Checking Tire Pressure Maximum tire pressure underany circumstances is 30 psi. Equaltire pressure should be maintained at all times. The reartires on your unit may be over-inflated for shipping purposes. Reduce the tire pressurebefore operating the mower.

GEAR SHIFT LEVER Use this lever to select any of four forwardgroundspeeds, neutral,or reverse. Forward Four forwardspeedsare available. Position one (1) is the slowest and positionfour (4) is the fastest. Reverse To select reverse, put the lever in the Reverse (R) position.
STARTING THE ENGINE Referto the Serviceand Maintenance section of this manual for Gasoline and Oil fill-up instructions. 1. Disengage all controls on the mower. 2. Movethe gear shift lever into the neutral (N) position. 3. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
USING THE DECK HEIGHT LEVER To raise or lower the cutting deck, move the deck height lever to the left, then place it in the notch best suitedfor your application. MOWING The followinginformation will be helpful when operating your mower. Planyour mowing patternto avoid discharge of materials toward roads,sidewalks, bystanders.
MAINTENANCE Before performing any maintenance or repairs, disengage blades, stopengineand remove key to preventunintended starting. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS • Always observesafetyrules when performing any type of maintenance on the mower. 7. After the oil has finisheddraining, press the two tabs inward and push the oil drain valve backin to lock the valveclosed. Remove the hose,and re-cap the end of the oil drain valveto keep debris from entering the drain port. 8. Refillthe enginewith new motoroil until the oil level on the dipstickreads FULL.

Pivot Points & Linkage Lubricate all the pivotpointson the drive system and lift linkage at least once a season with light oil. Rear Wheels The rearwheelsshould be removed from the axles once a season. Lubricate the axles and rim hubs well with an all-purpose grease before reinstalling them.
3. If the arrowson the surface of each spindle pulley are not perpendicular (at a 90° angle) to each other,see your Sears or other qualified service dealerto have the timingbelt reset. Do not operate the machinewithout the deck's timingbelt properly set.

CUTTING BLADES Shut the engineoff and remove ignition key before removing the cutting blade(s) for sharpening or replacement. Protect your hands using heavygloveswhen grasping the blade. Periodically inspect the bladeand/or spindle for cracksor damage, especially after you've strucka foreign object.
TRAIL SHIELD Jump Starting Never operate the mower without the trail shield in place and working. Failure to do so can result in personal injury. To replace the trail shield,proceed as follows: 1. Remove the screw which secures the trail shield to the right side of the mower.
CHANGING THE DECK ENGAGEMENT BELT Shut the engineoff and remove ignition key before removing the cutting blade(s) for sharpening or replacement. Protect your hands using heavygloveswhen grasping blades and pulleys. The V-belts found on your mower are specially designed to engage and disengage safely.
