2. To move the tel escope in right ascension (east/west) t here are two options. For large and quick m ovements, loosen the right ascension knob when m oving the telescope and t hen tighten the knob when you are near the position you want. For very small m ovements and fi ne adjustments, t urn the right ascension cable.

Latitude Scales The easiest way to polar align a telescope is with a latitude scale. Unlike other methods that require you to find the celesti al pole by identifying certain stars near it, this method works off of a known constant to determine how high the polar axis should be pointed (see figure 10).
