GB - 11 Steering Lever s (988105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 113) The steering lev ers are used to steer , operate in f orward and re verse, and stop the unit.The steering le v ers can be set to limit unit ’ s fastest f orw ard speed. See Speed Range Adjustment.
GB - 12 P arking Brake The parking brake holds the tr actor in position when not in use. T o engage parking brake , pull the brak e handle back (1). T o release parking brake , push the brak e handle f orward (2). Recoil Starter Handle Pull the recoil star ter handle to star t the engine .
GB - 13 STARTING AND SHUT OFF Before Eac h Use Check each item in Each Use in the Maintenance Schedule. NO TE: The engine will not star t unless the speed control le v ers are in neutral, the parking brak e is On and the P ower T ake Off (PT O) is Off.
GB - 14 T O OPERATE UNIT Operate the unit only in the operator ’ s position directly behind the handlebars. 988105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 113 T o operate: 1. Star t the engine (See Star ting and Shut Off on page 13). 2. Mov e the throttle le v er to the F ast position.
GB - 15 2. Mov e the speed control le v ers to the neutr al position. 3. T urn off PTO s witch. 988116, 117, 120, 314 T o operate: 1. Star t the engine (See Star ting and Shut Off on page 13). 2. Mov e the throttle le v er to the F ast position. 3. Engage operator presence control.
GB - 16 Floating Decks (988107, 108, 109, 116, 117) 1. Shut off the unit. See Shut Off on page 13 and "T o stop mowing." 2. Lift deck b y handle until hair pins can be remo v ed from height adjustment rods. 3. Set deck to desired cutting height (Figure 7).
GB - 17 T O PUSH UNIT BY HAND T o mov e the unit without the engine running: 1. Rotate the bypass v alve le v ers located on the back side of the pumps appro ximately 1/2 tur n counterclockwise . 2. Release parking brake . 3. Push unit to desired location.
GB - 18 988116, 117, 120, 314 T o test: 1. With engine off , set controls as listed in line A of the table belo w . 2. T r y starting the engine. See Star ting and Shut Off on page 13. IMPORT ANT : If the system does not function properly , do not operate the unit until repairs are made .
GB - 19 T o clean terminals: 1. Remov e battery cover . 2. Remov e battery cables from terminals. 3. Clean or ser vice battery awa y from unit. Remo v e corrosion from batter y terminals and cable connections with wire brush, then wash with a weak baking soda solution.
GB - 20 Hydraulic Run-In Procedure 1. Jac k the drive wheels off the fl oor . 2. Star t unit. Run engine at slowest speed f or 1-2 minutes to b leed h ydraulic pumps . 3. Increase engine speed to half . Set speed control 1/3 f orward. Run engine f or 3-5 minutes to b leed h ydraulic motors .
GB - 21 Check Re ver se T rac king (988116, 117, 120, 314) 1. Adjust f orward tr acking (See Check F orward T rac king on page 20). 2. Slowly pull both control le vers all the wa y back. 3. Note which direction, if any , the unit pulls. 4. Stop unit and engine.
GB - 22 4. Star t engine. 5. Run engine at full throttle. 6. Disengage parking brake . Check f or creep. 7. Release steering control lev ers . Check f or creep. If unit creeps when parking brake and steering lever s are released: Adjust steering r od c levis.
GB - 23 SPEED RANGE ADJUSTMENT (988105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 113) The steering lev ers control tra v el speed. The unit can be adjusted from a slow er to a f aster speed range . NO TE: Setting the unit to the f aster speed r ange will make the steering controls more sensitiv e.
GB - 24 REMOVE SINGLE LE VER PLATE (988105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 113) Without the single le v er plate, the speed control le vers can work separately to adjust trac king on une v en terrain. T o remov e: 1. Remov e knobs from speed control le v ers . 2.
