1 1 I NTRODUCTION The Switch c an be ma naged through the Switch’s serial port, Telnet, or the Web-based management agent. The Comm and Line Interface (CLI) can be used to confi gure and ma nage the Switc h via the seri al port or Te lnet interface s.
2 Figure 1-2. Boot Screen The Swit ch’s MAC address can also be found in the Web ma nagement program on t he Switch Inform ation (Basic Settings) window on the Configuration menu. The IP address for the switch must be set before it can be mana ged with the Web-based manage r.
3 In the above exam ple, the Switch was assi gned an IP address of 10.53.13.144/8 wit h a subnet ma sk of 255.0.0.0. The system message Success indicates that the comm and was executed successfully.
4 2 U SING THE C ONSOLE CLI The DES-3550 supports a console m anagement interface that allows t he user to connect to the switch’s ma nagement age nt via a serial port and a t erminal or a computer runni ng a termi nal emula tion program. The console can also be used over the network using the TCP/ IP Telnet protocol.
5 Comm ands are entere d at the com mand prom pt, DES-3550:4# . There are a number of hel pful features included in the CLI. Entering the ? c omm and will display a list of all of the top-le vel comm ands.

8 3 C OMMA ND S YNT AX The following symbols are used to describe how command ent ries are made and val ues and arguments are spec ified in this manual. The online help cont ained in the CLI and available through the console interface uses the same synt ax.
9 {braces} Description In the above syntax exa mple, you have th e option to s pecify config or detail . It is not n ecess ary to spec ify either opt ional valu e, however the effect of t he system reset is de pendent on wh ich, if any, v alue is specified.
