1 Before you start u sing thi s product , please che ck if there is anything miss ing in the package, and c ontact your deal er to claim the missi ng item(s): LED Color LED Status Description Signal Strength 2.4 GHz Amber On Excellent signal . Signal strength : 6 0 – 100%.
2 LED Color LED Status Description Signal Strength 5 GHz Amber On Excellent signal . Signal strength : 6 0 – 100%. Slow Flashing Good signal. Signal strength : 60 – 40 %. Quick Flashing Poor signal. Signal strength : below 40 %. Off No signal detected or in LED off mode.
3 There are two ways you can quickly setup the Wi-Fi ex tender - using browser-based iQ Setup ( steps 1 - 15 below) or using the WPS but ton (see WPS Setup ). Note: It is recommended that you plug in the extender close to your router/access point for the setup process.
4 i. Plug one end of th e Ethernet cabl e into the Wi-Fi exten der ’ s Ethernet port. Plug the other end of the cabl e into your computer ’ s Ethernet port. i. Use your Wi-Fi dev ice (e.g. computer, ta blet, smartphone) to search for a Wi- Fi network with the SSID “Edimax.
5 4. iQ Setup will displ ay all avail able 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi -Fi networks, li sted under “SSID” . Pl ease select one or both root Wi -Fi netw orks that your extender will connect to and subseq uently extend . If you don’t wish to u se either the 2.
6 6. For each network you sele ct, you can enter a “De vice SSID” which is a na me to identify the EW -7238RPD ’s Wi -Fi network. If th e root SSID requires a security key, you wil l also be required to enter it here. Note: If you do not know your existing network security key, please refer to the user manual for help.
7 “Cancel” – or select “No” from the drop down menu shown below , before you click “Next”. 8. Please wait while t he Wi-Fi extende r tests the conn ection.
8 Note: When assigning a static IP address to the wireless extender, you need to ensure that you assign an IP address in the same subnet as your network. For example, if your static IP is 192.168.9.2 then you need to assign the wireless extender an IP address in the range 192.
9 Note: After the system has restarted, if you do not see the congratulations screen in Step 11, then please skip straight to step 12. Ty pically, this may occur for smart phone users who setup the extender via a wireless c onnection (as shown in II-1.
10 13. To connect to the ext ende r’s Wi -Fi n etworks: 14. Select the SSID wh ich you named yo ur ex tende r’s Wi -Fi networ k in Step 5 or 6 and en ter your password/security key if yo u set one. Note: Remember to select the SSID of your extender’s Wi -Fi network – not your existing root Wi-Fi network.
11 Windows: Mac: Note: The next section WPS Setup describes an alternative setup method to iQ Setup. If you already completed iQ Setup, it is not necessary to perform WPS Setup.
12 Note: Please ensure the extender is ready (power LED ( ) on, not flashing) before activating WPS. If your wireless rout er/access point supports WPS (Wi -Fi Protected Setup) then you can use t his method to set up your Wi -Fi extender ’s 2.4GHz & 5GHz network.
13 Note: Please check the instructions for your wireless router/access point to confirm how long you need to hold down its WPS button to activate WPS for 2.4GHz or 5G Hz . Some brands of router/access point may not support WPS for 5Ghz – in this case, please use iQ Setup instead.
14 If you experience probl ems with your Wi- Fi extender you can r eset the extender back to f actory default settings. Thi s resets all setti ngs back to default. To reset the extende r, press and hol d the WPS/Reset b utton for 10 seconds until the power LED ( ) is flash ing.

16 If the extender’s 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi -Fi is disconnected from its root network, your browser will forwar d to the page shown below: The status of th e extender will be displayed, please check your WAN connection and en sure that your rout er/access point is working prop erly.
