1 I MPORT ANT S AFETY I NSTRUCTIONS SA VE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This manual co ntains important instructio ns that should be followed du ring installation of y our Liebert NX™ UPS and batteries. Read this manual thorou ghly, paying specia l attention to the sections that appl y to your installation, before working with the UPS.
2 Battery Cabinet Precautions The following warning appl ies to all battery cabine ts supplied with UPS systems. Addit ional warn- ings and cautions appli cable to battery cabinets may be found in 3.0 - Battery Installation . ! CAUTION This equipmen t is fitted wi th RFI suppression filters.

Installation 4 1.0 I NST ALLATION The Liebert NX™ UPS is designed primarily for te lecommunications and data proce ssing applica- tions. Liebert Corporation neither recommends nor kno wingly sells this product for use with life sup- port and other designated “critical” devices.
Installation 5 1.2.1 Storing for Del ayed Inst allation If the equipment will not be instal led immediately, it must be stored indoors where the humid ity is no higher than 90% and the temperat ure is no higher than 104°F (40°C). The storage area must protect the NX from excessive moisture (see 6.
Installation 6 1.4.3 Special Consid erations for 1+N Systems 1. Consider the grounding configuration of your sy stem before finalizing module placement.
Installation 7 1.6.1 Clearances There are no ventilation grilles on the sides or rear of the UPS. The sides must be accessible during installation. After install ation, the unit may be placed with the rear against a wall and optional cabi- nets on either side.
Installation 8 1.6.4 Optional Cabinet s If your NX in stallation includes a Maintenance B y pass Cabinet, the NX must be positioned to allow the Maintenance Bypass Ca binet to be bolted to left side of the NX (see Figure 1 ). Cables from the Maintenance Bypass Cabi net must be brou ght thro ugh the bottom side of the NX for connection.
Electrical Connections 9 2.0 E LECTRICAL C ONNECTIONS The UPS requires both power and co ntrol cabling once it has been mecha nically installed. All control cables must run separate from power cables in metal conduits or metal ducts that are electrically bonded to the metalwork of the cabi nets to which they are connected.
Electrical Connections 10 2.1.2 UPS Input Configuration Figure 2 illustrates the NX in a split bypass (dual -input) configuration. In this configu ration the Static Bypass and the Maintenance Bypass lines are suppli ed from a separate feed from the Main input.
Electrical Connections 11 2.1.4 Cable Connection s The rectifier input, bypass and output are easily ac cessible from the left side of the unit for installa- tion. All require lug type terminations. They are connected to b usbars on the left si de of the NX and below the switch, as shown in Figure 3 .
Electrical Connections 12 2.1.5 Safety Ground The safety ground busbar is located below the neutral input and output busbars as shown in Figure 5 below. The safety ground cable must be connect ed to the ground busbar and bonded to each cabinet in the system.
Electrical Connections 13 2.1.7 Cabling Procedure Once the equipment has been posi tioned and secured for operation, and the battery and ground col- lars have been connected (see 2.1.4 - Cable Connections ), connect the power cables as described below.
Electrical Connections 14 Internal UPS Battery Connections The UPS internal batteries will be connected at t he factory, EXCEPT the Anderson connections between the shelves and to the fuses. Observe the battery cable polarity. Be sure that the battery conn ector is made with the cor- rect polarity.

Electrical Connections 18 Firmware M200 or Later The UPS has an Emergency Power Off (EPO) function op erated by a button on the control panel or by a remote contact provided by the user. The EPO button is under a hinged, cl ear plastic shield. The X2 slot, shown in Figure 11 , is the remote EPO input interf ace.
Battery Installation 19 3.0 B ATTERY I NST ALLATION 3.1 Introduction Liebert recommends that the batteries in external cabinets match the internal b atteries in the NX in manufacturer an d type.
Battery Installation 20 3.4 External Battery Cabinet Inst allation 3.4.1 Matching Battery Cabinet s Two sizes of optional battery ca binets a re available. Refer to Figures 13 and 14 . The same mode l bat- tery cabinet may b e installed in paralle l in multip le cabinet strings for add itional capacity.

Battery Installation 22 3.4.3 Inst allation Considerations Position —Liebert battery cabi nets come in versions specific to ei ther the left or right side of the UPS. Control wires and power cables are cut to diffe ren t lengths for the d iffer ent versions.

Battery Installation 24 3.4.4 Connecting the Battery Cabinet t o the UPS After the battery cabinet equipmen t has been positioned and secure d fo r operation and the batteries have been connected, connect the power cables as described below. (See Figure 34 .
Maintenance B ypass Cabinet 25 4.0 M AINTENANCE B YP ASS C ABINET The Maintenance Bypass Cabinet is designed to op erate in UPS mode, bypass mode and maintenance mode. Maintenance B ypass Cabinet 28 7. Connect the system input cables between the Maintenance Bypass Cabine t 'UPS Input' Busbars (A-B-C N terminals) and UPS inp ut busbars (A-B-C N terminals) and tighten the connect ions to 44 lb-in. (5 N-m) (M6 bolt).
Maintenance B ypass Cabinet 29 4.7 Bolting Cabinet s T ogether 1. Line up cabinets so that mounting holes are aligned. 2. Using supplied hardware, bolt the cabinets toge ther. The bolts may be in serted from either the UPS side or from the MBS side, whichever is mo re convenient.
Options 30 5.0 O PTIONS 5.1 Load Bus Synchronization The Load Bus Synchronizer (LBS) keeps the output of two independent UPS systems or para llel UPS systems in synchronization even when the systems are operating in different modes and even when either or both systems are operat ing on batteries.
Options 31 5.2 Configuring Parallel System Operation 5.2.1 General The NX uses intelligent and reliable decentral ized te chnology to achieve parallel operatio n of two or more modules of the same rating. The 1+N system is used to: • Increase the reli ability of the system to ensure adequate power supply to the critical load con- nected.
Appendix 32 5.2.3 Operating Principles Redundancy Paralleling The 1+N parallel redundant system can noticeably improve system reliability. In normal condition, none of the UPS modules work at full load. That me ans that even if the load is increased, the system will not transfer to bypass.
Appendix 33 5.3.5 Power Cables Wiring of power cables is simila r to that of single module system (See 2.1 - Power Cabling ). The bypass sources of all modul es should be the same, an d the outputs should be connected altogether cor- rectly. Power cables will be supp lied by customer.

Options 35 5.3.7 Emergency Power Off (EPO) The external emergency stop facil ity is identical to that described for the single unit installation— that an individual emergency stop button is provided for each unit.
