I NTRODUCTION The Obey™ 40 is a univ ersal intelligent lighting cont roller. It allows the control of 12 fix tures composed of 16 channels each an d up to 240 programmable scen es. Six chase banks can contain up to 240 steps composed of the saved scen es and in any order.

Common Terms The following are common term s used in intelligent light programming. Blackout is a state where all lighting fixtures’ light output are set to 0 or off, usuall y on a temporary basis. DMX-512 is an industry standard digital communicati on protocol used in entertainment lighting equipment.
O PERATING I NSTRUCTIONS Setup SETTING UP THE SYSTEM 1) Place the Obey™ 40 on a level surface. Note! The Obey™ 40 can also be rack moun ted, occupying three rack spaces (3U). 2) Plug the AC to DC power supply into the system back panel and into the mains outlet.
PHYSICAL FADER ASSIGNME NT (OPTIONAL SETUP) Use this feature to combine or unify fixture control a ttributes for different fixt ures. For example; if you were controlling 4 moving mirrors and 4 moving yokes, the color, gobo and dimmer channels may not line up ideally on the physical faders.
REVERSE CHANNEL OUTPUT (OPTIONAL SETU P) Action 1) Press and hold PROGRAM & TAPSYNC buttons together (2) times to access the channel assignment mode then select the FIXTURE button. 2) Move the SPEED fader until you arrive at the controller channel you wish to alter.
Programming A program (bank) is a sequence of different scenes (or steps) that will be called up one after another. In the Obey™ 40 30 programs can be created of 8 scenes in each. ENTERING PROGRAM MODE Press the PROGRAM button for 3 seconds until an LED dot next to the label PROG blinks.
SCENE COPY Action 1) Press the PROGRAM button for 3 seconds. 2) Locate the scene in the program BANK . Use BA NK U P/D OWN to navigate program banks. 3) Select the SCENE in the program BAN K to copy. 4) Locate the destination scene in the program BA NK .
Chase Programmi ng A chase is created by using previously creat ed scenes. Scenes become steps in a chase and can be arranged in any order you choos e. It is highly re commended that prior to program ming chases for the first time; you delete all chases from memory.
ADDING A STEP TO A CHASE Action 1) Press and hold the PROGRAM button for 3 seconds to enter programming mode. 2) Press the desired CHASE (1~6) button.
DELETE ALL CHASE PROGRAMS CA UTI ON! This procedure will result in irrevocabl e loss of chase step memory. The individual scenes and program banks will be preserved. Action 1) Press and hold the BANK DOWN button and the AU T O D E L button while turning OFF the controller.
Playback (Chases) MANUAL RUN CHASES This function allows the user to manually step through each individual step in a chase. Action 1) Press and hold PROGRAM button for 3 seconds to enter programming mode. 2) Start a chase by pressing any one of the CHASE buttons.

A PPENDIX DMX Primer There are 512 channels in a DMX-512 connection. Channels may be assigned in any manner. A fixture capable of receiving DMX 512 will require one or a number of sequential channels. The user must assign a starting address on the fixture that indicates the first channel reserved in the controller.
