3 About Y our New Labelmaker With yo ur new DY MO M101 1 labelmaker , you can c reate a wide variety of plas tic an d meta l l abels. The labelmaker uses DYMO 12 mm (1/2" ) label tape. DYMO plasti c tapes are availab le in a wide variety of colors.
4 Loading the Labe l T ape The DYMO M101 1 is set to emboss non-adhesive aluminium or plastic tape. T o load the t ape r oll 1. Hold the labelmaker in your left hand. 2. O pen t ape do or (A ). 3. Inse rt roll of tape allowing th e end to exte nd about 5 cm (2 ") through the t ape slot.
5 Cutting the T ape T o cut th e tape 1. Squeeze the emb ossin g handle half-way , several times un til the tape ext ends from th e front of the cutting assemb ly (M) by at least 1 cm (1" ). Before cutting the ta pe, make sure the end of the tape exten ds beyond the edge of the cutting assembly so you can easily pull the label ou t.
6 Embos sing th e Labe l A void turn ing the embossing wheel at the same t ime you are squeez ing the emboss ing h andle. This can da mage the character blades. T o emboss a label 1. T urn the character se lect ion wheel (G) until the desired lett er is centered in the window (H).
7 Emboss ing on Stainless Ste el T a pe Y ou may n eed t o adjust t he labelma ker to emboss properly when usin g stainle ss steel ta pe. T o adjust fo r stainless steel tape 1. T urn the adjus tment scre w (J) clock wise 1/2 t o 3/4 t urn. 2. Emboss the te xt a s describe d in “Embossi ng th e Label” on page 6.
8 Retracting the T ape Y ou may want to retract the tape, fo r exam ple, if the tape adv anced too fa r or to center the tex t on the la bel. T o retract the tape 1.
9 Removing th e T a pe T o remove the tape 1. Retract the t ape a s describe d in “Retrac ting the T ape” on page 8. 2. Open the tape cassett e door (A) and remove the tape. Use ca ution when removing stainless steel t ape that may have sha rp edges.
10 Centering t he T e xt on the Label The leader/tra iler lengt h guide (N) has position ing mark s for a short (S) or long label (L). Use th e marks on the guide to center th e text on your labe l. T o cente r the text on a lo ng label 1. After cu tting th e previous label , emboss the text on a new la bel.
11 Applying Self -Adhesive Labels Self-adhes ive plasti c and aluminum labels stick perman ently to any smooth , clean, and dry surface . T o apply self-adhe sive l abels 1. Peel of f the protect ive backing ta king care not to touch the adhes ive. 2.
12 Punching Holes in Non-Adh esive Labels Y ou can choos e to punch one or two holes in no n-adhes ive labels so that the la bels can be attached using screws, nails, rivets, and metal or plastic wires or ties. Y ou can al so punc h a cable tie slot in one or both ends of t he label.
13 Changing the Wheel Y ou can repla ce the character whee l with a Reverse Ima ge Wheel. T o change the wheel 1. Remove t he label tape. 2. Unscrew the screw in the center of the embossin g wheel (G) and remove the wheel. 3. Position the new wheel. 4.
14 Hints for T rouble Free Operation Keep t he follo wing in mind whe n using the labelmake r: • Lett ers appear where you want spaces - Y ou are probably squee zing the emboss ing handle too hard. • Letters ove rlap - The tape is slipp ing. This can happ en when dirt or grease gets on the rollers.
