2Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) Obtaining T ec hnical Assistance This document contains instructions for replacing the slide-type connector locks that are standard on Cisco 7000 EIP ports with jackscre ws so that you can connect cables with thumbscre ws to the ports.
Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) 3 F igure 1 Ethernet Connector Locks, Slide-T ype and Jackscrew-T ype The EIP is the 2, 4, or 6-port high-speed Ethernet interface processor for the Cisco 7000 router .
4Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) ■ T ransmit—Lights when frames are being transmitted. When frames are transmitted, the Recei ve LED also lights up because v alid traf fic is being sent on the network. ■ Recei ve—Lights when frames are being recei v ed.

Because the holes in the EIP are threaded, you need only two lock washers and tw o jackscre ws for each port. Discard the extra flat w ashers and hex nuts included in the kit.
6Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) Note: For safety , periodically check the resistance value of the antistatic strap. The measurement should be within the range of 1 and 10 Mohms.

8Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all addition ports that require jackscre ws. Step 5: Place the remov ed brackets and slotted scre ws aside; you can discard them after the jackscre ws are installed, and the installation is complete.
Jackscrew Installation Instructions (for EIP Ports) 9 Chec king the Installation T o check the interfaces, you will connect network interface cables to the EIP ports, reenable any interf aces you shut do wn, if any , then check the LEDs and console displays to verify the status of the interf aces.
