Introduction 7 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + 2I n t r o d u c t i o n dLAN is an intelligent, secure technology that lets you set up a home network easily, quickly and economical- ly via your household electrical wiring, without the need for complex and expe nsive dedicated cabling.
8 Introduction devolo dLAN 650+ 2.1 What exactly is dLAN? dLAN ( d irect L ocal A rea N etwork) uses the household power grid to transfer data between computers equip- ped with suitable adapters and other network compo- nents. As a result, any power outlet can be used as a network access point.

Installation 11 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + 3 Installation This chapter covers everything you need to know to set up your dLAN 650+. It will explain connecting the dLAN 650+ and its functions.
12 Installation devolo dLAN 650+ Please note that your computer or other de- vice must feature a network adapter with a network port. To set up a dLAN ne twork, you need two dLAN devices ( 200 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 600 Mbps).
Installation 13 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + dLAN 쎲 The LED lights up in white if there is a dLAN connection. 쎲 The LED lights up in red if the data transmission rate of the dLAN 650+ is not optimal. For information to improve th e data transmission rate, please see the chapter 5.
14 Installation devolo dLAN 650+ 햳 Plug the dLAN 650+ into a free electrical outlet. Additional network devices that are connec- ted via a multiple socket are connected to the mains power supply by plugging the multiple socket into the integrated electrical socket of the dLAN 650+.
dLAN network 1 5 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + 4d L A N n e t w o r k 4.1 Security in the dLAN Before you can use the dLAN 650+ in your dLAN net- work, first you have to connect it to other dLAN devices as a home network.
16 dLAN network devolo dLAN 650+ The following section contains exact instructions on the basis of possible network scenarios: Encrypting a new dLAN network consisting of two adapters Once both adapters have been successfully connected, press each encryption button for 1 second within two minutes of one another.
dLAN network 1 7 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + Expanding an existing dLAN network with a new dLAN 650+ If you have already secured your existing dLAN net- work using the encryption button, use the same meth- od to integrate other adapters.
18 dLAN network devolo dLAN 650+ Excluding a dLAN 650+ from your netw ork To exclude a dLAN 650+ adapter from an existing net- work, press its encryption button for at least ten se- conds . The device will be assigned a new randomly generated password and will thus no longer be able to access the network.
dLAN network 1 9 d e v o l o d L A N 6 5 0 + 4.3 dLAN Cockpit devolo dLAN Cockpit is a monitoring and encryption program that detects all reachable dLAN devices in your home network and com bines them in a secure network. Due to its logical graphic design, the dLAN Cockpit is easy and intuitive to operate.
20 dLAN network devolo dLAN 650+ After starting the dLAN Cockpit, all reachable dLAN devices in your home network will appear. This may take a moment. All adapters found in the network appear with as ad- apter icon with a corresponding product name.
