7 Installation Installation Location The appliance should be set up in a well ventilated, dry room. Energy use and efficient performance of the appliance is affected by the ambient temperatur e.
8 Installation Y our fr eezer needs air For correct oper ation this appliance must be located in a dry atmos- phere, away fr om heat sour ces, e.g. cookers, r adiator s, boilers and direct sunlight. Y ou should also ensur e that air can circulate fr eely ar ound the back and the top of the cabinet.
9 Installation A EG97 K 1 A EG98 A 12 Reversing the door The side at which the door opens can be changed from the right side (as supplied) to the left side, if the installation site requir es. Warning! When changing the side at which the door opens, the appli- ance must not be connected to the mains.
10 Installation Electrical Connection Any electrical work requir ed to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. WARNING – THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The manufacturer declines any liability s hould these s afety mea- sures not be observed.

12 The freezer has stops to pr event the dr awers fr om falling out when fully extended. To r emove the dr awers (e.g. for cleaning purposes), pull them out as far as the stops, lift and extract. Prior to Initial Start–Up Please clean the appliance interior and all accessories prior to initial start-up (see section: “Cleaning and Care”).
13 Control panel ACTUAL temperatur e (one light illuminated) to the display of the DESIRED temperatur e (one light flashing) by pr essing one of the two buttons, „+“ or „-“ . • With each further pr ess of one of the two buttons, the DESIRED temperatur e is adjusted by one display field.
14 Control panel W arning system The warning system comprises of an optical warning light (red) and an acoustic warning tone. The r ed warning light and the warning tone signal an alarm if the temperatur e in the freezer compartment is too warm.
15 Starting up and temper atur e r egulation ☞ 1. Insert the plug into the plug socket. 2. Press ON/OFF button. The green mains pilot indicator illuminates. A warning tone sounds and the flashing red warning light indicates that the r equir ed storage tem- peratur e has not yet been r eached.
Fr eezing and storing fr ozen food Y ou can use your fr eezer for freezing fr esh food your self. Important! • The temper atur e in the freezer compartment must be –18°C or cold- er before fr eezing food. • Please observe the fr eezing capacity given on the r ating plate.
17 Freezing and storing fr ozen food days in a row , please observe a maximum capacity of only 2/3 to 3/4 of that on the rating plate. The quality of the food is best pr eserved when it is frozen right thr ough to the cor e as quickly as possible.
18 4. Once the requir ed stor age temperate has been r eached, pr ess the FROSTMATIC button again. The yellow light goes out. Tips: • The following ar e suited for the packaging of fr ozen goods: – freezer bags and polyethylene wr aps; – special cans for frozen goods; – extra–thick aluminium foil.
19 Defr osting The fr eezer defrosts automatically Y our appliance has been designed to be fr ost free. This means ther e is no need to manually defrost your appliance as this will be carried out automatically . The water from the thawing fr ost evapor ates by itself.
20 ☞ 1. Remove frozen food and wr ap it in sever al layers of newspaper . Stor e it in a cool place, well covered. 2. Switch the appliance off and remove the plug fr om the mains, or switch off or turn out the circuit br eaker or fuse. 3. Clean the appliance and the interior accessories with a cloth and luke- warm water .
21 • Put fr ozen food in the fridge to defr ost. The cold in the frozen food will then be used to cool the fridge. • Always keep the heat emitting condenser , the metal grille on the rear wall of your appliance clean.
What to do if ... 22 Symptoms P ossible Cau se Remedy The freezer temper ature is not sufficient, red light illuminates, temperatur e alarm signal sounds. Temper ature is not pr oper- ly adjusted. A large quantity of warm food placed in the appli- ance within the last 24 hours.
23 Noises during Oper ation The following noises are char acteristic of r efrigeration appliances: • Clicks Whenever the compressor switches on or off, a click can be hear d. • Humming As soon as the compressor is in oper ation, you can hear it humming.
24 T echnical terminology • Refrigerant Liquids that can be used to a generate a cooling effect ar e known as refriger ants. They have a r elatively low boiling-point, indeed so low , that the warmth from the food stor ed in the fridge or fr eezer can cause the refriger ant to boil and vaporise.
