5 Internet Access Symptom Problem Solution Internet Ser vice Provider (ISP) account is not set up properly . V erify Internet settings, or co ntact your ISP for assistance.
6 Power Symptom Problem Solution PC is not securely connected to an external power source. Ensure that cables connecting the PC to the external power source are plugged in properly .
7 There are several metho ds to fix your PC, including using the System Recovery program. Try these methods in the order listed here, or refer to the table that follows the list. • Restart When you restart the computer , the PC starts over using the operating system and software in its memor y .
8 Creating Recover y CDs/DVDs 1 Yo u c a n recover (bring b ack) the operating system and programs that were included on your hard drive just as they were when you bought the computer . NOTE: A hard disk drive is a disk inside the computer that stor es the operating system, programs, and data.
9 T o use this program, your PC must have a CD-RW drive, DVD W riter drive, or other d rive that can write to the CDs or DVDs. If necessary , purchase a Windows XP-compatible drive from your local PC or electronics store. The number of CDs/DV Ds in the recover y set depends on your PC model.
10 Application Recover y NOTE: Not all PC models include the Appl ication Recover y program. Per form steps 3 through 5 of the following procedure. If Com paq Application Recovery appears in the folder , your PC includes the program.
11 Star ting System Recovery If the PC Is Not Responding 1 T urn off the PC. If necessar y , press and hold the On button until the PC turns off. 2 Disconnect all peripher al devices from the PC except the monitor , the keyboard, and the mouse. 3 Press the On button to turn on the PC.
