32 What are Favorit e s Li st s? Chapter 5 W HAT ARE F AVORITES L ISTS ? Favorites Lists are custom lists of your favo rite chann els. You can create and change th e lists, adding and removing chan nels as you wish. Your favorite chann els can be grouped into up to four lists.

34 Tips Chapter 5 T IPS • Two lists cannot have the same name. • Pressing GUIDE to switch Favo rites Lists functions only if you h ave added channels to the Favorites List. 36 What are Locks? Chapter 6 W HAT ARE L OCKS ? Locks allow you to password-protect pr ogramming based on ratings, or on a ch annel-by- channel basis. When you have locked the receiver: • If you try to access a locked item or open the Locks men u, the rec eiver displays a message prompting you to ente r the password.

42 Tips Chapter 6 T IPS • If the receiver displays a message pro mpting you to enter a passwo rd, the receiver is locked. • When you lock a rating, you also lock all other more restrictive ratings. For example, if you lock PG-13 rated programs, then all programs with the R, NC-17, and NR/AO ra t- ings are also locked .

46 What is DVR? Chapter 8 W HAT IS DVR? The Digital Video Recorder (DVR) featu res let you watch TV the way you want. You can pause, reverse, or skip back thro ugh a pr ogram. Then you can continue watching TV. Also, you can record and play back programs w ith full digital audio and video quality, without a VCR.

52 Timers and Recordings Chapter 9 T IMERS AND R ECORDINGS A timer is your instruction tellin g the satellite receiver the programs you w ant to view in the future. For most Digital Video Re corder (DVR) timers, you select a specific program o n a specific channel, and tell the sa tellite receiver how often you wa nt to rec ord that program.
Record Future Programs 53 Using the Timers List • You can override a specific timer's prior ity by skippin g or restoring a specific program. Select a timer in the Daily Schedule , then you'll have a n optio n to Skip or Rest ore for that timer (see page 54).
54 Using the Daily Schedule Chapter 9 U SING THE D AILY S CHEDULE The Daily Schedule lists the timers that are pl anned for toda y, up to nine days in the future, and those that occurred in the re cent past. U se the Da ily Schedule to : • Review today's timers.
Record Future Programs 55 Using the Daily Schedule Reasons Why Timers are Skipped If a timer is skipped, th e reason is stated on the Timers List. • Priority —this timer had a lowe r priority than other events being reco rded at the time. • User —a user chose to sk ip that timer.
56 Creating an A utomatic Time r Chapter 9 Special Considerations When Using Timers • For Locked Pr ograms —you must enter the recei ver password before you ca n create an automatic timer. You can cre ate a manual timer for a locked progr am with out entering the password.

Record Future Programs 59 Deleting a Timer – Select Exact Match with the Title or Info . – Choose Dish PASS when you select a future program within the Program Guid e, Browse Banner or Search. This will enter the pr ogram's exact title. 8 Select Done .

Changing the Remote Control Address Because UHF signals travel long distances and go through walls, a ne ighbor’s remote may control your rece iver by mistake.
Remote Control Setup 63 Improving Receiver Control 1 Press and hold the SAT mode button for three seconds, until all of th e mode buttons light up, and then let go of the SAT button. 2 Press POUND (#) twice. The SAT mode button will flash the same number of times as the address number (for exa mple, three flashes means addre s s 3).

82 Using Dolby® Digital Surround Sound Chapter 11 U SING D OLBY ® D IGITAL S URROUND S OUND Dolby Digital gives you the cap ability to enjoy programs in surround s ound. An external Dolby Digital decoder is required to enjoy t his feature. Refer to you r decoder us er’s guide.

When you use th is setting, in com parison to RF Mode, the dy namic range is wider, which makes the music and loud noi ses louder, but voices quieter.
