Preface About this User's Guide What you will learn from this user's guide This user's guide explai ns how to install, co nfigure, an d use the UMDAS 0802DA , a nd also refers you to rel ated document s available on our web si te, and t o technical su pport reso urces.
Chapter 1 Introducing the UMDAS 0802DA This user's guide con tains all of the information you need to connect the UMDAS 0802DA to your computer and to the signals you want to measure. The UMDAS 0802DA is par t of the CyberResearch ™ brand of USB- based data acquisit ion product s.

Connecting a UMDAS 0802DA to your computer is easy Installing a data acquisition device has never been easier. ! The UMDAS 0802DA relies upon th e Microsoft Human Inte rface Device (HID) class drive rs. The HID class drivers ship with ev ery copy of Windows that is d esigned to work with USB ports.
Chapter 2 Installing the UMDAS 0802DA What comes with your UMDAS 0802DA shipment? As you unpack y our UMDAS 0802DA , verify t hat the follo wing com ponents are included .
U MDAS 0802DA User's Guide I nstalling the UMDAS 0802DA Unpacking the UMDAS 0802DA As with any el ectronic de vice, yo u should ta ke care whil e handlin g to avoi d damage fr om static electricity.
The last popup bal loon or di alog states "You r new hardwa re is instal led and ready t o use," and t he LED on the U MDAS 0802DA should flash and th en remain lit. This in dicates that communication is estab lished between the U MDAS 0802DA and your computer.
Chapter 3 Functional Details Theory of operation - anal og input acquisition modes The UMDAS 0802DA can acqui re analog i nput data i n two diffe rent modes – software paced and co ntinuous scan . Software paced mode In software paced mode, you can acquire one analog sample at a tim e.
UMDAS 0802DA User's Guid e F unctional Details USB connector The USB connector is on the right sid e of the UMDAS 0802DA . This connector prov ides +5 V power and communicat ion. The vol tage supplie d through t he USB connect or is system -dependent , and m ay be less than 5 V.
Screw terminal – pins 21-40 The screw terminals on the bottom edge of the (pins 21 to 40) provide the follo wing connections: ! 16 digital I/O connections ( Port A0 to Port A7 , and Port B0 to Port .
Pi n 3 AGND Pin 1 CH0 Figure 3-3. Single-end ed measurement connection The following example shows th e single-ended measurem ent data acquired by TracerDAQ.
In differential mode, the following two requirements must be met for linear operation: ! Any analog input m ust remain in the − 10V to +20V range with respect to ground at all times. ! The maximum differential voltage on an y given analog input pair must remain within the selected voltage range.
Since the analog inputs are restricted to a − 10 V to +20 V signal swing with respect to ground, all ranges except ±20V can realize a linear output for any differenti al signal wi th zero com mon mode voltage a nd full scal e signal inputs. The ±20 V range is the exception.

UMDAS 0802DA channel gain queue feature The UMDAS 0802DA 's channel gain queue f eature allows you to set up a scan sequence with a unique per-c hannel gain setting a nd channel se quence. The channel ga in queue feat ure removes t he restrict ion of usi ng an ascendi ng channel se quence at a fixed gain.
