3 About Y our New Labelmaker With your new DYMO M101 1 labelmaker , you can create a wide variety of plas tic and metal l abels. The labelmaker uses DYMO 12 mm (1/2") label tape.
4 Loading the Label T ape The DYMO M101 1 is set to emboss non-adhesive aluminium or plastic tape. T o load the tape roll 1. Hold the labelmaker in your left hand. 2. Open ta pe door (A). 3. Insert roll of tape allowing th e end to extend abou t 5 cm (2") through the tape slot.
5 Cutting the T ape T o cut the tape 1. Squeeze the emb ossing handle half-way , several times until the tape extends from th e front of the cutting assembly (M) by at least 1 cm (1"). Before cutting the tape, make sure the end of the tape extends beyond the edge of the cutting assembly so you can easily pull the label out.
6 Embossing th e Label Avoid turnin g the embossing wheel at the same time you are squeezing the embossing handle. This can damage the character blades. T o emboss a label 1. T urn the character selection wheel (G) until the desired letter is centered in the window (H).
7 Embossing on Stainless Ste el T ape Y ou may need to adjust the labe lmaker to emboss properly when using stainle ss steel tape. T o adjust for stainle ss steel tape 1. T urn the adjustment scre w (J) clockwise 1/2 to 3/4 turn. 2. Emboss the te xt as described in “Embossing the Label” on page 6.
8 Retracting the T ape Y ou may want to retract the tape, for exa mple, if the tape advanced too far or to center the tex t on the label. T o retract the tape 1.
9 Removing the T ape T o remove the tape 1. Retract the t ape as described in “Retracting t he T ape” on page 8. 2. Open the tape cassette door (A) and remove the tape. Use caution when removing stainless steel tape t hat may have sharp edges. 3. Reload th e tape as described in “Loading the Lab el T ape” on page 4.
10 Centering the T ext on the Label The leader/trailer lengt h guide (N) has positioning marks for a short (S) or long label (L). Use the marks on the guide to center the text on your label. T o center the tex t on a long label 1. After cutting th e previous label, emboss the text on a new label.
11 Applying Self-Adhesive Labels Self-adhesive plasti c and aluminum labels stick permanent ly to any smooth, clean, and dry surface. T o apply se lf-adhesive labels 1. Peel off the protect ive backing taking care not to touch the adhesive. 2. Press the label in place.
12 Punching Holes in Non-Adhesive Labels Y ou can choose to punch one or two holes in non-a dhesive labels so that the labels can be attached using screws, nails, rivets, and metal or plastic wires or ties. Y ou can al so punch a cable tie slot in one or both ends of the label.
13 Changing the Wheel Y ou can replace the character wheel with a Reverse Image Wheel. T o change the wheel 1. Remove the label tape. 2. Unscrew the screw in the center of the embossing wheel (G) and remove the wheel. 3. Position the new wheel. 4. Insert the screw in the center and tighten.
14 Hints for T rouble Free Operation Keep the follo wing in mind when using th e labelmaker: • Letters appear where you want spaces - Y ou are probably squeezing the embossi ng handle too hard. • Letters overlap - The tape is slipp ing. This can happen when dirt or grease gets on the rollers.
