby/Manual Bypass button and holding it for about 2 seconds. If manual bypass is not avai lable, disregard the first step. 2. Press the Standby/Manual By pass bu tton twice within four second s to shut down the UPS.

Communication 25 5.2 USB Port Communication The standard B-type USB port is used to connect the UPS and network server or other compute r system using Lieb ert ® MultiLink ® . Configuration prog ram ca n be accessed through the communication port. 5.
Communication 26 5.3 T erminal Block Communication The Terminal Block includes eight pins, as shown in Figure 21 . Figure 21 T erminal block communication pin layout 5.3.1 Any-Mode Shut down The purpose of Any Mode Shutdown i s to shut do wn the UPS output by tu rning Off the rectifier, inverter and bypa ss so that there is no p ower to the load s.
Communication 27 5.3.2 Battery Mode Shut down Battery Mode Shutdown permits shuttin g down the U PS by turning Off the rectifier, inverter and bypass so that there is no power to the load when the UPS is On Battery.
Maintenance 28 6.0 M AINTENANCE This section describes replaci ng the internal bat te ry pack, precaution s, checking the Li ebert ® GXT3’s status and checking U PS functions. 6.1 Replacing the Internal Battery Pack The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ is designed to allow the use r to replace the interna l battery pa ck safely.

Maintenance 30 6.2 Battery Charging The batteries are valve-regulated, nonspillabl e, lead acid and should be kept charged to attain their design life. The Liebert ® GXT3 ™ charges the batteries continuously wh en it is connected to the utility input power.
Trou bleshooting 31 7.0 T ROUBLESHOOTING This section indicate s various UP S symptoms a user may encounter and troubleshooting steps in the event the UPS develops a problem. Use the follow ing information to determ ine whether external factors caused the problem and how to remedy the sit uation.
Trou bleshooting 32 7.1.2 Audible Alarm An audible alarm will be used in conjunction with the visual indicators to indicate to the user a change in UPS operating status. The audible alarm wil l enunciate as given in Table 9 . 7.2 T roubleshooting In the event of an issue with the UPS, refer to Table 1 0 to determine the caus e and solution.
Trou bleshooting 33 When reporting a UPS issue to Em erson, include the UPS model and serial number. These are on the top panel of the Liebert ® GXT3 ™ . Fault and Bypass indi cators and diagnostic B indicator are illuminated UPS internal DC bus overvoltage UPS requires service.
Battery Cabinet 34 8.0 B ATTERY C ABINET Optional battery ca binets are available for the Liebert ® GXT3 ™ . The battery connectors and input breaker are on the battery cabinet’s rear pan el, as shown in Figure 26 . For battery cabinet specifications, ref er to Table 13 .
