- 5 - Introduction W elcome to NPC-1, a compact palm-sized control device that allows you to control and maintain projectors and other audiovisual equipment over a TCP/IP based Ethernet connection.

- 8 - Getting Star ted Now that you hav e been introduced to NPC-1’s f eatures and specifications, it is time to set up the hardware, install the software, and get your system up and running.
- 9 - Connecting the NPC-1 to a network There are two wa ys to use the 10/100BaseT Ether net jack located on NPC-1’ s front panel: 1. F or most applications using NPC-1, you will simply plug one end of an Ether net cab le (RJ45) into NPC-1’ s 100BaseT jack, and plug the other end into a hub connected to your network.
- 10 - Changing Network Proper ties Selecting a NPC-1 device Click on the menu T ools|Network Properties to get a list of all NPC-1 de vices on your network. If this list is empty click the Search button to perf or m an actual search. Pick an IP address in the NPC-1 list to change the network proper ties.
- 11 - Changing the projector location Change the projector location to the location where the projector is installed. E.g. “Meeting Room 3” or “Building 1, Level 2, Room 17”. Click the Change button to sa ve the new location. Y ou can close the window by clicking on the Close T o ol button.
- 12 - Changing the subnet mask The NPC-1 device is shipped with the f ollowing default subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Change the subnet mask of the NPC-1. If you are unsure about changing the subnet mask please ask your system administrator . Click the Change button to sav e the new subnet mask.
- 13 - DHCP setting This topic is applicable if you are using a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) ser ver in y our networ k. This type of ser ver is set up to provide IP addresses f or new de vices as they log onto a networ k.
- 14 - Searching the network Search the Network Click on the menu Search|Search Network to do a network search for NPC-1 devices. Y ou can perfor m the same network search if you click the Network T ool button under the Projector T ools categor y .
- 15 - Connecting to a Projector Choosing a valid IP address Bef ore you can wor k with your projector on the network you hav e to type a valid IP address into Active IP Address field in the main application windo w . W e recommend that you use the search function to pick an e xisting NPC-1 device.
- 16 - Connecting to a projector Bef ore you can wor k with your projectors on the netw ork you have to pick a valid IP address and a projector model from the Projector Model list in the main application window . Click the Connect button to establish the actual connection between the NetControl software and a projector .
- 17 - Reading the Status of a Projector Am I connected? T o get a status reply from your projector you hav e to be connected to a projector. If you r are not connected to a projector the Get Status button in the Projector Status window is deactivated.

- 19 - Controlling the Projector Using control features of the projector T o control a projector the NetControl software has to be connected to a projector .
- 20 - Wh y are some buttons deactivated? Buttons are nor mally deactivated when the NetControl software is not connected to a projector . Y ou have to connect to a projector bef ore using the Control window . Another reason for the a deactivated b utton could be that the function of the button is not suppor ted on the selected projector model.
- 21 - Ca ble Pinouts RS232 RS232 standards are defined by EIA/TIA (Electronic Industries Alliance /T elecommunica- tions Industr y Association). RS232 defines both the physical and electrical character istics of the interfa ce. RS232 is practically identical to ITU V .

An important point after buying a device Eiki NPC-1 (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
If you have not bought Eiki NPC-1 yet, this is a good time to familiarize yourself with the basic data on the product. First of all view first pages of the manual, you can find above. You should find there the most important technical data Eiki NPC-1 - thus you can check whether the hardware meets your expectations. When delving into next pages of the user manual, Eiki NPC-1 you will learn all the available features of the product, as well as information on its operation. The information that you get Eiki NPC-1 will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
If you already are a holder of Eiki NPC-1, but have not read the manual yet, you should do it for the reasons described above. You will learn then if you properly used the available features, and whether you have not made any mistakes, which can shorten the lifetime Eiki NPC-1.
However, one of the most important roles played by the user manual is to help in solving problems with Eiki NPC-1.
