4 Enjoy your A TRAC Portable CD Player! Thank you for purchasing the XP-SN70. This portab le CD player is called an “ A TRAC Portable CD Player , ” because you can enjoy “ A TRAC CDs” on it. Create original A TRAC CDs! Y ou can make your o wn A TRAC CD.
5 What is an A TRAC CD? An A TRA C CD is a CD-R/R W on which audio data compressed in the A TRAC3plus/A TRA C3 format has been recorded. About 30 audio CDs* can be recorded on a CD-R/R W . Y ou can also record MP3 files by con verting the files to the A TRAC3plus/A TRA C3 format.
6 Music sources playable on this CD player Y ou can play the follo wing three music sources on this CD player: • Audio CDs •A TRA C3plus/A TRAC3 format f iles • MP3 files Usable disc formats Y ou can use ISO 9660 Lev el 1/2 and Joliet extension format discs only .
7 MP3 files MP3, which stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer3, a standard for audio files compression supported by the Motion Picture Experts Group, an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) wo rking group, enables compression of audio files to about 1/10 of the data size of a standard compact disc.
8 Differ ence between A TRAC3plus/A TRAC3 and MP3 Groups and folders The A TRA C3plus/A TRAC3 format has a very simple structure. It consists of “f iles” and “groups. ” A “file” is equi valent to a “track” of an audio CD. A “group” is a b undle of files and is equi valent to an “album.

10 3 Insert two LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries by matching 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment and close the battery compartment lid until it clicks into place. 1 .P r epar e your CD player . Playing an audio CD or A TRAC3plus/A TRAC3/MP3 files Y ou can also use house current (A C power adaptor) as a pow er source (see page 23).

12 Basic operations To Do this Play (from the point you stopped) Press u . Playback starts from the point you stopped. Play (from the first trac k) While the CD player is stopped, press and hold u until the play of the fir st track starts. P ause/resume play after pause Press u .
13 About the display While the CD player is playing, the follo wing indications appear in the display . Y ou can also check the remaining time, track name, etc.

16 Playback options Y ou can enjoy v arious playback options using PLA Y MODE/ (repeat), . / > and u . PLA Y MODE/ button • If you press the button repeatedly during playback, you can change the play mode. . / > buttons Press > or . . Y ou can select a play list you want.
17 Playing tracks in random or der (Shuffle play) During playbac k, press PLA Y MODE/ repeatedly until “SHUF (shuffle)” appears. When playing A TRA C3plus/A TRA C3/MP3 files In shuffle mode, the CD player plays all f iles on a CD in random order .
18 Playing your favorite tracks by adding Bookmarks (Bookmark track pla y) Y ou can add Bookmarks to up to 99 tracks for each CD. Y ou can use this function for up to 10 CDs. While playing A TRA C3plus/A TRA C3 files Y ou can add Bookmarks to up to 999 tracks for each CD (up to 5 CDs).
19 Playing your favorite play lists (m3u play list pla y) (MP3 CD only) Y ou can play your fa vorite m3u play lists.* * An “m3u play list” is a file for which an MP3 f ile playing order has been encoded. T o use the play list function, record MP3 files on a CD-R/R W using encoding software that supports the m3u format.
20 B Available featur es The E•A•S•S GP function The E•A•S•S GP function has been developed to provide excellent protection against sound skipping during many active uses. When you set the E•A•S•S GP switch inside the CD player to “2, ” the E•A•S•S GP function will be enhanced compared to “1.
21 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “DSL ” o r “DSL .” r r “DSL ” enhances the bass sound more than “DSL .” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the volume.
22 Protecting your hearing (EAR GU ARD) The EAR GU ARD function keeps down the maximum volume to protect your hearing. Press and hold SOUND until “EAR G. ON” appears in the display . To turn off the EAR GU ARD function Press and hold SOUND until “EAR G.

24 Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used for a long time. On AC power adaptor • Use only the supplied A C power adaptor . If your CD player is not supplied with the one, use the optional A C-E45HG A C power adaptor .
25 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (external power input) jack.
26 Do not immerse in water This product is not meant to be immersed in wa ter or come in continuous contact with wa ter . • Before turning the OPEN/LOCK knob to open the lid, be sure to wipe off w ater, dust or sand on the exterior of the CD player .
27 Tr oubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Aiwa dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press the VOLUME + button r epeatedly . No sound, or noise is heard. Certain files cannot be played.
28 Symptom Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. During playback of an A TRAC CD or MP3 CD, the CD does not rotate but you can hear the sound normally . “NO FILE” appears in the display after u is pressed or the lid of the CD player is closed.
