Periodic Cleaning 8-2 Maintenance 8 Cleaning the Scanning Area Wipe the scanning area (shaded area) with a clean, soft, lint -free cloth moiste ned with water , then wipe with a clean, soft , dr y , lint-free clot h. Cleaning the ADF Area Black lines ma y appear in copies when the ADF is used to f eed documents .

IMPOR T ANT If printout becomes faint or inconsis tent, th e reason ma y be that the lifetime of the toner car tridge has been reached e ven when a message does not appear .

Replacing the Cartridges 8-7 Maintenance 8 6 Make sure that the toner cartridge you want to replace is at the position f or replacing. If the spent toner car tridge is not in the r eplacement position, close the cover , then open it again when the whirr ing sound stops .
Replacing the Cartridges 8-8 Maintenance 8 8 Confirm the color of the label on the toner cartridge holder , then take out a toner cartridge of the same color fr om the pr otective bag. Open the protective bag with scissors, so as not to damage the cartridge.
Replacing the Cartridges 8-9 Maintenance 8 9 Hold the toner cartridge as shown in the figure, shake it gently 5 or 6 times fr om side to side a , th en back a nd f orth b to evenly distribute the toner inside. IMPOR T ANT • If toner is not distributed e venly , it may result in a deterioration of the print quality .
Replacing the Cartridges 8-10 Maintenance 8 IMPOR T ANT • Do not touch or hold the de v elopment roller . The image quality ma y deteriorate if you do so . Do not apply shoc k to the toner car tridge me mor y or bring it near magnetic wa v es as this may result in damage to the machine.
