4 1. Introduction The 802.11g USB 2.0 Adapter (here aft er cal led USB adapter), compliant with IEEE 802.11b/g, is a high-efficie ncy wireless adapter for wireless networ king at home, in office, or in public places.
5 2. Installation Procedures 2.1 Install Utility Software Note: Before instal ling the utility so ftware, DO NOT insert the USB adapter into your computer. If the adapter is ins ert e d already, Windows will detect the adapter and request for a driver.

8 2.2 Install Driver Note: In mos t cases, Windows will automatica lly install the driver after the computer is restarted. If the Found New Hardwar e W iza rd appe a rs, follow the instructions b e low. The Found New Hardware Wizard will look differen t depending on your operating system.
9 For Windows 2000, click Yes at the Di gital S i g nature scree n. For Windows 98SE or ME, insert the Windows 98SE or ME CD if pro m pted to do so and click OK .
10 3. Configuring USB Ad apter as a Wireless Client The USB adapte r can be set to either Stat ion or Access Point Mo de from the Mode drop-down menu. St a tio n mode is the d efault sele ction and should be selected if you want to connect to a wireless ro u t e r/acce ss point or conduct peer -to -p eer n etworking.
11 Step 1 Sele ct the SSID of your wireless router/acce ss point from the Avai lable Network list and click on the Con nect this site button. Step 2 Verify that the adapter has adequate Signal Strength and Link Quality and then restart the computer. Mode : Select from Sta tio n or Acce ss Point .
12 Curr ent Netwo r k Infor mation : Displays the network information of the wireless router/access point that the USB adapter is currently connected to. More Setting : Click on this button to access the USB adapter ’ s configuration settings, including WEP and WP A encryption settings.
13 3.1 Conf iguring General Sett ings Click Cha nge to configure the adapter ’s General Connection Setting . Chann el : This setting is for Acc ess Point Mode only . Tx Rate : Select the desired transmission rat e, or leave the default setting of Auto to allow the adap ter t o automatica lly select the optimum rate.
14 3.2 Configu r ing Encry ption Security Click WE P Enc r ypti on Ke y Se tti ng to configure t h e WEP settings. Click Cha nge to configure the WEP Key Se tting and then click Ap ply to save the settings. Note: The W E P Key set t ings mus t be ident ica l to the WEP settings of the w ireless router/access point you wish to connect to.
15 Key V alu e : Enter the applicable key values. Up to four key values may be entered. Note the following rule s when entering Key values: ‧ 64-bit key length requires 10 Hexadecima l char acters (0-9, A-F) or 5 ASCII characters (any number or letter).
16 1. S elect TKIP for Enc r yption , WP A PSK for Au thentication Mode, a n d click Apply . 2. Click on WP A Encryption Setting and click Chan ge . 3. Enter the appropriate p assphrase in the Passphrase field under the Pre-shared Key section and c lick Apply .
17 3.3 Co nfiguring Pr ofile After you have configured all the settings, you can save your setting s as a profile so you don’t have to re-configure them the next time. T ype in a name for the profile in the Profi l e name field and click Save Current .
18 3.4 Advanced Settings Click on Advanced Setting from th e More Setting window to configure the adapter ’s advanced settin g s. User Inter face : select the language for the adapt e r’s user interface. Power Consumption Setting : • Continuous Access Mode : provides the best signal throughput but least power save.

20 4. Configuring USB Ad apter as an Access Point 4.1 Configuring Access Point You can configure the USB Adapter as an access point for other wireless client s on your ne twork. Note: You will not be able to access the Internet if you configure the USB a dapter as an access point.
21 Click on Change to configure the settings. Chann el : select the channel you want to use. Basic Ra te : se lect the applic able transfer rate. Tx Rate : select from Auto to 54 M bps. SSID : enter the desired SSID for the access point. Hide S SID (check bo x) : che ck to disable the broadcast of SSID.
22 4.2 Configu r ing Encry ption Security Select Enable from the WEP drop-down menu and click Setting . Key Length : Select the appropriate encryption key length. Defaul t Key ID : Select which of the f o ur Key V alue you wa nt to use. Key Format : Select ei ther Hexadecima l (0-9, A- F) or ASCII (any numbe r or letter).
23 4.3 Configuring MAC Ad dress Filter Filter Type : Disable : disables MAC address filter. Accept : only accepts connection from the MAC address listed. (Conn ectio n attempts from MAC address not in the list wil l be rejected). Reject : only rejects connection from the MAC address listed.
